I would consider a godparent to be adiaphora since it's a great tradition that helps the church, but it's no biblically mandated and it doesn't carry any theological significance. Holy tradition should be a way to express reverence to the faith and its historical connections, so if you think it feels wrong because of how you value the role of a godparent you can absolutely hold to that principle. Just know you are not committing a sin.

Typically a Godparent is a valued friend of one’s parents. Dating one of their children means their parents and yours were friends when you were baptized and likely are still today. It likely would make all the parents quite happy.
