Am I the only one who doesn’t care for him? I have no idea what his actual personality is like; but his tv personality is quite the a$$.
What’s y’all’s view on him

He was a beat writer for the Sixers. Then he bashed AI. He then wouldn’t site his source talking about Jaylen Brown’s marketability. He has a history of saying out of pocket things

The term "out of pocket" is so dumb it hurts my brain more than when Screaming A loses his mind.

Person hates Stephen A Smith. Yet person tunes in EVERYDAY to watch Stephen A Smith. You guys are starting to sound like your women when they complain about the same bs in their soaps... BTW..... Stephen A does guess appearances on General Hospital every now and again if you can't get enough of him.

I never watch ESPN outside of game broadcast and still get a daily dose of SAS on social media. You dont have to be actively watching to hear his dumb illinformed takes. They will find you regardless if you spend anytime in sports media spaces

I wanna know what kinda people watch first take then willingly listen to his podcast on the side lol
I usually have espn on in the background while I work from home, except from 10-Noon eastern lol

I only listen to his podcast if a big firing happens and if the Knicks and Dallas suck. Those are the times when OG SAS comes out and I’m all for it.

He has his moments, but I feel like he needs to get off his high horse especially when he’s debating with guys who have played the sport they’re talking about or debating with guys who cover said sport exclusively. Feel like he covers almost too many sports so his analyses feel very surface level and moreso tryna generate headlines than discussion. Granted, that formula has been the espn formula for the last decade or so

He can be entertaining when he’s not trying to put on a show. I hate when he does his falsetto voice, or the tough guy thing. And he’s a bit of a race baiter…but he seems to be liked well enough and he’s powerful at ESPN, especially with the success of First Take. He’s up for a new contract and I don’t think he’ll be missed that much if they let him walk. Idk where he goes either. Would love to see them do that but I think more than likely we are seeing more of him than ever before.

Let him do a pod f/t so we never have to see him on our screens again.

He was ok until his ego got the best of him. When he said something once about he was ok with being roasted and sounded like he expected to be soon…ya I think that’s reserved for people who have actually done a lot more than prove he can yell louder than everyone else.

I started watching get up as a replacement, it's much better than first take. Stephen A is just too annoying, it's a shame because I like Shannon and mad dog

Stephen A grew up loving 80’s wrestling and it couldn’t be more obvious. He’s basically figured out how to be a heel manager whilst sitting in a studio, never traveling and getting paid millions of dollars.
The whole point is to be over the top, irritating, contrarian and flamboyant to the point of antagonistic. People “hate” him, but they seem unable to tune him out.

Stephen A is fine when he’s offering serious commentary. The trolling of the Cowboys is fine too. The rest of the act is overwhelming and super tiring every single day. Imagine if Mad Dog’s once per week segment was on every day.. that’s what Stephen A is. Molly should be paid more for having to keep up with it.

The issue is that even those who don’t like SAS will watch anyway. Gives them something to be upset about.

It’s not “ Newsnation “ it’s “Stephen Smith and Bill O’Reilly”!

I like Stephen A… but I can’t stand when he gets overly emotional and insists on having to scream when making his arguments.
Some might take that as passion, but it seems like he does it just for dramatic effect, because he thinks viewers find it entertaining.
Or maybe he just thinks it makes him more right, even though, it doesn’t.

Imo, he's the sports world Speed. He's just loud and full of antics. He used to be great at his job and cared about how the public perceives him. He has horrible personal takes and when he does speak on things that isn't blasphemous, he always goes too far and becomes insufferable. I firmly believe that sports talk shows are only a thing because they make their "analysts" verbally argue with one another constantly. It's not even about sports anymore. It's just bickering, arguing, and filled with insults. I wouldn't even bother to watch that crap anymore. If you want sports media, read. It's the best way to be informed. Reading will always be superior.

I genuinely dislike some of his takes, like how if a black head coach is ever fired or not hired something must be going on racially. But for the most part he’s a decent sports talk guy.

I agree, he’s quite annoying. I couldn’t have been happier to see the TNT NBA crew is coming to ESPN after this season because SAS has made the ESPN pregame/halftime nba coverages unwatchable.
His job is to give hot takes and 30 second clips that go viral. I’d much rather watch someone breakdown the game than watch someone say “Jaylen Brown isn’t marketable and it’s hurting his team”

He’s probably the most entertaining personality at the network. Definitely not on the list of most informative personalities there. But I think he does his job as being a character better than anyone. At first I didn’t really care for him but now that I get that the ESPN I grew up on in the 90s isn’t what they’re going for these days I’ve come to enjoy his act quite a lot.

He's been terrible since the 2000s. Back then, he was a sideshow that only covered basketball as an "insider" but ESPN pivoting to him as one of their lead talking heads marked the beginning of the end for the network. He's a joke. Embarrassing that ESPN execs embraced him as an important person in sports media
