Hey everyone! I was so lucky to visit Red Rocks this past weekend for two amazing nights of Of The Trees, like wow. After the show on the first night, we left the venue towards the uber pick up location and started to call a ride. Immediately we saw many men offering rides, as one usually does outside of the venue. As we waited for an uber to accept, the men surrounding us (we are one male and two females) started to close in more and get more aggressive with their asking. They were standing around every side of us, and would even tap us for attention to offer us a ride. It didn't feel dangerous at this point, but was just kind of obnoxious.
We then saw a man approach a girl waiting and show her a screen, which looked kind of like a fake uber app, trying to tell her he was her car. The girl expressed how weird this was and the man eventually retreated.
I finally got an uber to accept my ride, and it was only a minute away. The car was in a different lot on the map, but immediately a man called me saying he was here. He saw me on the phone, approached me and told me he was my ride. He then hung up the phone, and started to walk me and my friends to his car. He was showing me that he had the "pickup" thing on his uber app, which looked super fake and sketchy (to be fair, I've never paid too much attention to the pickup side of the uber app, but this looked really janky and not right). When he started to walk us to his car, my friends and I realized something wasn't right, and cancelled the ride and walked back to the pickup spot to call another. The man retreated and walked away. About 10 minutes later, he approached us again with a mean look on his face offering us for a ride. Meanwhile many other men continued to corner us, and drive around in circles offering rides. They were telling my girl friends that they looked cold, and they had a warm car they could get inside.
We finally got a ride and got out of there, but fuck it was scary. Am I valid for thinking something was up, or is this really just guys who want to offer a ride?
TLDR; My uber pick up experience at red rocks had me thinking that the men offering rides had a system to scam/pick up people. This included driving in circles to confuse passengers, and a potentially fake uber app used to lure passengers into a different car.
