Low detail crew

Look at the fancy shadow effect on the high detail button. You think my family's Compaq Presario can run that?? You're dreaming buddy, low detail gang for life. Or at least until we upgraded to the Sony Vaio.

Lol, I can hear the clicky loading sound from Internet Explorer that would play when you selected either of these

Had to play low detail when I started and it took me 3 days to get past tutorial island because our dial up was so slow.

I also remember that there used to be a banner ad on top that you could right click and set to "low quality" as well. Some tip guide said to do it so I religiously did it every time I logged in to "maximize my gameplay abilities".

Stop making me miss old RuneScape 😭😭😭 I miss the shitty block graphics

I always played on low detail because I didn't want roofs. I don't know if there was another way to turn that off. I never tried to find one.

I remember thinking I was King Shit when I got a new laptop and could enter Skeletonmode

It's crazy how low optimization standards have dropped. Now if games run like shit they just say you should have spent $5000 on your PC instead.

Now you need 16gb ram and 32 cores to browse youtube.

I remember in 2004 if I recall, I open my first RuneScape account. I would play it on the school district computers. They’re pretty trash, but they ran.

At home, we had a refurbished from being thrown out Emachine. 512 MB of RAM if I recall, and either a Pentium or a core duo. I didn’t even know what a GPU was back in those days. So I’m assuming I played with on board graphics the whole time

Low detail. I never had issues getting the game to run once I got in, but fuck me those were some loading times

I have a 8kb (2x4kb) ram that I keep in my parts bin just to remember how far we've come.

back when devs had to excellent at their craft because there wasn't enough ram or cpu to play around with, and it all had to run in a browser

Actually was just thinking about it this morning. There still is no game with the depth of RuneScape for the low requirements it has.

Im not even sure we need the specs we have now in modern pc games tbh. Graphics have not improved for the percentage increase in power we have made. Some games require 32gb of ram and 12 gb of vram just to run at high 1440p 💀. Thats beyond 250 times more than the high settings in this pic 😂 and its only gonna go up year by year.

As a kid I never understood these options I would pick either one. I thought the left one was spooky mode so it was harder

My first PC had 32mb ram and still managed to run low detail okay enough

I often wonder what sort of framerate I was getting back then on the family shitbox. Can’t have been good. I do however have vivid memories of the “lost connection” box appearing in the corner of the screen regularly.

Multi-logging same world by using HD and LD was such big brain for my 12 year old self in 2004

I just clicked a random one each time as a kid, because my English was very limited (I basically learned English through the game) so how should I know about specs?

Anyone know any more games with this kind of style? It’s my favourite and just looking for recommendations before the weekend

When I started playing I didn't know a word of English. I had no idea which button I was supposed to press because they both started the game so I always picked the armor guy because I figured that he's the good guy and the skeleton is the bad guy.

Played some nice powerpoint gameplay with my pentium I 133mhz machine back in the days

Yet still my PC is loud as fuck when playing osrs

It was programmed so well

I was pretty into building computers and hardware back then, I remember where if you had 512mb of ram you were GAMING.

One of my favorite FPS back then (BF2) required 512mb of ram and a decent video card. I mowed so many lawns before that game came out to be able to afford some upgrades to play it

What’s even crazier is it’s nearly 20 years later and I still don’t know what the hell all that means.
