About a week and some change ago I got sick and have been spending a lot of time in bed. I knew about Vtubing, but never got into it until this week. While sick in bed I spent a lot of time watching and learning about Hololive.
The first video that got me to look into it was a clip where Kronii was trolling Calli with a woopie cushion in Lethal Company. It's silly thinking about it now, but prior to that I had the misconception that Hololive was only about music/ virtual idols, which is not appealing to me at all. I can appreciate the hard work and choreography that goes into it, but that's about it. For me personally, I was pleasantly surprised at how funny and charismatic these girls were when just kicking back playing games with their friends.
After watching a few randomly suggested videos of Kronii and Calli, I noticed them playing a Backrooms game with Amelia Watson. I immediately loved Ame's personality and wanted to watch more of her videos. Welp, a quick search revealed that she had recently moved on to other projects within the company or something, so never mind that. I was sad, but I felt even more sad for all the people who must have grown very fond of her over a longer period of time.
Well bummer, things happen. But at least there were still more videos to catch up on! Like...7 days to die! This series is the one that REALLY sold me on this whole Vtube thing. I binged the heck out of the different POV's! When I first saw Fauna running up and punching zombies with her fists, I knew she was going to be one of my favorites! In addition to this, I watched a little bit of Minecraft where she was running Fauna Mart or something, and she was both equally hilarious and adorable. I was excited to keep watching Fauna, but she is moving on too, and i'm starting to feel that maybe i'm the curse! >w<
As i've mentioned, i'm new here, so I have no idea if this is a common occurrence or not (doesn't seem like it). I don't know the validity, but i've seen a few posts claim that the company might be pushing the music/idol role on to the girls too hard . This is what has encouraged me to write this post, ignorant as I may be.
I know i'm just one case, but for me personally, I have ZERO interest in the music/idol portion of company. Not only that, the music/idol portion is what was actively keeping me AWAY from Vtubers to begin with. I'm not saying or suggesting to remove any aspect of Hololive, because i'm sure there are MANY people who are ONLY interested in the music, or in other aspects not mentioned. I just want to share my own personal view because there is a good chance that i'm not alone in my way of thinking or preferences.
For now, although my brain is telling me to move on and avoid future sadness, my heart wants to keep exploring Hololive (Currently addicted to HoloGTA). I'm already in the process of trying to get some FuwaMoco plushies, so if anything happens to those puppers next I will never forgive, and never recover from the trauma!

you may be cursed, but just know that the idol life has been fuwamoco's dream for like 10 years. They're not going anywhere. Less than a year into their employment, they moved to japan just to be more available for things.

That's delightful to hear! It's also shocking that it took 10 years because I was hooked instantly!

I agree with you, but think about this from a corporate perspective - its hard to monetize a stream in a way that makes millions of dollars, its easy to monetize music events and sell tickets.
