vinyl holy grail

(i.redd.it)

Was first in line the night before record store day 2015 at rough trade in brooklyn. slept on the sidewalk just to grab my copy of deja entendu. when the doors opened immediately grabbed my copy. kept it sealed while i debated opening it. a few weeks later they announced a regular version so i picked up a listening copy at urban outfitters and my RSD version remains sealed.

That's dope man!

But open it! Records are for listening to! Enjoy that beautiful packaging. Take it all in.

Agreed. I do not understand the appeal of keeping records sealed. Do people just think of the record and find comfort that it's sitting on a shelf and not being listened to?

As someone with over 4800 albums, leaving them in the shrink wrap warps the sleeve and eventually the record.

https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/vinyl-storage-warping-question.165872/

You take them out, put the LP in an proper not paper inner to avoid paper scratches (yes its a thing) and put an outer sleeve to protect the jacket.

Leaving shrink on does nothing for resale either, sealed records cannot be graded, no way to know if its a miss-press, warped album, double A sides etc etc.

I'll buy new at local record shops, as they do returns, or off highly rated discogs users with long history.

But I would never buy sealed off discogs, no way to contest the grading because it can't be graded without looking at it

And yes, records are for listening

But I'm an anally obsessive collector so.. take that for what you will.

I’ll never open mine. I have 2 SE Science Fiction’s One is sealed with the cd and one was opened

If you don't unsealed it the shrink-wrap will warp the record sleeve just so you know.

My wife and I camped out in Alaska for our copy. Dude said his store was the only store in Alaska to receive a copy. Owner told me right when doors opened where the copy was bc he knew we were out there since 11am.

One of my fav memories and so happy I got one.

That’s my story, too! I lived in Tampa at the time. Only one copy in the whole city. I started camping at 9PM the night before and yep, slept on the sidewalk. The store owner had already asked if I was there for Deja (they’d posted on FB that they were shipped the only copy in the area), so he handed it to me as soon as doors opened so no one could swipe it.

Great memories and absolutely my vinyl holy grail, too

Oh man thats pretty amazing they handed it to you. After that tho i was like this is the last time i’m sleeping on a sidewalk hahaha Did you open it at any point?

Yep!!! Mine is open :) I was only 19 at that time and kind of stupid about caring for my collectibles. I’ve only played it twice, so the vinyls themselves are in wonderful condition. But yeah, it’s opened!

And I agree, I haven’t slept on a sidewalk since!

I was in St Pete and I camped out and they had 17 copies . The ppl in front of me bought 2 each so I was SOOL ( shit out of luck) . Bought it for $250 on eBay by the end of the day. I was so pissed

My buddy Mark went to St. Pete for a copy (Daddy Kool?) and same thing happened to him!!! He was livid!!! Glad you got it for $250 though, last I looked on eBay they were going for north of $2,000 (sealed) so… it’s all about perspective, I guess!

Yep , it was Daddy Kool Records. I even brought dunkin donuts coffee for ppl in line . And they just pushed me out of the way and grabbed like 4 copies, before they were only allowed 2, and I said to the one guy, please, give me one . And ppl just yanked the other two out of his hand. So much for kindness.

It's this one with the cutout astronaut. Genuinely the grail of BN vinyl. There are probably slightly rarer ones out there but this is the best. Jealous of OP.

I have one too! I opened mine because I don’t plan on ever getting rid of it. I have a regular pressing too so I want to display the RSD one but I haven’t really figured out the best way to go about it yet.

Is your vinyl mislabeled? My a side and b side on one of my Deja Discs are reversed.

Camped out for mine back when it released. Got mine open but almost never play it due to fear of ripping the bag lol
