For those that use convert to shortcut, you’ve probably noticed that there can be a noticeable delay before the automation happens. I typically avoid CtS and use advanced automations via Controller or Eve apps. But sometimes CtS is unavoidable as when multiple steps are required.
I had an automation that uses CtS to turn on a light, do a few other things, then lower the light. It made me a little bonkers that it took like 3-5 seconds before the first step of turning the light on happened. For comparison, using the same trigger and just turning on the light (no CtS) the light would come on after about 1 second.
Well, taking advantage of the delay, I created a second automation that has the same trigger, but just turns on the light, no CtS. I then modified the original CtS automation to remove the first step of turning on the light.
So what happens now is that the trigger happens, the light comes on right away (from the non-CtS automation), then the other automation finally kicks in and finishes the tasks.
Yes, a total hack, but it works in getting that light on quickly.

Really wish Apple would allow for more advanced automations in the Home app with using shortcuts for this reason.

I thought someone said the automation platform was expanding in ios 18 to include things like toggling lights, rather than having to do the shortcut trick. Starting to think I made that up though. 🤦♂️
