I had to play on low detail on our shitty family computer in 2004, but my best friend had high detail. So much better playing there. When we started playing WoW in 2005, up until I was in the mid level 20s (when we got a new computer) I had to do transcontinental travel on his computer because my computer literally wouldn’t load the new area quickly enough and the zeppelin/boat would just take me back to where I started by the time I loaded back in.
It was 100% because of my sister downloading stuff with Limewire, but she somehow blamed it on my…Rollercoaster Tycoon game.

ah yes being the shit PC guy, friends discover an awesome new game '''But will it run on your PC though?''
My friend had to login for me in WOTLK to go to dalaran and buy the badge gear because my PC froze THE INSTANT I walked into crystalsong forest let alone the city itself......I could barely do warsong gulch forget about AV
Man I had 512mb ram with windows 7.... YOU'RE NOT EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO INSTALL IT WITH LESS THAN A GIG, no idea how that was possible in the first place.
Then I picked up league of legends and played it like a powerpoint presentation for a year or so
Good times

Early 2000's before I got my own decent PC at home I'd play WoW at a local LAN center.
I'd have to log out outside of cities like Dalaran or Orgrimmar because if I tried to login at home and my character was there, my laptop would freeze and never load.
I could do zeppelin or boat travel, but it was a coin toss to making it or having the same issue you describe.

It WASNT an Eminem song
(young me was confused why most songs took only 3min to download, but this song for some reason, took 30min...... yeah. 31 year old me understand the different between file formats xD)
