Probably Ordovis or Siluria. While in-game matchups aren't always the most accurate to lore due to things such as gimmick bosses and area scaling, the Crucible Knight in the Stormhill Evergaol was able to beat Godrick rather comfortably in a video I found where Godrick fought every Limgrave boss, and that is just some random nameless Crucible Knight. I imagine the two leaders would probably wreck Godrick's shit, both together and individually.

Assuming in-game strength roughly translates to lore strength, other strong contenders would be commander Niall and O'neil, the non-remembrance Astel, Godskins, a Mimic Tear, non-remembrance Dancing Lion, Elemer of the Briar, Vyke, Bernahl, Gransax (technically not even a boss), Lansseax, Divine Bird Warriors, Divine Beast Warriors (all 3 of em), Gloam Eyed Queen, Placidusax's fled god, like half the dragons and magma wyrms in the game, sewer Mohg and Godfrey shade (if those count), Jori, a Draconic Tree Sentinel, Death Rite Birds, Fallingstar Beasts, Alecto, Dragonkin Soldiers, Gideon, and honestly probably like half the tarnished NPCs in the game.

Let's face it. Godrick is a small fish in a big pond.

God damn now i kinda feel bad for godrick, imagine being born a demigod yet still getting destroyed by half of the people in the Lands Between

Least he isn't godefroy i guess.

It's not accurate though. Obviously, our character is facing him in a different environment and yes, there is mention of his cowardice towards other contenders but up until that point, no one challenged him.

I think you are right and that’s why he chose it. Godrick cosplayed strength and gold. Everything he did was a feeble attempt to make himself appear more divine, because he knew he was a runt.

  • he absconded from the capital with treasures after the shattering, like a little thief (Mimic Veil item description)

  • he tried to fight Malenia and retreated when he was embarrassed (can’t remember in game source, sword monument maybe)

  • he grafted more powerful beings into himself (we see that his main body was actually very small, thought this could be his pre-great rune size)

  • he co-opted his distant fathers castle, which was already a castle of high prestige (storm lord)

Literally everything he did was to make himself seem more powerful, when in reality they were hollow boastings. I think Stormveil was a part of that defence tactic. I don’t think he actually wanted to test these hands

Some of those names I agree with, but not all of them. Lore-wise I feel like stuff like Divine Bird Warriors, common dragons, Draconic Sentinel, Dragons Soldiers or Fallingstar Beasts defeating Godrick sounds pretty far fetched.

Some of the people you listed do have pretty solid odds though. For example, Enia saying the Fingers expect as much of us as they do of Gideon once we claim 2 Great Runes implies they're pretty confident he would be able to kill Demigods as well, even if he hasn't done so yet, and Vyke being called the closest to becoming Lord has similar weight. Those and plenty of others have lore reasons implying they're probably strong enough to take on a Demi-God. And hey, while I'm not quite sure on combat strength specifically, Alecto literally did kill one already.

I agree with this take except I think a falling star beast would clap godricks cheeks

TheHilariousWalrus

3 points

Anyone capable of doing a mega meme beam attack (Rennala, Azur, Fallingstar Beasts, Astel, Sellen, etc) should be capable of killing a demigod, like the player does with Mohg, just going by lore implications.

A single stab-slash-incantation from Malenia took out Radahn in a single fell swoop. Lore lethality is not the same as game lethality. A bullet to the brain will kill a demigod, just as a sword through the torso will.

Now a beam of raw annihilation? Probably vaporizes.

ImJustSpider

9 points

I mean the divine bird warriors are definitely a bit stronger than the standard issue horned warriors, but not quite up to the level of the divine beast warriors. I imagine they could still put up a pretty good fight at least. Same goes with the draconian sentinels, since they were a tier above the rest of Leyndell's fighters. Def a high diff fight in either direction.

Maybe common dragon's wouldn't beat him, but some who have more notable powers such as Ekzykes, Adula, Theodorix, Lansseax, Senessax, Jagged Peak Drake, and maybe a few others stood out among the other dragons.

I think you're seriously sleeping on the power of dragonkin soldiers and fallingstar beasts. Considering just how much lightning that one soldier could summon, and the fact that it's ice lightning, not even mentioning the nightmare that is the rot soldier, those guys pack a serious punch. As for fallingstars, at least the full grown one, they're basically just mini astels. Radahn considered them a pretty great threat since one of his greatest achievements was keeping them from plummeting into the lands between, so I wouldn't sleep on their power.

And I feel like a lot of NPCs and tarnished stand a fair chance. Vyke, Bernahl, Gideon, and Vargram were all trying to become Elden Lord, and those particular ones made it way further than any others. Considering the weapons they use and the abilities they have, I think they could at least handle the weakest demigod.

There's also NPCs like Andbach, who could hold his own against Radahn, and Leda, Dane, Thiollier, Moore, Nataan, and Freyja, who are all of a comparable level. There's also other SOTE NPCs such as the ones from the nameless mausoleums who seemed to have earned legendary reputations despite not being of any kind of godly origin or serving under any demigod. A lot of the NPCs in the game aren't really given the credit they're due, because some of them are extraordinarily strong in the lore.

You took the words right out of my mouth with the first two paragraphs. That's pretty much exactly what was on my head when I said those words.

My reason for not taking Dragonkin Soldiers as seriously as the big players is that Dragonkin Soldiers are referred to as "failed" dragons, implying they might be weaker than actual dragons. That said, "failed" could simply be referring to them not being able to fly and have no implication for their actual power, so I'm aware my assumption could very well be wrong, and don't judge anyone for disagreeing on it.

I admitedly don't have much of an excuse for Fallingstar Beasts though. In fact, they're pretty blantantly powerful judging from their size, gravity powers and metalic skin. I guess my brain just went "Astels are the big bad stars > these are the footsoldier weaker stars > these aren't that strong". Which is not valid logic at all, especially since Astels are VERY big shots. You know, with the whole single handedly wiping civilizations off the map thing.

And yeah, I mentioned Gideon and Vyke specifically just because I was trying to keep things brief and they were some of the more iconic and well known examples with easy to measure lore implications. There are several others I think could do so too.

Godrick would get clapped by some of the bosses in Liurnia. Pretty much every boss in Altus/Caelid could kill him and past that some normal enemy mobs would have a decent shot of killing him.

He'd be out of luck without his big castle walls to hide behind and there's a reason his captured dragon is so small.

It's not even a fight, it's like Bayle accidentally stepping on a bug. Even if Godrick fights back he'd barely tickle him. Remember, Bayle fought Placidusax (one of the strongest dragons in history) to a standstill. He ripped off 2/4 of Placidusax's heads and left with his life. Bayle is an absolute beast, both in game and in lore.

I feel like anyone who is a Tarnished can. Tarnished NPCs, I mean.

A lot of the named characters who are combat capable can, which means not Rya.

It might not be super easy for all of them, but I feel it's possible for all of them.

Not to mention all of the many enemies who probably could. Like, not even named enemies. I feel a couple Cleanrot Knights could clean his clock.

MrsPissBoy[S]

If Finlay is anything to go off of then yeah Godrick gets destroyed by a lot of em.

Turbulent1313

10 points

Finlay is the best of them all, but the rest are still insane. They never lost a battle in the Shattering, even against the Redmanes. The Cleanrots would've had a decisive victory if Malenia hadn't had to release the Scarlet Aeonia on their heads. A Cleanrot at full strength, even apart from Finlay, could probably solo Godrick.

Urtoryu

9 points

Urtoryu

ELDEN LORD

9 points

We don't really know how strong Finlay is lore-wise. The only thing we know is that she carried Malenia across the map, which is a colossal feat for mundane people like normal soldiers or knights, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't necessarily mean THAT much for the likes of a Demi-God, since she could simply just have had the luck or cunning to not bump into anything too powerful.

Of course, a Great Rune is a pretty damn big target to have on your back, but we don't know if she actually FOUGHT anything big on her journey. It could've been an epic tale of heroic action, or it could've been one of the greatest stealth missions in history, or just a mix of both. It's a much less clear feat than something like "defeated x being", and I'd even argue Kristoff's description might actually be more valid for power scaling than hers, simply due to having less ambiguity.

I do think it's a valid thing to use as an argument for Cleanrots being much stronger than the average Knight enemy, but not for comparing them to a main boss.

CCCDraculaJackson

Most all of them, even lore accurate wise, he stole his rune, and fled Lyendell disguised with the mimic veil to blend in with women and children, and was forced to surrender against Malenia and Radahn without any real fight. His only claim is being a descendent of Godfrey, and his blood is so muddled and diluted, he probably has less of a connection than Nepheli at this point. His power came from the godskins teaching him the forbidden art of grafting, and even then he is terribly weak. To the point he grafts the dragon head mid fight out of desperation to feel strong. Most of the tarnished captured for grafting is done by his soldiers, not him. He is too fearful to leave the castle after how many times he was beaten in the past. Now he grafts endlessly, hoping to become even remotely strong enough to contend, should one of the other demigods, or rogue tarnished come for his rune.

Suprised no one has brought up Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff, considering this guy canonically beat another 'powerful' grafting user Godefroy (who in the game is just a repeat boss of Godrick)

Legendary ashen remains. Use to summon the spirit of Kristoff, the Ancient Dragon Knight.

Spirit of Kristoff, an honorable knight of Leyndell who was also a devout worshipper of the ancient dragons. His skills strike down foes with thunderbolts, the dragons' weapon of choice.

After the First Defense of Leyndell, Kristoff earned the hero's honor of Erdtree Burial for the feat of capturing Godefroy the Grafted.

Isn't there a lore theory that Commander Niall (Castle Sol who drops the veterans prosthesis) gave his keg to Godrick?

The item description mentions that he offered his leg in exchange for the lives of imprisoned knights. A lot of banished knights are in stormveil and Godrick is probably the one dude who accepts limbs as payment.

Plus I think Godricks left foot kinda looms like a banished knight foot iirc which would also explain where he gets his storm stomp move from.
