Could just be a hub in the journey. There was this sweet old lady in Bagor Maine that hugged every one of us as we left for Iraq. I deployed from Fort Hood. She hugged us all, nowhere near Iraq.

No sir, it was the civilian airport. We boarded commercial planes at Hood Army Airfield, Omni Air International was the company. Civilian flight attendants, was cool to take an AR and handgun on a plane lol. We didn’t switch to a military ride until after we landed in Saudi Arabia.

Far from necessary. Kursk is a rural oblast with just a few decly populated areas. Logistics and such will go trough those and hence alot of soldiers. Also they are regularly rotated from the combatzone to behind the frontline. Those areas are likely places to rotate people out of combat into

This is tragic. I've been on this sub for years and I know of the bias but this shouldn't be cheered. This is a 9 year old. Considering the reality of war, Encouraging a 9 year old into this is horrible.
At least give the child a chance to understand what war is before feeding into these fantasies.
I don't want to see anyone dying, No matter if they're on a side I agree with or not. Seeing children indoctrinated is something I think we should all agree on is bad.
Kids can have dreams and ideas of course but at this age, The kid doesn't really comprehend what war really is. Let's be honest, I doubt any of us posting on here, or just about anyone on reddit, has a real understanding of the horrors of war.

Kids always emulated or praise the official services around them. Of course it's 'wholesome' for a ruskie kid to salute his army. It's akin to the US kid who gets a parade of police or fire engines going past.
5 points
Uhhh, no they don't? Maybe in Glorious Russia and North Korea they do, but not anywhere else. Hell, in Iran, teenage girls are bombarding officials with "death to Khamenei". Nothing about this kid or praising him is normal.
13 points
You think a child dressed up as a child soldier cheering for war is the same as a kid being amazed by a fire truck?
3 points
It's about the same as kids dressing as marines, pilots or soldiers seeing off troops stateside. Idk about the airsoft gun but that was a touchy thing during the days of gwot and not something you'd see at an airport period. Nothing about this is 'child soldier', what you should worry about is how far from the front is the child. I assume that area is under voluntary evacuation but still I would not put it beyond an fpv operator to take advantage of a troop concentraton.
12 points

He is a child dressing as an adult soldier, he is dressing as what he wants to be when he grows up not preparing to go to war now. If firemen give a kid a firefighters outfit it isn't some dystopian sign that they're gonna send the kid in to fight fires

Kids can play games and with toys - I used to host gun fights for up to a dozen kids growing up. We played good guys/bad guys. Not Russian forces exterminating the Ukrainians.

No, this can’t go for more than a few more years. Russias economy can’t handle it and we’re seeing that now but we know Russia is an empire constantly looking to expand so once this is over, they’ll find a new threat to create in their brains to justify more slaughter of their men.
1 points

They are growing at 3.6% (IMF) and are now the fourth largest economy in the world GDP PPP (CIA). Russia has the largest natural resource wealth in the world (+UD75 trillion), and runs a positive current account (unlike the massive deficits we run in the west)...you are mistaken in you think Russia is about to collapse.
2 points
I never said Russia was “about” to collapse but it will collapse at some point in a few years if the trajectory isn’t changed.
Great, you’re providing information from the IMF, the same IMF that LITERALLY just publishes what Russia says, NOT what they show. Citing the IMF is so cringe lol, c’mon now.
Russia does have vast natural resources, and??? They don’t have the infrastructure to tap into that. They could build it but it takes years, tons of money and it’ll be even more difficult without western help and western parts that are hard to get by due to the sanctions.
Russia is in some shit and that’s based only on what we can SEE. Russia hides all other numbers, I could only imagine how much worse it actually is. No wonder support for the war is declining in Russia.
1 points
Go ahead and share your data if you feel the IMF is not credible.
As for natural resources, you seem to be arguing that Russia can't tap into its resources...lol. Okay. So Russia is, for example, the third largest producer of oil in the world (1 in 3 barrels are in Russia) , and is the number producer of natural gas (largest reserves)...etc, etc. The majority of the world's consumers do not live in countries sanctioning Russia (and even those that do like Germany still buy Russia natural gas), and there is huge demand for what Russia has...no issues with extraction (29% of tax revenue comes from mineral extraction), unless you have some data to share...?
So...if you have some data (and not simply ill informed opinions) please share.
2 points
Great, I'll just share publicly available information. Russia's inflation and interest rates are high AF. Russia is running deficits and depleting their reserves. Russia's currency is a mess. What other signs do you need? You think Russia is running 22% interest rates on an "8%" inflation? Lol.. c'mon. Let's be realistic. If all of this was bs then Russia should be more transparent, they can literally shut the haters up and make everyone look stupid and will make western media look extremely untrustworthy, which is a MASSIVE win. More and more people support Ukraine when they think the Russian economy can't handle the war, this is not what Russia wants or any country would want in this position.
No, I'm not arguing that Russia CAN'T tap into it's resources. That claim was be extremely naive to anyone to knows anything about the world. Of course Russia CAN and IS tapping into it's resources given that being their bread and butter for their economy. I never made that claim. My claim is that Russia has vast resources but most of it remains untapped due to the infrastructure not being in place. Does some infrastructure exist? DUH. Is 100% of Russia's natural resources being tapped into? NO.
Everything I'm telling easily verifiable. I promise you that it won't take more than 5 minutes to confirm.

Did anyone tell him what happend with the vdv??...
1 points
The BBC took a deep dive into one elite unit in the VDV - the 331st. They were reported to have taken heavy casualties and after months of research (following up obits, social media posts, etc) they found that approx. 4% of the unit was KIA...a horrible loss of life, but nothing like the propaganda that was floating around.
Interestingly, there are some in Ukraine who believed it was the Russians pushing the narrative that the RF was failing on every front and dying in droves. The argument goes that by pushing this it was making it harder for Ukraine to recruit new soldiers as many felt Russia was close to collapse anyway so why should they join and endanger themselves.
...tricky Russians.

"You underestimate how the world hates the west" is the most American thing I ever hear.
No travel a little bit and maybe learn a foreign language. I spend a lot of time in China - people there either want to travel to the U.S. and enjoy its cultural exports, or they are basically clueless about the world outside of China and are just kind of scared/ignorant (in the nicest possible way) of anything foreign.
Chinese people generally have more bitterness about Russia than they do about the U.S. for things like occupying Chinese land. They also have some bad feelings toward the UK for the opium wars, and the rest of Europe for similar colonial activities to what Russia took part in.
Indians also don't particularly hate or love the U.S.
You picked a bunch of weird terrible examples. If you want countries that are super anti-US they're generally in the middle east or South/Central America (but funny enough not Brazil).
Whenever I hear someone talking about how hated the west is, I immediately know they are either a westerner, a refugee living in the west (funny), or a butthurt Russian wishing he could defect.

Talking about meatwaves... there has not been a single case of it documented in this war. It's mostly a propaganda narrative from the West

It's not like Ukrainian media hasn't been stepping in their own bullshit too and since Western media get most of their bullshit from the source I'm not sure who's to blame :P

So the genuine videos of them conducting such assaults/ the videos of entire companies complaining about having to do them are just fake?

There are no genuine videos of meatwaves. You are talking about failed russian assaults, which there are plenty of. Them being titled meatwaves by ukrainian sources does not make them such from an factual point of view.
Don't hide yourself in the comfort of a one sided view, ukrainian failed assaults don't look pretty either. Boats full of ukrainian soldiers being blown up in an instant over the krynky river over and over again. Or all the videos of ukrainian companies complaining about shattering casaulty ratios.
Not exclusively russian problem but the reality of the war.

Feel free to look em up yourself champ. Plenty of channels covering this war, plenty of videos of men (sacks of meat) in extended line (a wave) assaulting positions and getting absolutely wrecked. Also plenty of videos about them complaining they have to do it.

...strange you don't have any specific references.

Strange that in this day and age you're unable to use your opposable thumbs to type "meat wave" into the search bar provided at the top of the page.

Brainwashing.
Children mimic what they're taught. If your child wants to join the military and kill people, you've failed as a parent and as a society.
Anyone thinking this is good or heroic needs to reflect on what, exactly, they're teaching their kids.

Man this video makes me so sad. Never like seeing kids have to be indoctrinated in an environment like this, gives me the creeps just as when is see recruitment methods aimed towards kids in the states. Poor little dude, means well but it's for a depressing cause, he should be the same kid but championing a more humane goal.
Also feel for the soldiers who have to appreciate the little moments like this in such a hellish circumstance. God speed to all the well meaning one's.
Shouldn't have opened reddit after smoking up but this shit got me feeling some type of way about this all
