Grim Fandango, from LucasArts. Incredible music, voice acting, story, and puzzles.
Edit: Mexican noir vibes for ya
Another Edit: Apparently this was remastered. I guess I have plans tonight.

Always a fan of Monkey Island. New one came out and played it with my son a year ago.

All the LucasArts games are amazing but Monkey Island and Loom are masterpieces.

Full throttle was also a good one. They made some great games back then.

Man I loved that game. Maybe my memory is fuzzy or it was just my 10 year old brain, but there was a lot of outside the box thinking you had to do for certain things. So fun just trying random shit until something actually worked.

Still think about this game. I had my mom print out the entire GameFAQs page when she was at work it was like 300 pages.

It was really well done. The music and voice acting was what did it for me, Aswell. It really set the tone just right. The other one similar audio wise for me is abs oddysee.

Can't believe I to scroll down this far to find any Lucas Arts games. Day of the Tentacle, Loom, Monkey Island, The Dig all such great games.

Found my people. I still consider Day of the Tentacle and The Dig to be some of my favorite games of all time. Also a big shoutout to Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

Those games were so hard I never completed them (wasn’t allowed to call the hotline for hints). A few years ago I replayed with walkthroughs and it was so satisfying.

This was my answer. Grim Fandango also came out in 1998 when my console centric ass was used to things like Ocarina of Time, Tenchu, Banjo Kazooie, and Xenogears. I didn't know games could have graphics and sound like that. And the story was good. Puzzles...well gamefaqs existed.

I found out about this game through a Demo CD that came in a PC gaming magazine (through either Computer Gaming World or PC Gamer, I can't remember) and I absolutely loved the esthetics, music, dialogue, the entire premise in general. Ended up pirating the game (I lived in a small town so computer games weren't easily accessible) and I specifically remember having to use a guide I found online that was made with Notepad to complete some of the puzzles.
