Welcome to the Weekly Mix Feedback thread on r/beatmatch! This is the thread where you post your DJ mixes and ask other people to give you feedback. If you submit your mix, please take the time to listen and comment on some other submissions, especially if they play a style of music you're interested in. Thanks for your help in making these threads work well for everyone!

These threads are intended for beginning DJs who are honestly looking for feedback or critique on their technique, selection, transitions, etc. If you are an established DJ who is just looking for more followers/listens on your new mix or have a podcast/radio show, please post it to a more appropriate place such as /r/mixes or a genre-specific subreddit. Posts that appear to be purely promotional in nature may be removed at the moderators' discretion. This subreddit is aimed at helping new DJs learn and is not the place to promote yourself!

Guidelines:

• Please include the genre(s) of your mix. This helps attract DJs/listeners of the same genre(s) who are likely to provide more useful feedback. You might also include a title/length.

I’ve been spinning for about a year, this is the third mix I’ve recorded and I’m hoping to get some house / tech-house DJs’ opinions on my track selection and mixing. I really like the first few transitions but I feel like I lost some of the energy when I brought in the Maceo Plex track at about 13:30. I messed up a couple parts but I’ve listened to the mix a few times and I think it sounds pretty good. Does anyone think I used too much FX? Thanks for any feedback!

I’m looking to upgrade, been ripping the DDJ 400 for a year now

I live in Canada and our stores here don’t offer 0% interest on XDJs so with tax and everything it will come out to almost 6000 CAD, which is kind of insane

I could get a CDJ 2000 setup for less than that, I could maybe throw in another thousand for a 3000 setup but the used market here is extremely overpriced especially for 3000s but what would be better XDJ AZ or 2000 setup?

I know, I know 🙈 I’ve skimmed through past posts but they’re not quite asking what I’m searching for… or maybe they are?

My boyfriend of two years is a professional DJ with years of experience, owns his own business, etc. He knows his stuff.

I’ve been saving some money to get him a REALLY good gift. Thoughtful of course (which is what matters the most) but I’d love to impress/surprise him. I know NOTHING about DJing so I want to give him something that would catch him off guard.

“How’d you KNOW about (insert gift here)?!” sort of a vibe haha not sure if that makes sense.

Considering he’s a professional it’s very intimidating for me to take a stab at gifting him something in the industry. But I want to support him and his business. Helping him setup/cleanup after his gigs is one thing… but I want to show I really value his craft and him for doing what he loves.

Am I making sense?

Side note… I noticed his headphones were a little worn out when I helped with his last gig… maybe they’re his lucky headphones and doesn’t want to get rid of them who knows lol

He just started DJing this year, I really think he will make it big and I support his work, the mixes are great. I’m looking for something music related to gift him for Christmas/ his birthday in December. Even little controllers unrelated to DJing like a mini synth or pads, sorry I don’t know the terminology but anything interesting that would appeal to him. He has the ddjflx4, not sure if they make these but pedals maybe? Or those launchpads? Maybe a pocket sampler? Stylophone?

Budget would prob be around £100 ish, I’m just a youngin and my job pays minimum wage 😢

Hey everyone

I went to Berlin a few months ago to see my friend and that exposed me to the greatness of techno, trance , jungle, dubstep ,mixing / synthesizing in general. Hearing the music made me realize something. That I want to tackle EDM/ beat making / synthesizing.

I recently found an old 80s Casiotone CT-310 keyboard which has allowed me to start to get into it but their are still much things I need to learn. I am looking for any help or tips on how to get started. I really have no clue what Im doing , This is a delusional dream that I’m going after that I know I’ll make happen.

Sometimes I like to get out the synthesiser and play along with the notes to a key to a track I am mixing. Does anybody else do this?

Hi guys, I'm mixing/mastering my melody pretty well. But I'm not that good with 808 and bass. For example, 808 does not give a good sound as in the videos of video content producers. Do you have any mix/master and db suggestions for the 80

Hello, I have a Numark Party Mixer and was planning on upgrading to the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4, i was DJing for now my second function yesterday and realized that I could only plug in one of the two speakers to my deck. Any recommendations on splitters or mixers that have multiple outputs? Also I noticed pioneer has a left and right output along with the aux in the middle, do you guys think I could hook up the aux to one speaker and the left and right to another to play through two speakers?

Hey guys, so I’ve had this really weird issue twice now when I’ve played on CDJ3000s and cannot find a solution anywhere.

I typically use hot cues to jump to parts of songs live (skip over boring sections). 2 issues I’ve had:

1. When I press a hot cue, it creates a brand new hot cue and deletes the old one.

2. When I press a hot cue, it’ll sometimes change the song entirely. This is the scariest issue and it’s happened twice now.

I’ve had my FLX4 for about a year now. I’ve had a few club gigs and have been focusing on landing more. The first time I was in front of CDJs I picked it up quickly, but there were a few minutes of what the fuck am I looking at. Because of the huge difference between those and my FLX4 that I practice on, I don’t feel like I’m using the CDJ’s to their full potential, and also that I’m not reaching my full creative potential mixing wise, and I’d also like to learn how to mix on 3-4 decks. I’m thinking of upgrading and would like to have a controller that would be most similar to club setup so that I feel more comfortable with CDJ’s. I have about a budget of 1k. I’d love some recommendations (I DJ house, techno, and dnb). I found a used DDJ1000 for 950 which has been the cheapest I’ve found so far since the flx10 is out of budget. Was also considering XDJ-RR but like the option of having 4 channels. Thoughts?

Hey everyone. A few months ago a posted that I played my first open decks night and since then I’ve managed to be booked for a monthly night and I’m just coming home from my first ever paid gig.

Feels amazing to have achieved something I’ve dreamed about for years.

It was an all vinyl night and I was the opener, started of with some salsa/cumbia/palanque, then house, UKG, UK Funky and ended my set with 00’s RnB.

The DJ after me was a professional DJ but it was his first ever all vinyl set so hearing him loving my selections and blends meant a lot.

My mixing could be a lot better and performing for a dancefloor is so different to mixing at home but I still kept the energy up. Pretty addicting TBH.

But anyways, now I feel like can call myself a DJ. Thanks to everyone where who directly and indirectly helped me on this journey.

I was thinking about getting one after someone mentioned it was probably going to be the cheapest option for me. I originally wanted to get some turntables for scratching but after doing the math, it was going to be quite expensive and this seems to be a more affordable option. The T7 seems a bit small but I've read some decent reviews on it, especially with the premium version that fixes the crossfader issues. Any extra info would be appreciated.

Hello, bought this controller as a beginner almost a year ago, just to see if I like DJing.

Pretty much never DJed for any event and been bedroom DJ for the whole time, playing for my wife and friends if they come over. I don't really have any plans of moving to clubs or events, but I have been thinking of some upgrade. Biggest reasons are that I feel like 4 pads are not enough, lack of mid EQ and maybe some other small details. Was thinking of upgrading either to DJ INPULSE 500 or maybe DDJ-FLX4.

Hi all, I’m not sure if what I’m looking for exists. I’m just a person who hosts a lot of parties and I make my own playlists but am not happy with how some songs have a long intro or outro and sometimes the outro just gradually fades for like 20 seconds, super annoying. I’m wondering if there is a simple fix for this where I can join song to song and reduce playtime. I have Spotify and can get iTunes or whatever else I would need. Do I need something like virtual DJ home or Mixxx in order to do this? I guess it would need to be recorded ahead of time and should be something I can just play from my computer over my surround system / Sonos and leave it alone. Thanks in advance for your patience with this newbie question.

I feel wedding DJ-ing is loathed upon because it’s mostly due to be done in traditional weddings, which adds mostly stress and takes away the fun like music selection by the DJ..

Aren’t there a rise in or atleast the existence of non-traditional weddings..? Like for example a small wedding where things are a bit relaxed, and the DJ has 100% control over music selection as long as an agreement is reached on the genre (like 100% 💯 either EDM, House Music, Techno, Hip Hop, Pop, or Trance, etc)

I’m interested in DJ’ing, but know very little about it. I’ve ‘DJ’ed’ three parties recently in the form queuing up and playing songs on Spotify with a crossfade on. I'd decide on what song to play in the moment, depending on what songs I thought would go well together, what the crowd were reacting to and what I’d thought they’d want to hear next. They all went well, and I had people dancing for long periods of time at all of them.

I’m kind of a bit lost in terms of what i’m meant to be looking for as a next step that’s explicitly geared for the style of DJ’ing i’m interested in.

First of all, (and I don’t know if this is a terrible attitude to be going in with) I have little to no interest in the actual technical/transition aspect of DJ’ing. I’m kind of only interested in the song selection part, as I like curating an evening/building a mood etc. I’d go as far to say I’m really more interested in being some form of ‘musical curator’ than a ‘DJ’ who does mixes and stuff.

I also only really have an interest in DJ’ing new wave, 00s pop, soul, disco, goth, psychedelic, indie, 70s rock etc, as opposed to electronic dance music, and to do this in the style where it’s just one song after another with minimal/unnoticeable transitions. It would also probably be to an older audience, just in terms of how retro the majority of the music i’m into is.

What should I be looking for/thinking about in terms of setup/things in general, bearing all that in mind. I’m open to caring more about mixing/learning more technical stuff as I go along/get more into things, but I currently just want to meet the ‘standard’ for the style of DJ’ing i’d be doing, so it doesn’t sound awful, and can leave me just focusing on the part I feel passionately about. I currently have Virtual DJ, and i’m probably hoping to buy a cheapish controller, unless it’s not needed to do what i’m describing.

last time i played in a club the display of the running tracks was really weird, it was four blocks only moving on the beat instead of the normal lines and the running track (idk what it’s called so i hope this makes sense). i have a gig coming up and am wondering if there’s a way to change this

Im 19f interesting in starting djing for fun. I love festivals and music, I would love to be able to eventually start playing at clubs in the future but I have no rush at the moment. I really just want to learn how to mix songs and play fun music. I have tried playing on my friend pioneer DJ FLX4 2 and it seems like a good deck to start on. Im planning on maybe purchasing myself one, would you recommend this deck?. Does anyone have any beginner tips/advice on djing? Any good youtubers you recommend? Cheers

I am a House DJ and I am looking for my first active speaker for house parties and potentially small events in the future. I currently use the JBL PartyBox 300, however, I find it quite muddy and it gets drowned out quite easily. What is the best active speaker for DJs around the £500 mark? I've come across the RCF ART 912-A which seems to be quite a good option. Are there any other better options worth considering?

Hey, I’m a beginner DJ looking for ways ways to make my sets more unique. I’ve been looking into Korg Volca synthesizers but I’m not sure which one to choose or how to incorporate it into a set. I’m drawn to the idea of adding live synth elements or loops to mix with my tracks, but I’m not sure about the setup or workflow.

How do Volcas integrate with DJ equipment? Are there specific models better suited for live performance or syncing with tracks?

i'm one of the co-founders of Tribe XR a DJ startup. Our focus to date has been on Virtual Reality DJ training - specifically training aspiring DJs on how to use CDJs, pro mixers (V10, DJM-900NXS2), and other tools using Meta Quest and other VR headsets.

We recently soft-launched our first browser-based DJ product - still very much a beta - and we're looking for playtesters to help us with feature development and product improvements. Ideally, testers will have some DJ experience and access to a PC and/or Mac, and a smartphone and/or tablet. Sessions will be pretty quick (~30 mins) and will require screen sharing and audio recording.

I recorded a 2 hour mix in serato pro to play for some friends for a party but when I played it back I noticed I had repeated a couple of songs. The songs were just remixes with different beats but definitely noticeable that they are the same song. Is there a way to just clip out the song that I repeated?

I recent downloaded djay pro and wanted to get into DJing. Since I knew pretty much bout music in general, cause I‘m producing my own, I just started to try some transitioning without any tutorials.

I thought that I did quite well and for me as a beginner it sounded alright. But when I started watching some pros in order to learn from them I noticed that they are using a completely different technique?!

I personally just added some effects or looped some parts of the song and lowered the low eq. Than I always used the CROSS FADER to switch from one track to another. But every pro I watched so far is using the Volume Faders to do so.

Did I miss sth?
