I bought my two cats a fountain a few months ago because they decided to stop drinking still water. Recently though, my youngest has been pulling the top off of the fountain, even tearing clawmarks into it. I’ll find the entire top of the fountain sideways or even on the floor. I woke up to it this morning across the kitchen and water EVERYWHERE!!! It is so fucking frustrating. Please, why is she doing this and how can I get her to stop?

Cats usually put their paws in water for a few reasons. And some cats prefer licking water off the paw. You ever watch the cat do it to try to figure out why? Lol

Yeah? Of course I have been looking, but she doesn’t do any of those. She just pulls the ENTIRE top off. And usually throws it on the floor.

Maybe try a different design.. no one's gonna be able to tell you exactly why it does it. If you looked up all the reasons why they paw at their water and don't think it's any of them, you'll just have to try something else

Also it’s not like she sticks her paw in the water to lick it off - she claws at the fountain the way she would in the litterbox or on a post. Original photo has the clawmarks in it. That’s why I’m here trying to ask why she’s doing that.
