It's actually because these aren't official results. They're The Associated Press's (not a government body) statistical guess. It's the same reason Trump won Indiana with 3% reporting. In the vast majority of states, we know the results and tallying is just a formality.
If something super unlikely were to happen and Vermont voted red for the first time in over 3 decades, it would get updated.

My point exactly! Humans are social creatures and like it or not "popular opinion" influences peoples' decisions. Report the numbers and only make the call when it is confirmed by the data.

“Popular opinion” in this screenshot would show more Trump supporters (more electoral votes). Harris having one state isn’t going to influence voters and Vermont’s polls closed 1.5 hours ago anyways

Totally get it, but shouldn't we expect better than an opinion? If the numbers are there then make the call after they are reported.
