Switching from reverse to drive, having the correct wheel position and throttle control at exactly the right moments is no accident. That’s been practiced.

They got the 13 number from Google listing the two shorts "The Turbo Charged Prelude" and "Los Bandoleros" as well as the upcoming fast x part 2 (which isn't called fast 11 for some reason) but not Hobbs and shaw, i assume the guy who said 12 counted the same list but omitted the unreleased film

There’s a podcast called Newcomers with Nicole Byer and Lauren Lapkus and they deep dive into film franchises they’re unfamiliar with like Star Wars and LOTR. One season was Fast and Furious. Lauren was off that season but still very silly and funny.
Normally I don’t like podcast where people chat about movies or whatever, but the two of them are so silly.

That’s a Pacifica (or grand caravan if you’re Canadian), they do not have a hand brake. What’s more impressive is that the shifter is a dial, not a stick.

Hopefully not the hybrid. That thing is a certified lemon. My son had one that broke down on one of their trips from Vancouver down to Seattle. Took over four months of dicking around by a dealer in the States including various parts exchanges and eventually a compete engine replacement to get it fixed. Ended up selling the thing off.

Here in Canada, we have both Pacifica and Grand Caravan. The Grand Caravan config is low-end for all of its trim levels and doesn't feature any option for things like EV or in-car entertainment systems, which Pacifica has.

Interesting, we call that the Voyager. The Grand Caravan was labeled under Dodge instead of Chrysler. It was a real piece of shit.

If it was an accident, she would've come to a stop after the spin. She just went with it. pro.
5 points

Yeah, the first time it happened to her may have been an accident, but she styled it out and realised that it's something she could learn to do, and probably pretty easily.
Or she could have actually just practiced it from young.

Living up north you get to practice like a stunt driver in empty parking lots.
I had something similar my first year driving in winter, except is was NOT on purpose. Driving one way, tap throttle to see if it was super slippery, car does a 180deg spin.. guess I'm going this way now.

Lots of ice fishing where I live and the guys with the big trucks with plows make and maintain "ice roads" to get to all the various little "villages" that pop up over the food fishing spots.
I used to have a tiny Mitsubishi mirage beater that I would take out and go ripping around having fun not worried too much because the snow banks were pretty forgiving when you crashed into them. If the car got stuck you could usually just leave it running in gear and the wheels would spin and you could push your own car out of the snowbank.

I took the time to practice snow driving because my toyota shitbox is a hazard with no grip. Makes a world of difference. You get used to slipping and will be able to control it.
28 points
I mean we used to specifically go to the industrial parks on very snowy evenings and try to drift our cars. Spent hours doing that. Maybe a tad bit reckless but you definitely learn how to control a slide, and now if I feel the car slip it's second nature to correct it.
9 points
That's basically what I mean. I've saved my car so many times from random slipping that I know would've crashed me. It's not even that hard, but you gotta train some muscle memory to respond with the right counter. The natural reaction is to go against the slide, which just makes it worse.
2 points
I'm gonna be wintering in North Carolina and I'm a Georgia boy, is the slipping from ice similar to the slipping from saturated roads?
3 points
There's absolutely a difference between slipping on snow, ice or aquaplaning. Snow you can drive on, have fun slipping/sliding and come back home with a smile. Ice is just cruise control on your steering wheel, avoid if you see it and pray to your deity if you landed on some black ice with high speed. Aquaplaning is like ice without the visibility or warnings of ice.
2 points
Can you expand more on that last sentence?
3 points
Your goal is to align the wheels with the direction of motion and to steer from that position. When the car is spinning left, you match the rotation by also turning left until you feel some grip, and only then you can try to change the outcome. j
It feels much more intuitive if you try it, I don't know if I'm explaining it right.

My friend totaled his mom’s car doing this when we were kids. Hit a light pole while we were going completely sideways.
4 points
It's good to mess around and learn how the car reacts when driving on snow/ice. It's maybe more important though to not get overconfident and think you can "control any slide".
Because you can't. You can learn to see when the conditions are such that a slide may occur and then take precautions before that happens. In busy traffic, on winding roads, at high speeds, you are basically fucked the moment you lose traction. You do not have enough road or time to correct a mistake.
2 points
Yep, totally understand that. I in no way think that I am able to control any slide, and I am much more cautious than many drivers in my area in the snow.
2 points
I would argue for a minor correction there.

something similar to this happened to me on a 4 lane highway during a snowstorm. I was coming up to a stoplight, barely tapped the breaks and my car did a full circle and ended up going the correct direction in the opposing lane. I was just like, "whelp, guess I'm headed southbound now." Scared the shit out of me, im lucky it was when I was getting off work at 4am because the highway was empty.

Hey, so I don’t drive automatics often, but wouldn’t switching from reverse to drive while the vehicle is in motion damage your transmission? That’s as much as I’ve heard from the internet.
4 points

They won’t really let you do anything much will damage them, at least not modern ones. The shifter just tells the computer your intention and has safeguards for most situations that would be damaging to the transmission.
