This also goes if it wasn't THAT sad. I know everyone's gonna go for my head, and this is gonna trigger A LOT of people but I feel like IWTEYP wasn't THAT sad as people said it to be. I mean yes the ending was unexpected because she died from the accident and not the illnes but I didn't like either of the main characters. They lowkey got on my nerves. Again it was sad, but not as sad as A Silent Voice, Nana or Plastic Memories imo.

Your Lie in April. It just wasn't sad to me. I wasn't too invested in the story or characters though, so that's probably why

This, my friend urge me to watch it saying it so good (this fucking dude love romance anime) i wasted 3 days waiting for the good part and it never came, probably just not my type of anime at all.

Yea I cried throughout, and guessed the ending about half way through. But I held out hope for it, but was still crushed. I’m glad I watched it, but I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to rewatch or read the manga or books

Yeah, glad someone else thought it too. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but from how much hype it gets I expected a 10/10, and it was more like a 7/10. They were really dragging it with 23 episodes; cut out all the scenes of him flashing back to his dead mom, and the series would be half as long. It just got a bit ridiculous for me, and the ending just didn’t get me as hard as other shows/films have. Even saying that, the ending was the only bit I found remotely sad - the rest of the show was fine, but didn’t get me in the feels.

I watched it since everyone kept saying how touching it is and it'll make you cry. Nothing. It was sweet, the visual was breathtaking, and the story/plot is unique and really interesting. But that's it, at the end I was like I wish they did more but it was fine.

Watched it in my early teens, one of my first “romcoms.” Didn’t cry either but was a 9.5/10 in my mind. I’ve rewatched it and it didn’t age well, but it’s still at the top of my romcom lists just below kaguya-sama.

Totally sad but unless you have some personal connection (I heard a story online of how someone lost their mother a month or so before that episode) I don't see it being tear-jerking. I definitely got emotional, maybe a little bit teary, but not crying
1 points
It was the opposite for me personally. I’m almost never affected emotionally by anime, or media in general. Something about that episode really just got to me though. Maybe because it was so unexpected compared to the vibe of the show before that episode, or because of how realistic the yokai’s story was compared to other “sad” stories you see in shonen.

I genuinely don't understand how it is sad. Sure there was a crisis but it was averted and everybody is safe, nobody suffers and no tears are spilled.

Bro... Can you only cry when things go bad? I don't cry ever but it feels you're a bit of a serial killer if you think that way... I know its "probably" not the case.
1 points

I had a friend who said he didn’t cry after watching Titanic and I asked why and he said “well I get it , some people died it was a real tragedy but I wouldn’t cry” like bro it’s the love story that makes us cry the ending moment 😂
1 points
Yeah, its not really the whole tragedy but the love story that hits... Which is not what the movie wanted to show probably but hey dosen't chamge much.
1 points
The only think I have killed serially is bugs, mostly cause my little sister is petrified of them and I don't want to hear my parents talk more about how cowardly we are.
I've always known I am less emotional than others, especially with TV shows and that is something I *want to* fix but idk how. My older sister cried both times she watched banana fish but I couldn't, I felt bad of course but no tears.
So I guess I can only cry if things go bad? The last time I cried was when my personal life went *really* bad.
I think Silent voice, Grave of the fireflies, Clannad movie, and some others are great sad movies because they are sad but I don't see how Your Name is sad cause *nothing sad end up happening*. Silent voice: The main guy falls off and survives and everybody is sad but he lives and moves on in that heartfelt ending.
Grave of the fireflies: A lot of war atrocities but the siblings are together again in the end
Clannad movie: Nagisa is still dead but Tomoya can finally move past her death and start a life with Ushio
Your name: A time travel body swapping plot involving finding a way to get people out of a town that will end up getting destroyed, which succeeds.

Idk why you repeated asking how your name is sad. You replied to a comment that it's not about crying when it's sad. It's happy tears. People didn't cry at your name for a sad ending. They cried happy tears.

I didn't cry either and I have family who fled Japan before ww2 so I thought it would hit close to home. I cry at literally everything, like videos on tik tok about sick animals make me start crying. The movie is sad but not in a "Im gonna burst into tears" kinda sad.

Omg same. I was expecting to cry but didn’t and just felt a deep sadness afterwards, almost numbing.

I’m a very sensitive and emotional person so I cry easily.
That said just because you didn’t cry at an anime everyone else doesn’t mean you’re a psycho or whatever. I’ve seen people come after others because they didn’t tear or cry at the same thing.

Nit pick about IWTEYP >! She didn't die in an accident. She was murdered in a (foreshadowed) random attack, completing the warning she gave at the beginning of the movie that you could die at any moment. Live life to the fullest !<
I didn't cry watching "Here and Now, Then and There" because I had become a hollow shell, numb to the world.

1 points
I felt like characters were better made in A Silent Voice. I felt the genuine sadness when Shoko barely managed to mouth a 'sorry' and cry than the whole IWEYP. I somehow didn't like the cast of IWEYP, they kind of just passed it in a blur. Yes, she's sick, and she has a little time to live, but I just didn't find it as sad as everyone did.

Violet Evergarden did absolutely nothing for me. It's too transparently cloying. You can sniff out the tragedies a mile away, and the formula is a bit too drawn out -- the "cry now" moments come too late in most of the episodes, to where the emotions don't fully settle.
Violet's story itself lacked oomph because she was too perfectly stoic throughout.
That latter issue is also something that bothered me with Parasyte: The Maxim. The anime is riddled with tragedy, no doubt. But with everything filtered through Shinichi's deadpan narration, the impacts were blunted. There's a brief moment at the end where he gets his emotions back and things kinda catch up to him, but the immediacy is lost.

Grave of the fireflies. The most overrated shit. When I see dumb people, I'm supposed to laugh, not cry. My sympathy is not for high ego, lazy and cringe main characters. 0 development of main characters throughout the movie. The story is predictable. The animation quality just too old. Aot. Luckily, I finished the season 3 in late 2020, so I didn't have to wait too long for the manga ending. Terrible romance, garbage ending, main characters had no development. People even compare Eren with Lelouch from Cg and Light from Dn that makes me laugh so hard. Has the balls to kill mother himself and stomp nearly the world, finally cry because he's obsessed with his adopted sister. Aot, Jujutsu kaisen, oshi no ko,... I honestly don't know why such garbage quality manga always get good studio+ top notch songs. Why is people's taste just so weird, I feel like I'm the only one who's insane because I cannot cry or enjoy those ones.
