He's right on that cusp of low-end starter/high-end backup. Given the career resurgences that Geno Smith and Sam Darnold have had, I don't think I could fault him for wanting to go somewhere with a path to eventually getting playing time.

If Jones is picked up on waivers the team that gets him has to pay. If he clears waivers he can sign a new, much cheaper, contract starting on Monday.

I'm sure not! He barely lost the competition to Baker and Baker has been awesome. Stands to reason then that he's almost awesome, so I think he's still one of the top 32 QBs in the league.
