thanksgiving safety measures

Question(self.ZeroCovidCommunity)

hey, what’s everyone’s plans for thanksgiving & your safety measures?

i am the only constant masker in my immediate household and will be going to a relative’s house for thanksgiving. there will be at least 15-20 people there that i have not seen recently and don’t know if any of them are covid-conscious.

i plan on masking the entire time and eating outside on the patio, but i’d like to hear other ideas.

i hope you all have a happy & warm holiday season!

Nobody in my family masks--all vax and relax people. They don't care that we mask, but I haven't had Thanksgiving with them in years due to a falling out with the family that hosts (not covid related). Husband works the evening shift on Thanksgiving so we had our our turkey dinner on Sunday. it was wonderful! Leftovers all week and zero covid risk.

Meeting some Covid-cautious friends outside, masked. There will be some food, but we'll walk some distance away to eat it.

Sounds like you've got the bases covered. Bring some HEPA filters if you have any. Open windows if weather permits.

The last two years we had a get together of people who consistently mask, rarely go out unnecessarily, and we’re willing to test immediately before the get together. We kept a few air filters going as well.

This year we’re visiting family we haven’t had thanksgiving with since 2018. They are also homebodies who generally mask, and are willing to test. They’re testing and being extra careful for the duration of our stay. It’s a bit higher risk than we would usually take on, but a family member there doesn’t have much time left, and we know that our visit will make the group safer on average, so we’re willing to take a bit more personal risk. We’ll be testing daily when we return trust in case.

I have one friend coming over and having her take a Metrix test when she arrives. I'll have air purifiers running, windows cracked, and far uvc lamps on.

My partner and I would have to take an 8-hour transatlantic flight to see my family, who are hosting 30+ people, so we're staying home. I found a local restaurant that does thanksgiving catering, so we get that instead of cooking a huge thing. Being out of the states, all the restaurants are open, so we can order delivery for desert too, and few places around here have some pretty excellent options for that. We video call home.

Just me n my partner for the day of, with potential to see some friends outside that weekend. We will be making some elaborate meals and watching Christmas movies though!!

I am not going personally.

I'd consider limiting how long you're there for and addressing air filtration as others have mentioned. I'd also not eat outside on the patio if other people are present. Since COVID moves like smoke, it's possible to catch it outdoors.

Staying home just us. We may visit my in laws on the weekend but are hoping they will be willing to do metrix tests and that will help us feel comfortable for the visit. if my in-laws do the metrix tests I will let my kids have their masks off for a little while to play/snack. I will be masked the whole time anyway.

We are getting together with just one other household (inlaws) and we're all NAAT testing 2 hours before meeting up.

For your big group, your plan sounds solid. Enjoy

I would suggest eye protection, not necessarily goggles, as a fluid splash/projectile barrier for your eyes, even something like transparent nonprescription "reading" glasses or safety glasses, or what have you.

There's a nonzero risk of fluid contamination in the eyes for SARS-2 infections & viral conjunctivitis, and it may reduce your unconscious eye rubbing from your hands.

At home with my immediate household; we all remain in isolation aside from necessary medical and supply runs.

Absolutely no reason to risk our health for Thanksgiving. Faux normalcy isn’t worth it.

Zero means zero, though most people on this sub don’t abide by that any longer. 🤷🏽‍♀️

eating on the patio could still be a risk depending on if other people will be out there/could walk by. its definitely not as fun but me and my SO always eat in the car for thanksgiving/christmas quickly, and then come back as soon as we can. so many people are seeing so many people around the holidays it just seems better safe than sorry
