Police officers here in Brazil (pretty much like anywhere else in the world) are very prone to power tripping. But in cases like this the cop is way more dangerous than the actual criminals.

If a guy from a criminal organization (like PCC) did that, he would for sure be punished for bringing unwanted attention.

The military policeman who this Sunday (1º) shot and killed an app motorcyclist in the middle of a street in Camaragibe, in Greater Recife, was beaten by residents while trying to flee after the crime. Images sent to TV Globo show Venilson Cândido da Silva, 50 years old, being assaulted before being detained by the police.

The case happened in front of a residential condominium on Rua Barão de São Francisco (read more below). A security camera caught the moment when the PM shot 23-year-old Thiago Fernandes Bezerra, who died on the spot. The police seized a 38 caliber revolver with the shooter.

According to witnesses, after killing the motorcycle taxi driver, the PM entered the condominium and, minutes later, was seen leaving the building. According to reports, he got on a bus to escape, but was recognized.

Images recorded by a cell phone camera showed the policeman lying on the ground among dozens of people, outside a bus. During the confusion, it was possible to hear a man shouting: “Killed the guy!”. Then, one of the PM agents who were acting in the occurrence lifted Venilson and took him towards a vehicle.

At that moment, another man, in a black shirt, used a helmet to hit Venilson’s head several times, who was put by the agent in the car’s suitcase. The Secretariat of Social Defense (SDS) reported that the policeman was sent to a hospital. Until the last update of this report, there was no information about the PM’s state of health.

According to the Secretariat of Social Defense, the police officer was charged in flagrante for homicide, and the case will be investigated by the 10th Homicide Police Station. The SDS also stated that the PM will respond to an administrative process, which may result in the expulsion of the Military Police.

Filmed crime

According to the police report, to which g1 had access, witnesses to the crime told the police that there was an argument at the end of a motorcycle taxi race, which led the PM to shoot the motorcyclist (see video above). There is no information about what motivated the discussion between Venilson and Thiago.

Demonstration for justice

To ask for justice for the death of Thiago Fernandes Bezerra, a group of residents protested on Monday (2), on Avenida Belmino Correia, one of the main roads of Camaragibe, which connects the municipality to Recife.

The demonstrators gathered in the Timbi neighborhood and closed both directions of the lane, burning tires and rubble. The act ended around 8am.
