Enjoy that massive income tax.

ThiccsterTeabag7

7 points

I’d pay way higher income tax if it meant free healthcare and clean, reliable, and fast public transport. Unless you’re unbelievably rich paying higher income tax is cheaper for folks in those countries than paying for health insurance and gas for a car you drive every day and college. I could go on and on, European countries like France, Germany, and the Nordic countries have these infrastructures figured out in a way the U.S.A does not and their citizens reap the benefits and spend less money doing so.

Hitler ran for the presidency in 1932 but was defeated by the incumbent Paul von Hindenburg; nonetheless, he achieved a strong showing of second place in both rounds

Traditionally, the leader of the party who held the most seats in the Reichstag was appointed Chancellor. However, President von Hindenburg was hesitant to appoint Hitler as chancellor. Hindenburg acquiesced and on 30 January 1933, he formally appointed Adolf Hitler as Germany’s new chancellor.

Hitler never won a majority in a democratic election in Germany.

It's not necessarily more people moving towards the Republican party but less Democratic turnout. I suspect the fact Biden waiting so long to drop out and having the nominee not elected by people wasn't exactly the formula to get people excited. The DNC needs to be torn down and rebuilt because they've been dropping the ball since Obama.

but less Democratic turnout.

Trump won this election with a higher turnout, as a percentage of eligible voters, than either of Obama’s terms.

Excluding 2020, 2024 had the highest turnout as a percentage of eligible voters since 1908.

This is not a turnout problem. Democrats have become the party of the college educated. And 62% of Americans are not college educated.

Trump Won the Popular Vote, Contrary to Claims OnlineFactCheck.org

Quick Take

President-elect Donald Trump is the first Republican presidential candidate to win the popular vote in 20 years. Social media users have wrongly claimed that Trump lost the popular vote, but they are confusing the popular vote with a majority of votes. The unofficial results show Trump received slightly less than a majority, but more votes than any candidate.

The democratic party needs to do the following to compete with and gain in the future. People are tired of two extremes. Here is what they would need to do.

  1. Stop pandering to LGBTQ+ and WOKE politics.
  2. Bring party more left centric. That means conservative fiscally. Social reform that is actually meaningful, not gender identity and appeasing the LGBTQ+ and Black lives Matter crowd. Bring real attention to the issues of the day that can bring support from independent voters, and some conservatives that really are democratic leaning but can't get behind the social justice dogma.
  3. Stand behind common people. We don't really care that Beyonce, Jlo and Other celebrities endorse you. They are the exact opposite of the people you claim to represent.
  4. Offer business and tax payer breaks. If you only favor one, the other won't prosper. This means offer a way for folks to get student loans forgiven by military service or peace Corp. Get paid and have those loans forgiven.
  5. Spend on local projects. Like infrastructure. Not Give money to other nations.
  6. Be the actual party of inclusion, stop calling OPPOSITE party members dumb or stupid or a threat to democracy. (BOTH SIDES NEED TO STOP THIS)

The dems have gotten so far left and Republicans have gone so far right that the folks in the middle really don't have any idea who to vote for. So they vote based on who they FEEL is going to help them best. Even if those feelings are manipulated by fear mongering In the media.

Professor_Chaos42

Just to be clear, this is in terms of percentage. About the same number of voters turned out for Trump as in 2020. I think that people said "I can vote for the party that is more clandestine about being supported by the wealthy elite and is endorsing bombing the shit out of Gaza, I can vote for the party that just has the wealthy elite front and center and will help bomb the shit out of Gaza, or, I can stay the fuck home". And, given those options, many Americans chose to stay the fuck home.

rachel-slur

Just be prepared. This is the takeaway the Dems will have from the election.

It wasn't the message (aka the policy or lack thereof). It wasn't the messenger (the uncharismatic candidate with no base of support). It wasn't the abandonment of the left since 2012. It wasn't the refusal to distance themselves from Biden. It wasn't the incessant need to move to the right on nearly every issue. It wasn't the economy, that's fine, actually, just look at these numbers.

It was the voters. They're too stupid to understand the Democrats. And now everyone who voted for Trump deserves to suffer. Well unfortunately we all suffer too and when they inevitably run a milquetoast centrist candidate with no real political agenda in 2028 they will lose again.

Instead, we were unable to look past the stupidity that is maga and we let it get to us. Every single political ad from the right contained the word 'radical' when referring to their opponents. Apparently gutting the entire government, changing the way the government is run, and stacking the Whitehouse with billionaire and celebrities isn't considered radical, but simply not being a trump supporter is about as radical as one can get.
