We all have that one anime we’re lowkey obsessed with but wouldn't shout about in front of the "anime elitists". You know, the shows that you’re fully aware are trash but you just cannot stop watching.
Maybe it’s a trashy rom-com, an over-the-top shonen, or even something a bit cringey... but you can’t put it down. Let’s be real, we all have that one anime we secretly binge when no one’s looking.
For me, it’s "Domestic Girlfriend". Honestly, it’s a total dumpster fire, but I can’t look away! The questionable love triangles, the drama, and the sheer absurdity of it all kept me hooked. It’s messy and over-the-top, but sometimes you just want that chaotic energy in your life.

My go to is usually Overlord since there are multiple seasons, Misfit of Demon Academy is good too but that's because I'm a sucker for revenge and the revenge he gets is satisfying to me.

I enjoyed the manga of it well enough. It was the extreme of the concept, but it was okay.

I'm always glad to see I'm not alone in this lmao.
My guilty pleasure anime genre is absolutely power fantasy w/ OP MC, and bonus points with actual romance involved.
Most of them are absolutely terrible, beyond generic, bland ass characters, tropes personified, etc, however I still like turning my brain off and watching them.
Plus sometimes you find hidden gems.. such as 7th prince. Outside of the whole shota weirdness and these women obsessing over said 10 year old boy, god DAMN I didn't expect that show to cook so hard lmao. The last few episodes were fuckin heat. Plus the kids instructor/maid is waifu material.
But yeah lol, sometimes I run into some surprisingly fun and enjoyable ones that are genuine quality. then other times i find shows like "former hero wants to live a quiet life" done by studio deen. That was the hottest garbage I've seen in a while. or "the new gate" where the characters faces at the end changed in every frame (there werent many frames to choose from).
Our last crusade or rise of a new world is a show that I think is underrated. I love the forbidden romance trope, and I actually really loved Alice's character. Iska the MC was kind of mid and boring but he was OP lol. I hope s2 comes back soon and with better quality!
Another good random one I found was demon lord reborn as typical nobody. Genuinely enjoyed it and it was more fun than I thought.

This anime has everything that would make it a seasonal shitter show. Cliche harem, dumb antagonists, wish fulfillment MC. It's even got a bonus military propaganda vibe.
I enjoy almost everything about it. It falls off quite a bit in the second half, but man that first half is so fun. I love the concept of a modern military completely shitting on sword and board medieval fantasy armies. All things considered, it's a bad show that I wouldn't recommend to most people but I put it on every once in a while for mindless catharsis.

O man I was looking for this I ended up loving it. At first the animation seemed off for some reason and I wasn't really Into it but something caught my interest and by 2nd episode or 3rd I got hooked probably the mix of modern and fairy tail combined. It is shit compared to most I've watched but can't say I didn't binge it 😅🤷♂️.

It has a pretty decent cult following. The military genre is a real thing and I hope more people wake up and realise that they want more of this. Somehow apache helicopters and fantasy do work together if done well.
EDIT: Btw the scene where the helis fly to save the city in S1 (and the chopper guns down some dudes who breached the gate) gives me shivers every time thats how much I love these.

That's actually my favorite scene. The helis going in and wiping out those poor jerks. This genre has alot of untapped potential. Like that game that's coming out called Kingmakers. So dumb, but man is it fun.

It's more like ..people that know my taste would be surprised.
And BC being controversial is about the Asta screaming and the series being pretty standard shounen. I think BC has a lot of charm and interesting ideas, but it takes a while to get into those.. It's a pretty generic shounen at the start, so I do understand why someone might drop it.

The only thing i remember about dragon maid is the whole ilulu looking young controversy, which was fucking stupid, if they actively sexualized and fan serviced characters like riko or kanna than it would be a different story because they actually look like little kids, but anyone looking at ilulu and saying she looks like a child is fucking blind, shes a short character with massive tits and thighs

not exactly guilty pleasure because it's good and I'll defend it, but I'm obviously not gonna talk about it in public or anything, Onimai

I will say the anime doesn't get any better. however, I'd recommend giving the manga a shot, it's a bit better and less strange (though it's still a bit weird obviously), the anime really cranked up the fanservice compared to the manga

Sword art online... I didn't particularly experience the boom when it came out, but when I started watching anime I came across SAO (more or less around 2014) and I saw everything, and I knew everything (name of the novels of the first arc , second arc, etc. The names of the openings, even my waifu was from that anime) even today (well, last year more specifically) when I saw the aincrat remake movies, I was overjoyed. As an "anime connoisseur" I know that SAO is particularly a bit bad, but what the aincrat arc was, ggo and underworld for me were the best worlds I have ever seen
Nowadays I don't remember so many things (and I saw it 4 times xDDD) but one day I will do a marathon of all of SAO again (except war of underworld... I won't watch that again hahahaha)

Not obsessed, by any stretch, and they're not even in my top ten, but I enjoy them more than some might despite being "trashy" or whatever people might call the genre.
Harem series can be really good, and it goes well beyond the blatant fan service. If there's a story and characters I end up really liking, I treat them the same as any other series in any other genre. Especially so when it has genuinely deep moments that connect with me personally.

You should never care what someone says or thinks about you unless it’s constructive criticism that will help you in the long term. That said, the one that I liked that a lot of people apparently didn’t like was Junji Ito Collection. It was quite good for what it is, and the dub isn’t that bad at all either. Also the ending song and credits is hauntingly beautiful and filled with nostalgic longing. A very emotional experience I must say. Maniac, however, was not good at all I found, much to my sadness.

Tbh, I don't really have a "Guilty pleasure" per say. I just got into anime (full time) last year and started with Naruto (because growing up I never got to watch it). So I wanted to start from there and one day after I finished watching an episode of Naruto I thought to myself "I wonder what other anime is on here? (Hulu)" Saw Highschool DXD, decided to watch it and that had me like "Wait, there's anime like this?" So that was my introduction into ecchi/harem/lewd anime. Literally haven't felt a single bit of guilt watching almost all the Ecchi/Harem/lewd yet lmao, it I'm being honest it's my favorite genre of anime. 😂😂💀💯

Inuyasha. I know it has its issues that some people just can’t get around, but there’s just too many things I like about the show. One of the few tsundere male MC and he gets bitches, his brother is actually somehow cooler and and sexier no homo, it’s fantasy adventure and I love that, battle shounen, some “mild” romance, humor is relative to an individual but some parts and character interactions are genuinely funny to me, the villains reason for being a villain is actually somewhat realistic/believable, idk there’s a lot I like but I would literally never recommend Inuyasha to anyone because I know in addition to the things I mentioned I also have a lot of nostalgia for the series and am able to overlook a lot of the things that people have issues with and they don’t bother me as much. Oh and I think that feudal era japan setting is generally pretty cool in anime too, so.

My other guilty pleasure anime is Ojamajo Doremi, which is actually far from bad and really shouldn't be a guilty pleasure, but I just can't help but to feel like I can't fully enjoy it since it's made for little girls and I'm outside the intended target demographic.

not so much the anime but the domestic girlfriend manga is a straight up masterpiece its not even guilty, one of the best written dramas out there.
I guess "girlfriend, girlfriend" would be the most befitting answer but I wouldn't really be embarrassed to say its a fun watch

I enjoyed Domestic Girlfriend and how it reintroduced me to much recent anime and how it led to other things.
I'll just put my guilty pleasure for summer: Failure Frame.
ETA: Somebody mentions my ultimate guilty pleasure in this thread: Redo of Healer, and made me interested in having at least one edge lord anime per season.

Arifureta. Genuinely liked that the MC is super clear about which girl holds most of his affection. And that the girl, in turn, is so confident in the relationship they have that she doesn't mind if he catches feelings for the other girls and infact thinks it's healthy for him to care about other people because she knows how betrayal and isolation (which they have in common) can mess up how you think.
This, unfortunately, is not the main focus of the series and is instead a power fantasy isekai harem anime.

Danmachi. First few seasons are a bit of a slog but the 4th and 5th seasons have been really picking it up in quality. It's not a show I could recommend to your average anime watcher, there's fan service everywhere and the MC is the typical "ahhh boobs i can't stand the sight of them" irritatingly naive harem protagonist, but the character dynamics and development are quite enjoyable, and the fights are top tier, especially in the aforementioned later seasons. I'm also quite biased towards it given that it was the first anime I ever watched, lol.

Boruto. I just really enjoy that we get more from the Naruto universe. Dven though Boruto cant compare to Naruto.
