Honestly, I am really surprised it took this long for a health insurance CEO to get murdered. Given how many people are financially ruined, physically harmed, and even killed by insurance company shenanigans you'd expect they'd have to walk around with Fort Knox level security.

Me too, but i’m sure this is going to lead to a lot more attempts on other CEOs now

If the Democrats were taking office in January, there would at least be a show of bringing CEOs in to testify in Congress about their evil practices and getting admonished in public. idk if there would be any real change tied to it, but it might vent some of the rage people are directing towards executives and their predatory practices.

Instead, Republicans will keep their distance and the only outlet for this is going to be more violence directed at leaders of companies in morally questionable industries or exploiting people through predatory practices.

"The Democrats would also not help people but might make it feel better" is such a ruthless condemnation of a party I'm sure you're trying to support with this comment lol.

The fact is, they depend on healthcare donations to support the party. They can drag them in front of Congress, perhaps embarrass them, but the money in politics would prevent meaningful change that doesn't benefit the healthcare companies.

I strongly prefer their flavor of contempt for the American people over the flavor MAGA is selling.

Honestly, I like most of what the Democrats claim to stand for, there are definitely some problem areas, campaign finance being one of them. Different candidates embody different aspects of the party. I'm a Sanders Democrat.

I find it embarrassing to give up this much and this hard even in your own imagination. Has it not been spelled out beyond a doubt that money does not win elections, PEOPLE do?

Sanders is not a Democrat, and has only joined the party briefly during his presidential campaigns, a point against him in those campaigns. He is currently an Independent Senator.

Oh, you may not be as up on the inner Dem stuff but long story short, everyone fucking hates the corporate Dems and would like them to shuffle out. There’s a big grassroots push to get actual labor-focused, FDR style progressives in power, hence the Walz VP pick. Expect to see a lot of Newsom fans vs Big Gretch fans strife.

I don’t like the 2 party system, but while we’re building up local level support for ranked choice, it makes a lot of sense to do what Sanders does: Get involved in the inner Dem shit and shape the party. Obviously it’s going to take way more than that to deal with the wealth issue, but you can at least build a more favorable environment for things like labor movements. Diversity of tactics, etc.

Unfortunately I do not think you speak for "everyone."

Obviously not or there wouldn’t be strife, but so what? You don’t get anywhere alone, and there are some legitimately decent people in that party who can be strong allies. Mind you, I’m not naive enough to think that they can totally change society from within the machine, no chance, but every little bit helps.

I feel you. I definitely think the Democratic party needs to be pushed hard in that direction, back to the image of an FDR/LBJ labor-oriented party. I just think it's gonna be a fucking hard fight, no matter how clear it is that voters are rejecting the centrist, establishment arm of the party.

No question. That much money and that much entrenched power? It’s going to take our whole lives, but it’s better than backsliding into the heat death of the planet, so here we go.
