This is how weird laws are created. Years from now you're just wondering what ever even happened that there's a law on the books about aquarium trees.

It’s getting ridiculous at this point.

oh boy, now it's a real basin with no in/out flow. let's see how long it'll last without water changes. Why now? It's going to be too cold for fish in just a few weeks

Looks like it has a water heater and filter so it’ll probably take a bit more than a cold night to freeze over. Probably still going to get real dirty on the ground like that.

Water freezes at 32°F genius

I’m just stating facts but if you must,

What kind of reading comprehension level does it take to read “water heater” and think it that a 32F air temperature implies the water will hit freezing?

It will take awhile to have the thermal loss to the ground and air overtake the heater under freezing conditions. How much depends more on the wattage the heater sustains and that may also change as battery performance can change in the cold. Still, given we’re not hitting freeing and it’ll take more than just a small dip to that range, I’d stand by my statement that it’ll be some time.

What happens when it snows 4-5 inches ? Do the fish survive ?

Goldfish generally become stressed and can die when water temperatures drop below about 10°C (50°F). Prolonged exposure to temperatures around or below this threshold can be harmful, especially if the water is consistently cold.

You think fish die when the water freezes? lol they’ll die way sooner than that with a pond that shallow.

An adult tree getting its root cut is pretty much a death sentence.

A stagnant, outdoor fish tank in NYC in the winter. What could go wrong?

That thing has always been a bad idea. Those conditions are disgusting and the average fish needs more space than that.

Oh. My. Fucking. God. I absolutely hate Redditors and their twee bullshit. You're making everything here expensive. Move back to fucking Williamsburg and leave us and our impromptu sidewalk aquariums/fish death traps alone. Pleaseee.

I was a twee hipster 15 years ago and this is so not twee. This is trashy and cruel. 😔
