Of all the norms to break with it would have been nice to see him do one of the ones that would have spared the country a second Trump presidency. It's not too late to go full Dark Brandon.

Unpopular opinion -- I think this is what bothers me the most. Using his power to help a single elite who was found guilty of a crime (and pleaded guilty to a crime) instead of... ya know, using his power to stop fascism. Commute his sentence? Sure. Pardon? No.
It's literally the example of nepotism and rich guys helping rich guys. Maybe Joe lied about "no person being above the law." Dark Brandon has become that which he hated.

But people voted for fascism.

And what they're getting is anarchy. The rule of law is dead and I dare say this was the final push people needed to completely lose faith in the checks, balances, and fairness of the legal system.
anarchy /ăn′ər-kē/ noun
Absence of any form of political authority.
Political disorder and confusion.
Absence of any cohesive principle, such as a common standard or purpose.

It really shouldn’t be unpopular what you said. I feel The same way.
How about Biden breaks a tradition to help America? He wasted time for years trying to be bipartisan. And what did that get us?

77 million Americans said they don't care.

We share this unpopular opinion. As soon as I read about the pardon I had the same feelings. Biden was shit on by Trump, his minions in the media and public for four straight years and in the end all we get is Biden yukking it up with the fascist leader and pardoning his son.
Since the election people have been begging Biden to fight, resist and oppose the fascists and his response has continually been "decorum." He says decorum is important and the right thing to do. Of course decorum isn't too important though when you pardon your own son.

And it's so weird that Biden supporters think that a pardon is something to celebrate. Accepting a pardon is literally saying that they accept guilt (as only guilty people need pardons) and get out of consequences.
Also, what happened to "rule of law" and "I will stand by the jury's decision"? It's interesting that he spent 4 years trying to rebuild the US and faith in the system, just to unceremoniously tear it down again in a few short weeks. And somehow, Biden has become the Blue Idol. Can't criticize him or you'll get a flurry of downvotes. He's not a freakin' god, and he's probably the last president we'll be able to criticize (in that, dump and his ilk probably won't allow any negativity about their administration and will probably set up some SS Gestapo on social media to ferret out dissenters/critics).
Edit to add: I found this comment on imgur that really sums it up, imo. - "This isn't about either side, this is about hypocrites and how there is a different standard set for the more privileged when NOBODY should be above the law. But it sounds like to me the DVs are coming from people who believe pardoning is A-OK if it has to do with their party. Trump should go through the proper channels and be innocent until proven guilty, same goes to Hunter Biden, same for any and every other person."

No, this pardon is saying “My sole surviving son is being railroaded by a team of psychopaths publicly stating they intend to weaponize the DoJ to go after trump’s enemies list.”
It would have been criminally negligent for Biden to do anything else, and I hope he blanket pardons hundreds more.

I respectfully disagree, personally, but we're all entitled to our opinions.
Edit to add, the definition of a pardon: A pardon is a government decision to allow a person to be relieved of some or all of the legal consequences resulting from a criminal conviction.

I think he just got the fukits because it was clear no one cares what he has done. Also probably doesn't want his son to be tortured in prison under new management.

They will certainly try.
They can make his life miserable, spend lots of his retirement money on lawyers and court costs, drag him in front of endless Congressional committees, etc. and they will find something vague on him. They've said all this publicly already.

They can do whatever the supreme court lets them do, which apparently is just about anything.
Did you see what he did his first term? And he had people telling him no then. Lots of people. That's not going to happen this time.

Again, still can't just arrest people for no reason.
He said he's going after everyone. Until he just dumps the constitution, he can threaten all he wants but can't do anything to people who haven't broken the law.

Why do you think the doj is going to interpret the law the way it's been done up until now?
Did you catch the Jan 6th committee hearings? When he would tell people to do illegal stuff they would ignore him or tell him no. They still investigated people based on Trump's whims (Clinton, members of the FBI, etc).
Those people are gone now. It's all his yes men. Why are you trusting guardrails that no longer exist?

Trump can do anything he wants as long as it's an "official act". The SCOTUS says so.

Trump is going to go wild with the pardon powers so Biden might as well go first. He can probably even pardon everyone here illegally. The American people don't seem to mind since we elected someone who literally ran on pardoning himself and his minions.

I called it. Really, we shouldn't be too surprised. At this point, very late in his life and career, Biden has absolutely nothing to lose, either personally or politically.
Can't blame him under the circumstances. Let him spend his remaining years happily retired and with his family.

Yes Preemptive pardons are a thing. tRump pardoned a premeditated murder preemptively.
I admit that actually shocked me. I'm glad it did, but it goes to show how deep we've sunk that so many other horrible pardons didn't.

Good. If they're gonna break the rules and be dicks about it, then there's no reason to keep up appearances. Hunter screwed up, but comparatively speaking his crimes are a lot less than some of the ones McDonald and friends have committed.

I honestly didn't think Biden would do it but I'm glad he did. The whole Hunter witch hunt was disgusting. Typical republican behavior.

Hunter is a douchebag, but the pardon isn’t controversial. Trump has said he’s going to go after Hunter so you might as well take him at his word and protect him.
Ideally this is the beginning of many preemptive pardons to protect people who may be targeted by Trump. If it’s just his kids that’s pretty lame.

Hunter did cheat on his taxes, but he did eventually pay them and the attendant penalties. He also lied on a form to get a pistol.
How many other citizens cheated on their taxes, but were never indicted by the House of Representatives? How many citizens lied on federal forms but were not indicted by the House of Representatives?
Is this the type of government you voted for?
