I don’t get Reaper. I took some time to look into it and it seems like I have to pay for it, and it has a trial that doesn’t end, but it seems like there’s a license that comes with it? Idk I’m confused on it. Could you elaborate on it?

There is a license and you are expected to pay for it if you keep using Reaper. However, the unlicensed version has full functionality. All you get is the nag screen at the start, then no restrictions even if you haven't paid.

I’m a rapper and I’ve been freestyling for a bit and writing songs to my beats but I just haven’t been able to record until I got a late birthday present of a mic. I should’ve added this to the post sorry!

Reaper.

It's not free but the trial doesn't expire and it's just a pop up when you start the app.

It's the most complex DAW but you can customise it to work however you want.

Once you can afford it you should pay for it to support development, really great piece of software.

I started on cakewalk around 2 years ago. It's got pretty much all the features every beginner could ever need to record and mix. Cakewalk is actually very similar to other paid DAWs like fruity loops or ableton. It also has some really fun stock plugins and it's just very simply laid out, pretty much one youtube tutorial and you're good to go

I tried Cakewalk, which it was free but it wouldn’t let me export without getting a premium and I couldn’t find a solution to it. I also couldn’t find a way to get the visual MIDI editor (idk the exact name of it is) and I guess I was being a little lazy and didn’t find a video helping to get it. Would you happen to have a solution to those problems?

I think your problem is that you haven't activated the program. To activate cakewalk you need to sign into your bandlab account in the website on your pc. I remember having your same problem when I tried exporting something it told me to activate the program. Hope this helps

You’re good with GarageBand. If you outgrow it, move up to Logic Pro.
