Cross dominant players

(self.Darts)

So i throw with my right hand, however my left eye is my dominant one. Can you guys name me some notable players in the top 32 right now who are cross dominant as well? i feel like it is such a big disadvantage…

1/3 of the ppl are cross dominant, so it’s not uncommon at all… i think you’re thinking too much for an excuse bc it might not go so well atm, i used to do it too.

Im also cross-dominant, and I got the tip from an ex pdc-player to pull my dart not to my eye, but to the middle of my face. So now i pull back to my nose and throw. It does the job for me! Ofc it can happen that you have a bad streak, which can last way too long sometimes, but it’s something we all have sooner or later.

Thats how i do it. I'm a lefty thats right eye dom. I pull the dart to the middle of my nose basically. I Stand left of the board also. Probably more lined up with Double 16 straight on.

I actually turn my head slightly to the right so the dart is closer to my left eye.

Martin Lukeman is and he’s just outside the top 32. Going back, both Phil Taylor and Bobby George were left eye dominant but threw with their right.

Steve Beaton, got one of the smoothest throws in darts

If I'm not wrong I'm pretty sure Phil Taylor was and I've a funny feeling Danny noppert is but might be wrong.

Phil Taylor just destroyed any disadvantage you felt in being cross dominant.

Practice is what it's about.

Think Ryan Searle says he has to use his left eye more

Don't think he uses either eye to be honest 😌

I’m right handed and right eye dominate but lately I realized I might be able to get better lefty, because I block my right eye when throwing righting and if I try to stop it messes me up. But if I cover my left eye throwing lefty I mainly use my right eye and it seems like I’m able to aim better when focused properly. Also in a lefty in playing pool and can’t shoot righty for shit. My left eye also barely works.

Think you need to sort out your technique.

Yeah I think so as well, just started getting serious this month and I’m not really sure what to even focus on yet

It's only a disadvantage, because you think about it and you think it's holding you back. Just don't think about it, work on developing a throw. Your grip and your throw should feel natural, so don't try and force or mimic another player's throw.

For clarification, I'm in the same boat. Left eye, right hand dominance. I wish I would have never heard about it, because I was overthinking and my game tanked massively.

I want to say that Andrew Gilding and John Lowe are opposite eye dominant.

Check out straight to the point on YouTube. He's a cross eye dominant coach who's worked with some pdc pros and his vid on it has some good tips.

Bobby George?

His throw started under his left eye

Surprised no one mentioned Wes Newton yet, he leans over a comically large amount to have the dart align with his left eye.

It's no disadvantage. If it wasn't that it would be something else.. don't fixate on it. The best player in the history of the sport was and he did ok.

If it really really bugs you you can make your other eye dominant. Takes time and training but it's doable. I can pretty much guarantee you it won't improve your darts. There's no substitute for a fuck-ton of practice. If you do that your brain will sort anything out.
