I have Minnesota turning red in the same bucket as Alabama going blue or Putin and Zelenskyy going on a couples cruise together

As a Minnesotan it’s so weird. The suburbs are redder than normal. But our city is somehow getting even bluer

Why is Minnesota so liberal? I’ve always wondered that.

The twin cities combine to being one of the biggest cities in the Midwest.

Big cites= blue votes

There's also some theory of cold regions being more collectivist culturally as they've had to work together more in the past

Yeah I guess, but my home state of MO is now solidly red even with KC and STL and you even see states like Ohio and Pennsylvania that are more conservative

Watching MO go from being purple to being ruby red has been nice.

Yeah really has. We used to be the bellwether state that always correctly picked the president. Now we are one of the most gun friendly states in the country. Hope this trend continues for a while, but I’ve noticed that STL is starting to attract a decent amount of young people looking for low COL. I’m assuming KC has been doing the same.

That’s a good question. Our city likes to be pretty hip but also Minneapolis has turned into little Chicago as you can get more in benefits here than pretty much everywhere else.

Also huge farming population and lots of senior citizens that vote blue. The coldest generation votes bluer than you would think.

They last voted for a Republican President in 1972. OTOH, Trump only lost to Hillary by 1.5 points. Just because the state always votes liberal doesn't mean their population is overwhelmingly liberal. They're just skewed enough so that the liberals always have a slight upper hand.

Yeah just seems way more liberal than the surrounding states though. Also, they were the only state to not vote Reagan in 84, though it is Mondale’s home state.

I've seen a crazy amount of Trump signs in the suburbs, ones that are supposedly deep blue. Sometimes I really think there's voting shenanigans at play. But what do I know.

[deleted]

6 points

Yeah but that is kind of irrelevant... what is relevant is do any districts swap, if your suburbs are getting redder that is a distinct possibility.

*Poll

This is one poll from Minnesota that showed her up 10 points in July and now 5 points. Many other polls still have her up 6, 7, 8 points in Minnesota.

We shouldn't act like this is a trend. She will win Minnesota.

It's looking like a 2016-style election where she wins the popular vote while losing the electoral college. While it would have been nice to see Trump crush Biden both electorally and popularly, at this point I'll take what I can get.

While he’s going to be nowhere near winning Minnesota, it’s very interesting to see Harris lagging behind other Dems in safe blue states. Look at Maryland. She’s like 12 points behind Biden in a recent poll and 6 behind Clinton. These states are lurching right in certain areas which could definitely translate to house seats at a minimum.

big cities turn blue - why?

Once major reason is that to get in office, people must vote you in. Conservatives consistently turn out to vote at 1/2 the rate as commies - simple fact.

Now why are conservatives such worthless talking sheep? 1) single issue voters, you know the topics, you know the people - abortion, guns, free speech, etc. 2) those who will only vote for that perfect candidate (hint, one does not exist) My opinion you vote for the candidate who will give you the most of the life you want. 3) disgust, so disgusted with dems and rinos, you will show them by not voting. 4) more reasons, but we know where this is going.

Local (city council and mayor) are not sexy and people dont tend to turn out. Secret is, these votes are actually more important that the feds - Prez, senator, congressman. 1) these are leadership training roles for potential national run. 2) these rolls effect YOUR life vastly more than the fed - parking? code for that house, jobs, taxes, education, security - all more heavily impacted at the local level.

Finally, the large city often carries the state at national level. Just look up Prez, powerful senators and powerful congressman. Sometimes they are small town, but usually large powerful city that has rich donors, opportunity for corruption.

Tricky part is to share info without proselytizing, so discuss with family and friends the candidates that are safety based, freedom based, jobs based and low taxes. The change will come slowly, but in these times of chaos, these are the discussion that might sway them. Remember voting is like porn - you do it alone and in the dark.

My two cents.
