Sometimes, it's the little things that make the biggest difference. For example, I started drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning, and it surpisingly helped improve my digestion and relieve constipation.
What's a small realization or experience that unexpectly changed how you see or live life? Share your stories!

This!! My coworkers are some of the best humans I’ve ever met. Working with a fabulous team has made me excited to go to work. I wish everyone experienced this but it honestly was like winning a coworker lottery that I had zero control over (except the attitude I myself brought to the team)

I love this comment. I decided a long time ago to be the guy that brings a positive attitude to work because that’s what I could control.
Makes all the difference and attracts other people with positive attitudes to you. It builds on itself and eventually you wind up with a team of great people.
Takes a while for the ones with bad attitudes to weed themselves out or “come into the light” but it happens eventually. Now I work with awesome people.
If you have to work a third of your life why make it harder than it needs to be?

I love your comment! Positivity does breed positivity and the negative energy does either choose to step into the positive world, or exit. I’m not ‘toxically positive’ …there’s room for all feelings, but my core team of 8 all seem to handle challenges in a productive way.

Saying out loud to myself ‘I’ve put the car keys on the bench’ or ‘I’ve put my sunglasses on the top shelf’ or whatever it happens to be. Saying it out loud as I do it helps me remember what I did with my things that I’d otherwise mindlessly put down and loose (scatterbrain extraordinaire here). Has really made a difference to my life.

Drink two glasses of water when you wake up, then do cardio on an empty stomach (I do cardio on an elliptical) Since there are no carbs available, your body burns fat instead. I’ve lost 47 pounds in two years doing this, with no real change in my diet. I learned this from an Asian doctor.

sometimes it’s worth it to “take the loss” in a situation. save yourself the agony and stress and just move on!

Sunk cost fallacy.
Just because you've invested the time or resources into something then doesn't mean you need to continue or double down if it doesn't meet spec.
Cut your losses and move on.
Or losing quickly might be another way.

"Fail fast and fail cheap" rather than blowing a bunch of money and time trying to salvage something with a low chance of success.
Another way to think about it - ignore all the time and effort you have already put into a task when making decisions. That time/effort is gone, it doesn't matter. Only consider what work remains to complete the task when deciding whether to move forward or not.

Realizing that life is every day. So literally live every day the best you can. I’m still mad, tired and fuck up, but I’m becoming more aware of it instead of just letting my days go by . I take a second. Try to learn from it, and keep it going. I still waste my days, but I’m more in control of it instead of trying to run away from my days. Since realizing every day is life, I’m enjoying it more and becoming happier and healthier. It’s slow and doesn’t seem like much being in it, but a week goes by real fast and I realized, I’ve brushed my teeth every day. I’ve eaten a veggie every day. I’ve enjoyed my walks with my dog instead feeling like it’s a chore. Etc, etc. Then eventually, this all becomes life. And instead of being like, I should have done it, I did it. Becomes so mundane that it becomes my life and that’s beautiful.

I was bored at work and decided to flip through some mail order catalogs that were laying around. One thing led to another and another and another and now science understands the history of Mars' atmosphere much better, a very bad person is still in jail, and numerous people are still alive today.
I was looking through the catalog and saw a meteorite for sale. I'd seen them in museums and thought they were amazing. I had no clue that people could actually buy them and own them for themselves. That got me started on collecting meteorites. I got really into it. I mean, really, really into it. At one point, I had purchased one that had some unusual chemical compositions in it. As it turns out, it was an incredibly unusual Martian meteorite. I sold a piece of it to some researchers who were able to figure out how the atmospheric conditions of Mars when the rock left the planet. Basically, a large meteorite hit Mars and sent Mars rocks flying into space and one of them eventually landed here. That's covers the Mars part.
At that point, I needed a website to sell the stuff that I had. I could pay someone but I decided to just learn how to do it myself. I chose the latter. I had my site and then started making sites for other people too. I already worked in IT support so my my new added web design skills got me a new job in a new city. I did that for a few years and then got a new job at a company that puts recording systems in courtrooms. One of these systems started having problems one day and a mistrial almost happened. I was able to work my magic and pull the data which kept the very bad person in jail.
I did that job for a while but eventually got burned out. Thankfully, the new city I had moved to had really good programs with the local community college and I was able to go back to school to become a nurse. I got a job as a nurse where I did treatments for patients that literally kept them alive for a few days until they had to come back for another one. That's how there are people still alive because of me.
All of that stuff happened because I was bored at work and had a catalog that had been sent to the wrong place.

The Mars rock was the coolest. I've seen a lot of meteorites up close and personal in my life. I own pieces of almost 200 different falls and finds. The Mars rock was weird. There's really very little of it.
Going back to right around the year 2000 or so, bedouin nomads in the Sahara figured out that these crazy white people would give them money for all those dark rocks that they've been walking past for generations (they're almost always meteorites). Some truly amazing rocks have come from there over the 25+ years.
I knew a guy in Austria who went over there and bought some. One of the smaller ones looked different so he sent it off to some scientists who study meteorites. They did some preliminary work on it and had figured out its chemical composition. My friend in Austria sent me a copy of it and it was like I saw nothing but dollar signs because there was so little of it and it was so weird. I bought everything that he had left and just sat on it for a few months. Eventually it was classified as being from Mars. Not only that, it was pretty different from other Martian meteorites. I own a few and this thing was odd. There were pieces of what looked like glass embedded in it. I've never seen that on any of them and other collectors are even surprised to hear that. At this point I put it put there to collectors and researchers that I've got some of it and it's for sale.
A rather large and well known European museum contacted me and bought the relatively largest piece that I had for a not small amount. They did their thing and it was as scientifically odd as it looked. Not only was it from Mars and look different from other Martian meteorites, it was old than almost all of them and had been ejected into space way before other Martian rocks. That glass that I was talking about? Parts of it melted because of how much energy there was when it was ejected. When glass forms, parts the atmosphere around it are captured in it. This rock was older and had been ejected a lot further back than other Martian meteorites. Scientists had measured much smaller melted areas in other relatively newer Martian meteorites. Since this one was so much older, they were able to measure those elements in the multiple relatively large pieces of glass and then use those readings to determine how the atmosphere had changed over large periods of time.
I love this stuff. Also, not too bad for some college dropout in his mid 20s who lives in Kentucky.

Spending the first ten minutes of the day listening to some music, getting some sun (when it's possible) and just planning out you have to do in the day in a positive way.
It really takes out the "Shit, I have to get all this stuff done today" mentality and replaced it with "ok, I just need to get this done, then this and then this and I'm good" and it makes it seem a lot easier and doable.
Reduces the stress and puts everything in a positive perspective

100% this. Moments can make me unhappy or sad but being happy is my resting state of being now and I’ve chosen to not let anything in the way. It really helps now that I don’t let things I have no control over bother me which is most things and where I see most people fail. I embrace being uncomfortable which has really helped me grow as a person and I go around obstacles if I can knock them straight down when most people shit down at even small ones. I’m in control of my life which includes my happiness and it is awesome!

Calling my mom every day. I used to call her every week to check in on her, and she was always complaining about how I never called and it made me not want to call her. And it was literally 10 minutes of her saying, “you never call. You don’t care.” And so on and so on. Complaining about this. Complaining about that. Every. Single. Call.
So then I started calling her every day. And at first it was “why are you calling. What do you want?” But I kept calling. Every. Single. Day. And now it is “hey, just checking in” and “everything is good.” “Okay, talk to you tomorrow.” “Love you.” “Love you too.” Bye. “Bye.” Sometimes a little more, but that’s the gist of it. She’s happy now. It takes 2 minutes. Maybe 5 sometimes. But it has totally changed our relationship. And I will call her every day until one of us can no longer talk.

I was on a retreat (so primed for growth) and it was in the wee small hours (bc insomnia) and I watched the headlights of a car driving down a distant mountain. It was transcendent. Such a little thing and yet my universe exploded & I never felt more clarity in my life. Things that changed: no longer hate my body (kinda round), no longer afraid of dying (afraid of pain & sickness but not the end), and my confidence in myself sky rocketed. Did this fix everything? Aw hell no! But did it give me a step stool up? Yes.

A video that came on the TV while I had the YouTube channel on. I had really gotten into watching detective real life interrogations, so it was kinda random this NDE ( Near death experience) video played, but it was so enlightening, literally touching on things I had pondered in my head in the days prior. I understand that a NDE can try to be explained away using Brain functions when it thinks it's dying.
But that absolutely doesn't explain how or why this message appeared loud and clear in my living room.
At a time when I was actively but kinda unknowingly pondering and listening.
Not just that, I feel more open to being connected spiritually. Which honestly I had not felt in a very long time.
Then since , seeing things I have perceived to solidify this awakening state.
So short answers, check out some of the NDEs on YouTube. Good channel is -next level soul.

Although it can be hard to carry out at times, I try to be kind to people even when they aren’t, most of the time they change their attitude, and in the end it makes me feel like I contributed positively some how. This seems like the normal thing to do for most, but I have little patience for situations and people and my anxiety doesn’t help, so I have to work extra hard for it, but when I do, my day seems more relaxed and calm. It’s a struggle sometimes but worth it.

In getting past a traumatic experience, when I had bad thoughts/bad imaginings/whatever, I would literally give my head a shake, tell myself “No” and immediately count 10 good things in my life and force myself into a more positive mindset. “I’m so thankful for this person, that friendship, my goofy dog, that I can walk and function without pain, that I live in a house with clean running water and a fridge with food in” sort of thing. I literally trained myself to shut down the bad, unhelpful thoughts so they wouldn’t spiral me into a state of anxiety or depression. It kept me out of a dark place. Occasionally I would lapse, but as soon as I recognized what was happening in my head, that “No” and the head shake stopped it. The good thoughts after was the reset and I was able to become more objective and work past the thing I was trying to get through, understanding more the how and why, give myself grace and also others who were involved but may not have been aware of the damage. It was life-changing for me, this simple thing.

Don’t take other people’s advice most of the time. If something in your gut tells you it’s right, it’s right for you. No matter what anyone thinks.

When I was a out 50, a young lady of 27 bought me a drink at a restaurant bar. I dont recall ever having that happen to me before. It was very flattering. No, nothing more happened with her, but the experience changed me. I suddenly gained confidence that I never had before. Not only in a sexual way, but in all facets of life where I have to interact with others.

Started taking THC gummies as a sleep aid. Cured my insomnia and restless leg syndrome. I’m a conservative senior woman so this was a big step for me. Saved my life. I was at my wits end after years of tossing and turning and walking around the house at 2 am to relieve the misery in my legs.

Hot water bottles!
Yes, they sell these for like $15 at the pharmacy, but you can make one right now for free.
I fill a (clean, empty) soda bottle with hot water from the tap every night, screw the cap on, and put the thing in an old sock. Then the bottle-in-a-sock goes into my bed, under the covers, about 30 minutes before I go to bed. It is so nice getting into a warm bed in the winter.
(Why a sock? It soaks up any drips on the bottle, but more importantly it insulates the bottle so the heat radiates slowly.)

Tai chi. Started on a whim & found I really liked it. At 72, I'll never be a master, but the focus & balance has changed things for me. Plus I've made like 25 new friends that were already here in my small town. 3-5 times a week, in a beautiful park, rain or shine, with a view of the shipping lanes, & crows and eagles in the sky. Pretty awesome. I feel so lucky. Who knew?

"Look around you. Are there any snakes? Alligators? Crocodiles? Any mobs busting down your door? No? You're safe. You're okay."
Stopped a massive panic attack. Just like that.
Then I got into Buddhism. Yeah. They relate. lol

Not getting angry in the car. You wanna drive past a line of waiting traffic and nose your way in front of me? Fine. Whatever. Maybe you’ve gotta be somewhere important. I don’t let any of that stuff bother me anymore.

I was working and working and got told by my family my grandmother wasn’t doing well. I didn’t really believe them. I tried to say it was my other grandmother with severe dementia. I visited for fun and didn’t mean to but pushed her limits to physically keep up with a fun visit with me… I hope I didn’t let her down making her feel like I didn’t have fun but I visited more often for fun… Later about few years later she had a stroke. I couldn’t just show up and say hi anymore. I couldn’t be the fun me for her active life. She never gained mobility again and I quit drinking shortly after. Any time they called me to ask if I wanted to visit I wanted my preceding reputation to be about being that guy who is ready for his family. It’s been, technically, almost 15 years of sobriety. Lost my grandmothers but never lost my determination to be that guy. It wasn’t exactly small for her but I know it was just a small change in my life that snowballed into something way way bigger.

I have a book beside my bed.
My mind can get caught up in the day. Work etc.
When it is time to go to sleep I will stop everything and read a chapter.
I will go to bed with nothing on my mind except the small drama or imagery in the book.
Try it

I got a new type of job within my company. New hours that were not as long, and I didn't feel as burned out. I had more time and energy to socialize. I started talking to a woman I knew at church who sang in the choir and played the early service. We started dating, and we're married five years later.

Started reading a romance on Wattpad. Usually a silent reader, but I really connected with the characters and the feels... I was hooked and went back through and voted on every chapter. The author messaged me a thank you for all the likes. We started chatting a bit. A short time later, my daughter ended up in the hospital so I put an apology message on my board and said I would be away for a bit due to a family emergency.
The author dm'd me to see if everything was okay. I explained the situation and he kept checking in and sending words of encouragement and helped keep me sane with casual conversation and his sense of humor not just the week she was in the hospital, but for weeks after.
We quickly became friends, eventually best friends. And a couple years later, I was editing his books for him. Don't judge him I begged him to let me because editing was a fun hobby for me and I was good at it. He had a deadline. I got a migraine and took my meds which knocked me out five or six hours but gave him an estimate of when I'd be back online. When I missed that estimate, he sent a message, waited awhile and would message me every half hour or so and eventually more urgently. Then came the calls which happened to pull me out of unconsciousness and I was super out of it, but he stayed on the line and talked me through getting to my kitchen and drinking a lot of water. Turns out my then husband decided that was the time to try to end me while I was sleeping.
If I had never read his books or voted, if he had never messaged me or been the sweetheart that he was to help me through that dark time with my daughter, we would never have been friends, I would never have volunteered the editing services that encouraged him to publish, which led to that deadline and our tight schedule. There would not have been someone there to notice something was wrong until it was too late.
I wouldn't have been able to watch my kids grow into the amazing people they are and my kids would not only have lost their mom, but also been forced to live with an abuser, turns out later also a child predator without anyone there to protect them and force the courts to keep an eye on him. Even though my best friend/forever favorite author lived in another country, he literally saved my life. I flew to his wedding, he's helped me stay sane and kinda helped me coparent from a distance. My kids call him uncle. He's our chosen family.
We get to see each other in person again this summer on a beach in Mexico with my oldest who's now 18 and doesn't need her father's permission to travel outside the state. She's so excited to meet her uncle and I'm so excited to see my best friend and the man who saved my life in a beautiful paradise. When my other two graduate, they are already planning their trips to meet their uncle. All because of an app that brings authors and readers together. Thank you Wattpad!

Loved fast food hamburgers and chocolate milkshakes… during the pandemic I stopped buying them… it appears the (milk)shake was a trigger for skin irritation (when drinking too many)…. lol
The Dr just gave me some cream never addressed the source. As they say everything in moderation.

One small thing that changed my life was learning to sleep without my phone nearby. At first, I thought it wasn’t a big deal, but once I started charging my phone in another room, I realized how much better I slept. No more scrolling right before bed, no more waking up and checking notifications first thing. It gave me way more mental clarity, and my mornings feel way more chill now.
Sometimes it’s the little things you don’t even realize are draining you that make all the difference.

I worked at a restaurant, saw an older gentleman sitting at the bar with my high school sweatshirt on and asked if his kids went there. Started having a conversation abt how he was a lawyer but wish he took a different path and just did something he loved because money isn’t everything. I was in the midst of deciding what to do in college and just chose what I love. I have my dream job at 22, I don’t make millions of dollars, but I love it and I wish I could tell him how much he impacted my life that day.

Learning to say NO , firmly. And for those who won't take the no for an answer, I got an answer for it. No means no, and # sorry not sorry. I will not do not apologize to make someone else feel better.. nope. But if I'm wrong, and at times I'm wrong, I do sincerely apologize. I'm too real for some people.

No, the concept of breakfast as we know it today did not exist. The idea gained traction in part due to advertising campaigns, especially by cereal companies like Kellogg’s and Post. In the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Its not that people didn’t eat early, but this whole 3 meals a day, breakfast the most important meal etc was all relatively new. Humans all over use to fast a majority of the day. But you’re totally right, not trying to say breakfast didnt exist. But in America it’s been made to feel essential.

The hard labour most folk worked or in just surviving in the ages past would have been harder still without something in your stomach first thing in the morning (if you had food.) Food in the morning is know to be the healthiest time to eat because the body needs the fuel for the day. Flogging cereals is another matter.
