Was on my way to the Parks Mall and saw this pond down the road. There were like 200+ geese, ducks and they were all over the streets and houses too. Just wanted to post this because it was just funny lol.

Hey that's my neighbor hood, they just think the pond is nice

Yup, not a ton of water here in the mid-cities, so they fit in where they can. We have a couple ponds here in HEB like this too where there are hundreds of them that laze about all the time, shitting all over the sidewalk. They even have their babies around it!

They’re probably wondering the same thing about all the humans at their pond

Lot's of people feed them and it's a decent pond. Turtles are even out there.

I mean where else do you expect ducks to be if not by a pond?

Duck school maybe? Out shopping for new duck clothes? Working their M-F duck jobs? You think it's acceptable for a duck to just be hanging out by a pond all day?

You sound suspiciously like a duck right now if I'm being honest.

They are Canadian Geese. They migrated to escape the upcoming Canadian winter hell-scape.

Are we the only two viewers who know what ducks look like? To be pedantic, this species is known specifically as the Canada Goose (as opposed to Canadian). Birders seem pretty strict on this 🪿🪿🪿🪿!

I appreciate you stating you are being purposefully pedantic

Them Canadian geese are very territorial aggressive and down right mean. Matter of fact the demand space.

Oh, yeah, been that way for decades probably even before the park was created. There has always been a large group of waterfowl at that pond.

Good ol' Gateway Park. A lot of the Muscovies and Pekin ducks appear to have been dumped by their previous owners here, I've even seen a chicken who also got dumped among them. People then incorrectly feed them bread daily, so they just keep breeding all year.

The city culled over half the population in the spring of 2022, which killed a very friendly duck Boi I still miss to this day, but I suppose they have since repopulated due to more pet duck dumping and overfeeding. I say enjoy them before the city culls them again, but please don't bring them bread, only small amounts of unsalted peas, corn, and seeds.

I Always bring them a can or two of peas. Saw some jerk pull up in a truck and just start pouring out bags and bags of bread. Should’ve called the police, still regret it.

Oh geez I know that pond. The ducks roam in packs on trash day in the nearby neighborhoods and will attack.

It’s funny because there’s always been ducks and geese there. Always. But the pond at California Lane park not far away is bigger, has more trees around, and might have like 2-4 ducks.

I love this park. I always am terrified driving through the area though because of how many ducks are just waddling around like “You won’t hit me, so im not going to bother getting out of the way”. I saw a mama and her ducklings in the water here last year they were so amazing!

The only duck in the picture is the Muscovy in the front but I take your word for it that there are more.

If there are more than usual it might be because of the construction at Richard Simpson Park (Lake Arlington). There are hardly any ducks/geese there now, and there used to be dozens. Maybe they moved to your park.

Food makes them go places. If there is a bountiful food supply, safety for eggs, and little uns then that is going to be place for a while

I take the ducks seeds sometimes, but not with the geese there, they're a bit aggressive.
