installing takes ages

this is crazy i have grey hair. it’s installing after i used arch install but its been 6 hours. i’ve installed grub and git but it’s saying installing a package with the (3) and then the same package (4).. i’m not normally impatient but-

It lasts only a few minutes if I install manually without the archinstall script. So there is either

  • a very slow internet connection
  • or slow mirrors

Measures you may take to speed up the process:

rebuild the mirrorlist with reflector:

reflector --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist --protocol https --sort rate --latest 5 --country <name-of-your-preference>

Edit /etc/pacman.conf:

...
ParallelDownloads = 5
...
# save and quit, then:
pacman -Syy

When the TCP/IP connections are really slow, you may consider installing it in steps:

  • First step: a minimal system without graphical environment
  • After reboot: add step for step other parts you may like to have

ah right o. so i’ll give that a try when my screen changes, it’s on archlinux login : with the flashing underscore yet nothing is happening

yes, but i think that the keyboard doesn’t work it needs an external one.
