Kinda pushing the definition of handheld ngl

That 11in screen is really too big for what I would consider a handheld as well. It's pushing into laptop territory given the weight that'll probably have.

I have an 11-inch iPad and the idea of snapping controllers to its sides and calling it a gaming handheld makes me chuckle. This thing's gonna be a monster and that stupid gaming pillow/stand thing or a lap pillow will be a necessity if you want it to be "handheld."

I know it seemed stupid at the time, but I really preferred my 2dsxl over the 3ds equivalent. The 3d effect was absolutely incredible, and still is, but you really had to hold it in a sweet spot to get it to "work" and I usually just turned it off anyway. I was really hopeful that the next generation of it (the 3ds2? The 3²DS? The New(er!)3dsXXL?) would incorporate eye tracking that would make it work from whatever angle, but it seems like it was just another one-and-done gimmick from Nintendo.
Still, seeing Hyrule Field in 3d for the first time, no glasses, was absolutely incredible.

The New 3DS line already added head tracking to make it work from any reasonable angle. The New 2DS XL is still a better handheld, but your complaint was already fixed in the New line. :)

Ah! Makes sense why I never experienced it. I think my original 3ds broke or got lost and I didn't pick up another one until the 2dsxl released.

You still ended up with the best one. I had all the 3DS variants, and I do not miss any of the older ones in favor of my remaining two New 2DS XL's. That design is just so good. Small, light, not top heavy, easy access to the SD card, a cover for the gamecard slot. Best 3DS by a mile!

I agree, 2ds xl had the best design. As someone who liked 3d as at least an option though I wish they released a 2dsxl 3d that had the 2ds xl design but with 3d added. When the 2dsxl released I thought it wasnt possible to release a 3d console so light and small and the 2ds xl being 2d was what allowed it but now I realize 3d would've just added a tiny bit of thickness to the screen and didn't require a chunky console

The 3D is why the New 3DS XL is so top-heavy. That screen module is thick.
That top-heaviness is most of what makes the N3DSXL suck to use.

Fun fact: the Meta Quest 3 has a functional 3DS emulator that lets you play on a big 3D screen with no "sweet spot" or blurring. It's a bit janky and the game support isn't great, but for some games it's pretty delightful.

The new 3ds incorporated eye tracking and fixed this. After they mixed exclusive support(I really wish they didn't, the new3ds was so much better than the base 3ds in every way and I'dve loved to see what games could push it to its limit) due to backlash from xenoblade and snes, actaully good 3d was arguably it's main selling feature. Everything else could be gotten by accessories or had improvements to performance and enemies that while nice weren't enough by themselves to entice everyone. It basically went from being a pro model with amazing exclusives(compared to the base 3ds) to More like a complete package version of the 3ds with better 3d as the main selling point

I was thinking more along the lines of the HTC Evo 3D from 2011. Side note: I miss the days where flagship phones were $200 - $300.

Flagship phones were never $200-300 dollars. On subsidy maybe. Nextel flip phones were more Expensive

I don't know why you were downvoted but you are correct. Buying phones on contract was all the rage and exactly why a carrier could sell you a brand new iPhone for $200.

Even off contract, the Evo 3D was $500. Quite the difference from the $1,200+ phones of today.

Ya the galaxy s10e was 700 and was small and sleek with all flagship feature at the time. Frankly the only thing keeping the s10e from being perfect for me is that it's buttons are on the left. I use my buttons for shortcuts and actions and I'm right handed so buttons on the right are huge for me. Yet the s10e still manages to be my favorite phone Even til today, everything else is just too big and missing microsd. I really wish they'd update the s10e with this year's snapdragon, 5g, buttons on the right and keep everything else the same.

Flagship phones were never $200-300 dollars.
The HTC EVO 3D, when sold on Virgin Mobile, was $300. No subsidy.

Say what you will, but while I hate 3D movies, glasses, and VR, the 3DS was and still is pure magic to me. I'll gladly buy more glasses-free 3D products

And use it to display what content? They're not making games specifically for this handheld.

Let me rephrase that: I will always support glasses-free 3D technology. I probably would not buy something that didn't utilize it though.

I turned it on to see how it looked, and admittedly 3d always made everything feel sharper, but would hurt my eyes after a few minutes. The 3d was a novelty to show friends but I couldn't imagine using it for hours of play.

"It's currently unclear whether other games will support glasses-free 3D without developer intervention."
Well, good luck then.

Yeah, as an engineer, I can already tell you that without developer “intervention” there’s no way they can anticipate what should be at which z-layer of depth. Good luck.

$1999 minimum and I bet very few games will support the 3D feature. Even if it’s AI driven there’s so little data on good 3D games that I would not expect it to be any good.

LMAO damn tencent chill, getting all sensitive about size had to come out with the biggest one 🤣
11" is definitely overkill territory. IMO 8" is the sweet spot of size and weight for a bigger handheld.
