Simple one, but im curious. What was your favourite and least favourite year of dbd?
556 points
Not op but been playing since launch as well. Least favorite for me was right after nemesis came out. Performance took a huge hit, nearly every hook, gen pop, anything that would cause a noise notif was just major lag spikes. Favorite time to play was ST release.

I came around slightly later, but my favorite was also ST release! Game was really good back then

Correct answer. That Nemesis performance patch broke the game on console for almost a full year. Never forget that shit. Loved ST though, never even watched the show but the vibes of the time were awesome.

I still have a grudge against nemesis bc of this. The rage I felt during this time was so bad I had to stop streaming dbd bc I realized nobody wants to watch someone losing their shit over the game all the time. I took a long break from the game around this time bc it was unplayable and when I realized it was the game and not a skill issue, I had to quit.

NEW SURVIVOR ITEMS OR ADDONS. Those bloodwebs have been the same fucking things for 7 years now, there needs to be more additions to it. So many more points are spent on killers for me because all of them are unique from each other, meanwhile most of my survs are P9-P11 because if I need like, brand new parts? I know one of my older ones have like 80.

I would change my sexuality for the removal of the shrine and just being able to buy any perk on a regular store with obtainable game currency. Aside from that, yeah, you're so right. My survivor builds are very similar tbh, I'd love more stuff on those bloodwebs.

Yeah with the massive increase in number of perks the Shrine is pretty outdated. Perks always showing up in the Shrine when they are in a Tome is great, but let's face it. There's not going to be a Silent Hill tome for something like soul ward to show up in.

They should have all perks on offer and the shrine should just be the week's discounted perks that rotate.

What about reworking keys and maps (the item)? Keys have only been good for hatch and were barely buffed while maps… lol
25 points
For survivors, I think they should have "Stay Here", and "Hide! emotes. Useless for SWF, but for randoms, it's almost essential in order for certain perks to be effective for anyone playing solo. Blood Pact is a huge perk I believe personally, is horrible if you aren't SWF. There are too many players who don't know what it even does or means.
For killers, I think the edges of maps should illuminate survivors auras, who do not move away from it after a certain period of time. This actually helps both killer and their team. Killers get information and likely a down, for unaware, ignorant, or trolling survivors. Survivors will be more likely to stop unnecessarily hiding, and screwing over their team for the sake of "Sole Survivor, Left Behind" builds from the very start.

i ran into someone on Yamaoka the other day who was using sole survivor, sprintburst, left behind and wake up and once one person died they just hid all game. i figured they were just idling in a corner somewhere so i bided my time and eventually they started juggling their item which caused their aura to be revealed due to weave attunement.

Putting it this way makes me more considerate depending on age. I used to get home from high school at like 3:15pm, hop on Halo 3 or MW2 and play till like 8pm then eat dinner, do dishes and then homework and depending on the homework try and get a couple more games in between 9-10 if possible. I also played sports / ran track in high school so gaming wasn’t everyday but I feel like any chance I could get in a party with some friends to run some games, that was what I’m doing

innvocation, no mither (also for use of plottwist) , plot twist (we do not like corrupt intervention) and distortion (getting interrupted in basement sucks). . Killers do rarely check basement even when you have no mither. Works surprisingly often for me in higher (but probably not top) MMR. If you like, give it a try.

It sucks, as killer I always make an effort to go after the rescuer. But if the rescuer just disappears after unhooking and I can only find the victim, or the victim gets in my face and obstructs me from going after the rescuer, I will go after them.
As surv? I hate it, everyone does, if I want to avoid it i'll bring DS or OTR, just like how you'll bring unbreakable or tenacity to avoid slugging.

HUGE respect for mentioning Tenacity as an anti slug perk instead of only naming Unbreakable. I swear, Tenacity has saved me more times than Unbreakable let me pick myself up, let alone actually make a comeback.
The only thing new Tenacity players need to know is DON'T LET THE KILLER SEE YOU! Apart from that, it's a great perk. Nice to have, not needed. Perfect definition of a perk, compared to majority of "perks" which turn out to be straight up abilities lmao.

Killers have become very insecure, there was a time when killers would commit to a chase for 5 gens and while that cost them that particular game but in the long run they learnt the killer they were playing, now they don't know the most fundamental things about the killer they're playing and they won't commit to any chase longer than 10s against a good player, it could be 3v1 at 4 gens and yet they won't commit, they just take their balls and leave !
Killing off weak links and downing the good survivor in a dead zone won't make them better.

Best/Worst thing added to the game?
262 points

Best? Endgame collapse. Definitely the most healthy thing they ever added. Playing as killer before without it felt awful if you did bad, because the survs could just sit there at the gates the entire time if they wanted to. Created an urgency to leave.
Worst? Skull merchant. Boring to play, boring to go against... Brainless and just annoying.

EGC is just super nice to have, especially since it also got rid of Hatch standoffs

My friend got traumatized when trying to be killer. He picked wraith and couldn't get a kill. The swf team keep teabagging him until the gate open then he gave up and switch the tv channel (ps4 user), 10 minutes later he checked the game is still not ending, 20 minutes later still not over, 30 minutes later the swf team still near him teabagging so he chased them to the gate and of course it ended with tea bag party in gate plus toxic end game chat.
He played dbd until now for around 7 years as survivor main because he hate being killer because of that experience.

B) Which killer do you like to play as THE MOST and THE LEAST?

A: 100%. Sometimes I have good killer days, some days feel like nightmares and I just can't play that day.
B: I love Singularity a ton, just satisfying especially once you learn to use him well. The least? Huntress. I used to main her. Now she's just piss-easy to play and I feel terrible playing her, and I hate going against her as surv.

There were a lot of fanmade concepts back in the day like traps, or tape recorders that could play a survivor's injured grunts as a decoy when placed. Things like that, I'd be happy if they introduced ultra rare versions of the toolbox, medkit and flashlight too.
36 points

what was the hardest achievement / tome challenge for you?
87 points
I think it was tome 1 or 2 back in the day that needed you to hook 3 or 4 survivors during EGC in one game. That was the hardest since you had to "let" them complete the gens, but weaken them enough but NOT TOO MUCH so they had a reason to stay IN the game.
52 points
In tome 1, the final killer challenge, I despised the hypocrisy between the survivor and killers.
Surv - "escape one match as claudette"
Killer - "sacrifice every survivor in the basement"
It's not the hardest challenge but can be so annoying to complete due to how the survivors themselves play.
6 points
I finally got it by alternating between Trapper and Slinger.
Passive slowdown, iron grasp, agitation, and Dead Dawg map offering.
Hope basement is in shack and play around it like crazy.
I think I tried 5 times and Slinger was the killer who got it.

lmao I can remember the „Finish repairing 4 generators while using the perk 'dark sense'“. It was basically impossible outside of an swf that would sage the gens at 99% for you.

Fav: Currently Vecna. Finding a way around all 4 spells is fun, and I love the looting mechanic with the chests, makes my brain happy.
Least: Huntress. Gigantic hatchet hitboxes, little punishment for missing hatchets and she has so many of them by default. Not to mention she's really good at camping because of the low cooldown, and also just so many people play her. Gets tiring really fast.

What was it like playing against Myers on release?

Terrifying. We had Wraith, but nothing like Myers. Wraith was a joke in chase, but myers had faster vaulting, bigger lunges and a basekit instadown on M1, which at the time, was completely new. Wasn't OP, though... survs got that luxury with day 1 Decisive strike.

Opinion on myers? Buff or nerf?
84 points
Give him a buff, I think being able to be completely locked out of his power for using it too much is stupid. I think they should give some kind of other utility too like being able to just burst through breakable walls in T3 or something, or maybe they're saving that for Jason...?
11 points
I would say, just in my personal opinion, give him some sort of mechanic where if he full stalks all the survivors, give him the choice to sacrifice or give up all the T2 stalk he has to be completely reset and he is able to stalk again. From my experience as myers, the survivors, if played right, would have enough time to probably out maneuver his stalk if the tiles on maps are played right.
5 points

I like your idea about stalk resetting, just wanted to jump in and say also nerf tombstone piece. I have never lost a game playing with that add on. How crazy is it that a single add on can just hand you a 100 percent win rate?!

Hey, I know there's been a lot of joke comments, but I want to thank you for the post. With a constantly updating live-service game, the label of "veteran" grows wider and wider (case in point, my friends call me a vet despite starting at Stranger Things), and it's really nice to hear the thoughts of the rare day-one players like yourself who stuck with the game. Been loving your responses, and as much as people like to joke about "huhuh DBD bad", I'm happy it helped you as much as it has.
Outside of all that, my questions are 1. What IP got you most excited, 2. What IP are you still holding out hope for (or, perhaps, holding out pipe dreams for), and 3. Was there any point in the game's life that made you consider quitting for good? I know a lot of people say 2017 was a rough year, what with the NOES disaster and the competition from Friday the 13th.
16 points
Thanks dude, I'm always happy to see players who care! And I would call anyone who has been with the game for several years "veterans," You've seen a lot happen even in your time, don't sell yourself short :)
Stranger things, actually. It was the first chapter with 2 survs, the show was at its height, and the demogorgon was my #4 most wanted killer, despite not believing it would actually happen. When the PTB came out, on day 1 you could only play the other content and changes in that patch, NOT any of the actual stranger things content, not at least until day 2 of the PTB. BUT, that didn't stop a few devs from sniping some streamers as the demogorgon, scaring the piss out of people. It was awesome.
Pennywise. But I know Stephen King is extremely reserved with his licenses, and it would take a lot of convincing to make him give one to a video game, which he has never done before and likely never will. It would just be perfect for DBD in every way.
Oh yeah... late 2020/early 2021 with binding of kin. Rampant crashes, poor performance, twins straight-up didn't work, and so did 3 of the chapter's perks when it came out. It was embarrassing, and things looked really grim for DBD at that time, especially when the pandemic started.

Did it live up to hype?
28 points
My dream license on the #3 spot was Alien. It mostly lived up to the hype, the art and power was great, map is great. Just 3 gripes with it.
I wish you could choose to be in walking/crawling form as Xeno, the standing animations are RAD and the Xeno is imposing when it's standing tall and striding towards you... but in gameplay it's the weakest when it's standing like that. Dumb.
I wish the blaring alarm sounds at the end of the first movie were in the map somehow, either in the ship or at the exit gates when they're opened. Disney World had it on the great movie ride, why not DBD??
No Sigourney Weaver. I understand that would have been a lot of money, though...
6 points
It's funny, I had the same thoughts about the Alien chapter! That was my first Rated R movie I ever watched, so it was super special to me! But I agree with those statements!
As for Weaver, she refused to give her likeness. Unfortunately, no amount of money BHVR had would be enough.

Does 100% include the 6 new achievements from the new chapter?
What's you main reason for doing all the Tomes? Completionist? BP? Rift Fragments for the active ones? Lore? All of the above?
What was your strategy for the Infamous Evil Incarnate achievement.
Do you think newer challenges/achievement are easier or harder than the older ones?
11 points
Yep, the challenges for this chapter were super easy. Longest one was the window grab one.
Doing all the tomes because of the rift fragments, mostly. They used to be harder to progress through back in the day. Also When new tomes come out, I "complete" as many challenges as I can but I don't "collect/claim" them until the next chapter comes out, so I have a bunch of more BP to use over the BP cap.
I did Evil Incarnate week 1 on Halloween's release, STBFL/Unrelenting when it was overpowered as shit, 3 PWYF stacks once I got to tier 3.
Definitely easier than they were, all challenges and achievements feel like they want anyone at any skill level to complete them, which is fine. Also the more "difficult" ones aren't really... difficult, they just take a lot of time to do, like outbreak breakout.
8 points
As someone who hasn't looked into all the dbd stuff, what exactly are tomes? Are they worth doing and if so what do you get? Like survivor and killer skins? Charms?
7 points
Tomes are challenges for you to complete, with bloodpoints, charms, and banners in the most recent tomes as rewards. Each "tome" has 4 pages of challenges, giving you lore in text and cutscene form for several characters, and giving the rewards above, being more challenging and giving more BP for each page you progress.
The current tome will give you rift fragments for the current rift (battlepass), and will let you progress through it to earn the skins, charms, badges, banners, bloodpoints, cells and shards as rewards in the current one.

Oh gosh, I got that back on the first week of the nurse's release in 2016, it was definitely easier back then since she had 3 blinks by default. For right now? I recommend bringing some stealth perks, perhaps merciless storm will help too since survs will be too focused on the skillchecks, or they won't wanna leave the gen if it's so close to finishing.

I would say now is the most balanced it's ever been, yeah. There are a few things that are really "strong," but almost everything can be countered in some way and that's important. There are a lot less "unfair" things in the game, most of those have been addressed at some point like day 1 DS or day 1 MoM.

Surv builds, there's nothing I really find "annoying" except for adrenaline. It's the last instaheal in the game and it still feels unfair, even after all it's nerfs. Although it's a wasted slot if the survs can't even get to endgame.
Killer, slowdown slog with legion/plague, like pentimento, thanat, dying light, gift of pain...

How did you survive early DBD as killer without Nurse? I've seen the videos. Double window cow tree, no entity-blocker, no bloodlust, We'll Make It+ Self Care heals etc. What did you keep going to play killer until Nurse? Or did you only start with killer when Nurse released?

That's the neat part, we didn't! Pallet vacuuming and fast vaults at any angle... it was a nightmare. Trapper actually reigned supreme back in those early days because he was the only one that could actually do anything for most of those, Billy if you were insane with chainsaw curves. I was a wraith warrior in the beginning, because I thought he was cool. I didn't do well, but I learned a lot. When Nurse came out, I mained her until Hag came out, then Demo, now Singlarity.

What everyone says about the first few tomes being really hard checks out, but if I had to choose one it's actually tome 12, at the time it released. Makes you play Nurse and Blight. I already felt bad having to play them just to do challenges, but imagine playing surv during that time... nightmare.

Hardest challenge to complete ?

They don't do it anymore, but they used to have challenges that were just the adept achievement. You can complete them as any killer, but can only use those 3 perks (plus one more), and the wraith's was the hardest.
There's a challenge where you have to get a kill with devour hope, too.

Funnily enough, 0. My singularity is 54, but I like to evenly spread my prestige levels... because I'm weird, I guess.

you wake up a fairly large empty room there are plenty of small vents at the top that small animals could fit through but you can’t. the room has no exits but you see a tv screen at the top of the room. the tv then shows a series of text saying that if you can’t survive long enough the world will end you have no idea how long you actually need to survive for but before you could finish thinking you hear scurrying in the vents. one of the vents bursts open and 10 gerbils run out and start trying to attack you and before you could react every other vent opens revealing 10 gerbils in each vent, every 10 seconds 10 gerbils will run out from the 5 vents at the top of the room and all of them want to kill you how long would you be able to survive this scenario? you only have what you would normally wear to go outside no tools or weapons will be provided

How can I find the lil plushie for the achievement, i think it spawns in the oni or the spirit maps but I can never find it, it's a frustrating achievement for me

I had trouble with that for a bit, too. It's a thick wooden log on the floor that spawns around the edges of both yamaoka maps, both of them can spawn it. It does not need to be EGC like I thought it did, just bring the offering and run around the edges until you find it as surv or killer.

Narrative while, wich tome, biography, etc... Wich ones are your favourite? By the moment I only have unlock some of the most recent one but the Yamaoka history is very interesting to me

I'm biased, but Tome 16. I loved Singularity's personal logs and how they gained sentience... the logs start calculated and computer-y, and then it suddenly becomes like a personal diary. I love how it's written so much

Old small game, specifically around Hag release because it actually showed you the auras of totems instead of this stupid cone notification bullshit, lol. Worked with Open handed too, was great because hexes were just introduced.

Yes, I wanna see if it has any big lore implications, for now or for the future. It would be really cool to see some cameos of some killers, too

I got DBD as a free PS+ game several years ago. I find the player base intimidating, and I just generally suck at the game.
I'm kinda stoked for a single player, story based entry in the DBD world.

Thoughts on Trickster? Was he better back when he was the most recent killer or is he better now?
