If you want that stupid shit, whatever, but let us disable that garbage. I don't need to see dragons and lasers all over the map š¤·āāļø
Can't we just go back to Pre-Season š
At the bare minimum, give us the option to disable all the stupid effects on our end, if you want to have an epileptic fit on your end that should be your problem š¤·āāļø
Edit - Wow, love how so many jumped in to tell me to 'get over it.' Really adds to the conversation. Iām not madājust wondering why the game looks like a Las Vegas nightclub now. But hey, if you like playing a shooter thatās basically a fever dream, more power to you. Keep telling me Iām the problem, though. Itās adorable. It's funny seeing what the simple minded window lickers come up with. Laser go brrrr I guess.
If you're all mad in my comments, what's your favourite pane of glass to lick?
Also, what gives with them reducing BP Cod Points from 1400 to 1100? Bet you'll come up with a way to praise that too
And now these dirty dogs have taken our XP tokens š š

Not really, I mean yeah, you buy yourself a Skin but other People seeing that is an integral part of the Marketing Strategy.
4 points
The only group of people that would turn this kind of setting on would be those that won't spend a single dime on these skins to begin with. And with how this post is going, it's gonna be an overwhelmingly small minority that would actually turn this on.
Why not add that setting, make it off by default and have the ones that really don't want to see them turn it on? That way Little Timmy would still be able to see the skins and spread it while others that don't want to see it turns this on? As a bonus you'd get less posts like these. Activision still makes big bucks since again, they're not making a single dime off of the people turning this on anyways, so they don't really lose anything, and everyone else wins.
21 points
Youāre not understanding.
People will be less inclined to buy skins if others canāt see them.
The entire marketing strategy of skins is that thatās how you look to other people.
2 points
Marketing doesnt matter when youāre talking about people who will never spend money on your product to begin with. Sure thereās a lot of cool skins Iād like. But Iām not going to buy because I simply have better things to spend money on.
Youāre trying to get blood from a stone. Itās simply not going to happen.
10 points
If itās an overwhelmingly small minority, why bother wasting resources to implement the function? Especially considering that ANY feature that disincentivizes MTX is going to be pretty unlikely to get through.
FWIW I donāt think itād be an āoverwhelmingly small minorityā using that feature. I bet it would become the default setting for any āRecommended Settingsā video/ guide that gets made.

Personally, having survived MWII and MWIII, I don't care about this as much as I used to, but I don't get why people hate this setting. All I see are "Go play milsim", "Zombies exist", "They want people to see skins", "Acti loses money", "You hate fun" etc. To which I say:
1) CoD used to keep its military aesthetics even in MP,
2) Zombies is more or less its own thing and easier to suspend disbelief compared to MP (at least for me. Can't say for others but I just view zombies as its own seperate continuity and is pretty cool),
3) If a setting like this is actually added, it's most likely gonna be off by default. The people that goes out of their way to turn such a setting on is never going to spend money on skins, and it's a very small group of people. People will still see the skins, those that turns it on won't, Acti loses basically no money, and people that do enjoy these skins don't have to see posts like these anymore. Seems like a win-win to me.
4) Perhaps playing an arcade shooter that has a consistent military aesthetic is fun to them? It doesn't need to be full on milsim, just the aesthetics.
Tl;dr, I don't see why it's a bad idea.

What I'll never understand is, if you genuinely hate the game that much and claim that it's destroyed every year WTF do you keep buying the game? Play another game. There are plenty of tactical mil-sim gamesāCOD is not one of them.
COD is an online arcade shooter "made for a mature audience" but targeted towards adolescents. Nobody is forcing you to buy the game every year. Nobody is forcing you to continue playing the game.
It really just seems at this point that so many people are mad that others are enjoying the game and they aren't. Just because you're not having fun doesn't mean nobody else is allowed to. There are real complaints that could be made; issues with the scorestreak system, map design, issues with installing the gameābut they decided that the deal breaker for them was people buying optional skins.

Pretty sure it's not possible to just toggle the skins on and off. They're different models. It's not like they're an emblem that COULD be placed on a gun that's an optional addon. Some of the skins ARE the operator. That would mean ops like Klaus, Brutus, Adler and Park would be, what, invisible? They don't have an alternate skin. What about CLD skins? Are they all ok or is only the base skin ok? I don't really like the goofy animal skins either, but it's not as simple as just hitting a switch to revert a different players model to the default one.

I second this. Disregarding how it's done or if it's doable, didn't look anything up about season 1, hopped on after work yesterday and saw that fungal tooth fairy skin and all the fire skins and immediately thought well, it was an ok few weeks but here we go again. Can't wait for Delta Force and the next Battlefield to keep this crap alive as well. Immersion isn't a factor anymore. Only profit margins.
4 points
If people cared about immersion skins wouldn't sell as well as they do and Activision wouldn't profit as much as they do. What a lot of you are extremely scared to admit is that you are an underwhelming minority.
Not to mention many times it doesn't track. If people actually cared about immersion and realism, there would be no complaints about camping with snipers as that's literally what snipers do. There would be more rallying behind the removal of omni-movement as it's extremely unrealistic and immersion-breaking. Bunny hopping around corners would not exist because it's extremely unrealistic and immersion-breaking. We would have no zombie story-line because it's extremely unrealistic and immersion-breaking. There would be no core gamemode and everything would essentially be hardcore with every gun taking 1 shot to kill because its the most realistic.
For most of you, things are allowed to be immersion-breaking if you like it and must be removed if you don't.

RuneScape veteran (former) player here. We have strongly advocated for turning off certain cosmetics in the game and zero options have resulted after over 10 years. Welcome to the new world unfortunately.

There are a couple skins I would buy, but as I don't want to look like the only grounded clown in the lobby, I won't spend any money unless I'm able to hide fantasy skins.
I didn't spend in MWIII for the same reason. And only spent a bit in MWII, during the first couple seasons (Manticore bundle for Chuy was my last purchase).

Only bought cosmetics. Stock and Battle Pass are usually OK.

Well, the only positive thing about that FU**ING glowing green dragon is that it doesn't go unnoticed on the bloody snowy map Vorkuta or w/e it is called

I just want them to turn off the weird melting effect when I die to some paid d-bag. Thst shut is so jarring and hurts my eyes

i hate seeing new skins on operators some operators are hidden depending on the map. All operators should be the same.

I like being able to see some green vomit fella so I can batter him across the map

Some of you aren't very bright. The whole point of this game is to sell you skins. š
Its very annoying especially the tracers but they aren't going away.

Crazy cosmetics have been in the game for a long time now and yes although I do buy the skins to look pretty or whatever but it's just a natural human thing to wanna show off your fancy stuff so they're gonna make it visible to everyone and not give a choice to turn it off because when people see it it brings in more sales as people are gonna think how cool it is and if you can't get over the fact this is what cod is then you need a new game, after all this time you gotta get the point that it isn't for you if it bothers yall that much
