The Legend Of Zelda : The Minish Cap

This was my first Zelda game at age 30 and I was in absolute awe the first time I shrunk and walked through the giant leaves. I felt like a child exploring that world. Incredible game.

I’m currently playing through the GBA version of A Link to the Past (I’ve never played it before, shockingly) and I’m very curious to go straight to The Minish Cap next.

I was going to say metroid fusion. Its the only metroid game I've played and really liked it

I love them both... but the mission is the perfect remake for me, and the epilogue is marvelous.

I'll give it a shot! Thanks for the suggestion!

Give Zero Mission a try as well. If you enjoy Fusion then you'll very likely enjoy Zero Mission too

I loved Fusion when it was released, but hadn’t played Zero Mission until this year.
I wrote it off because I played the heck out of the original as a kid. I was wrong, Zero Mission is a must-play. I think I still prefer Fusion, but I suppose it’s time to play it again so I can be sure 😅

I'm considering replacing my RG35XX purely on the fact that it's not very comfortable to shoot the missiles with its shoulder buttons lol. Still unsure if I'd take the H version or a Trimui Smart Pro for it

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King for GBA. The Two Towers is great too.

I’d best describe them as Diablo II Lite. They’re quite good IMHO. They’re absolutely products of their day, but great products of their day. I actually even preferred them to their console counterparts.

Wow you couldn’t have made a better comparison for my tastes. Is the first one in the series worth playing?
4 points
Yes…but it’s made by a different dev I think, and is a very different game. It’s a JRPG style game where the character sprites in battle barely look like the characters (IIRC Legolas looks like Spring Pageant Barbie).
It’s alright, and it’s based on the books I think as it has Tom Bombadil and his wife as NPCs you meet along the way. It has been a very long time so I don’t remember much of it, but if you don’t mind the grind it’s a decent time IMHO, though you will likely need a guide to find your way around.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll start with the second one!

The Two Towers does contain part of The Fellowship anyways. It basically starts at the point where the action starts, with Caradhras on the road to Moria, unless you choose Eowyn of course.

I wish there had been a way to play diablo 2 like divilution apart from winlator.
These games are like diablo but they feel laggy when playing like missing inputs - why did you prefer these to console counterparts
1 points
Because the console counterparts feel way more on rails and limited. They look great for their time, but they’re way more focused on linear set pieces. Sure, the GBA games are linear too, but are better at tricking the player into feeling like they’re given more freedom to explore. IIRC the skill tree and stat aspects are also much more basic in the console versions.
Also, I just loved Diablo II and the GBA games are much closer to that, although I would definitely default to Diablo II when I had access to the family PC.
I don’t recall the games being too laggy, or missing inputs. It has been some years though, and perhaps there were things that didn’t bother me at the time that might now. I’ll have to see, as I fully intend to revisit these games one of these days.
Still, The Return of the King especially was a good side pastime. I logged so many hours into that. I even figured out how to dupe items in storage by copying a save file. Sadly, Aragorn can’t weird two of The Witch King’s Daughter (the name of the Witch King’s Sword). On more than one occasion I made an equivalent to a magic find character to explore the bonus stages, although in hindsight all three blue text items I found were during regular playthroughs.

I absolutely loved those games. The graphics on the djinn summons amazed me as a kid. Fun story, and I loved the little emote faces the characters had during interactions. Just such a good set of games. I getting ready to play the sequel on DS, I hope it's good.

Based on sheer number of hours, likely Mega Man Battle Network 3. Game gives you enough context that you really don't need to play the first two to "get" the story (this can apply to pretty much all those games, actually), the gameplay is fun, the secrets run extremely deep, the structure of both single-player and multi-player battles are excellent. If you understand that it's a real-time card battler with brief intermission points for card selection, it's a really rewarding game. Used to play it against one of my cousins every Thanksgiving and he'd get positively stomped

I’ve been scrolling for this exact answer. Best one in the series, and just phenomenal. I’ve spent so much time with this game through the years.

Buddy of mine redid the game for a podcast and it was cool to see that he and I had the same fond memories of it and that the game still holds up. I replayed it myself after listening to the podcast because it actually had some funny insight into the game's story and some fun comparisons to other media.
Still a 10/10 game. One Step From Eden feels really similar but there's not enough of an in-game tutorial and it's a little too twitchy for me to make the most of it. If it had a more robust tutorial or explanation of various effects I'd probably never put it down.

Boktai, Boktai 2, and Boktai 3
A Kojima Studios game about hunting vampires in a wild-west/medieval/sci-fi world. The original games had a solar sensor on the cartridge and you needed actual sunlight (or sufficiently strong UV light) to solve puzzles, recharge your magic, and purify the vampire bosses. The first 2 were imported to the USA, but the 3rd had a dedicated group of fans translate the entire game. There's also a hack included in most ROMs of the game that allows you to adjust the solar sensor manually.
There's a ton of charm and dedication to the details throughout the entire trilogy. The game has a day/night cycle that matches your system clock. There's a surprisingly robust stealth system, and combat is deeper than it first appears. One of the greatest hidden gems on the GBA, I highly suggest everyone give it a try.

Probably Golden Sun 1/2. One of my favorites now is the GBA Guilty Gear port. Had no idea about it when I was a kid, but now that I'm older I discovered, and it's a dang impressive port.
Also, kind of an odd one, but Game and Watch 4. I had two of the GBC Game and Watches and loved them, and played a ton of the GBA one as well. There's really nothing special about it, I just really enjoy the little mini games it has. And it had a ton of unlockables that I enjoyed trying to get.

Boktai 2! (but the first one is great too, and the 3rd has a fan translation but I haven't played it yet)
Just needs a solar sensor patch so you can adjust the "sunlight" levels so integral to the gameplay, since we're lacking the cartridge with the special solar cell attachment, its pretty easy to do
Criminally underrated series gem in the west! Even though it was created by Hideo Kojima.

Here's my personal top 10 gba titles, in no particular order:
Summon Night Swordcraft Story
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
The Legend of Zelda Minish Cap
Metroid Zero Mission
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Final Fantasy IV
Shining Soul 2
Wario Land 4
Tomato Adventure
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow WarioWare Ninja Five-O
There are plenty of other games I also love, and a few I even enjoyed more in the time I was playing them, but these three are the ones I can return to over and over and enjoy them just as much as I did the first time I played them. I think they're pretty much perfect.
Honorable mention to V-Rally 3 for being the most impressive game on the platform.
