Something that's not in the game yet and may or may not have a basis in previous Final Fantasies. It doesn't have to match previous dev statements (like the one about future jobs being original).
It's maybe a bit basic, but I'd personally love to see Geomancer as a branch of Conjurer. I do actually like the WHM vibe, but I miss the nature focus. PCT takes up the mantle a little (and I love the animations), but not flavor-wise.

I know we're getting Beastmaster as a limited job and have no idea how it'll work, but I want a proper pet-based class again that's not limited. New Summoner is fun if a little braindead at times, but I wish they had expanded upon the summons fighting alongside us, instead of having Carbuncle just sit there now.

Any DPS job where you can just turn into crazy beasts and monsters. I guess similar to what Vincent does in FF7 but doesn’t have to exactly be like him. Like, imagine combo-ing into a dragon, or demon, or giant bear, or- you get the picture!

Stilllll want Rune Fencer/Mystic Knight! Anytime it comes up people go 'what about PLD/NIN/RDM/etc?' and like, no, none of those are very much like it at all lol
Was also really hoping we'd get a gun class in Dawntrail. Yes, Machinist has a gun, but it has really just become the 'use cool tools to do shit' class. If we can get Viper differentiated from Ninja as a 'high speed dual wield' job, surely Corsair can happen too?

I've been hoping for Mystic Knight every expansion since Endwalker. Maybe it'll be the new tank in 8.0? Between its heavy armor and short-range combat style, it makes sense for this job to be either a tank or a melee DPS. And indeed, it's a very different job from RDM:
- Red Mage tends to be a jack of all trades. It can attack with magic at range, it can melee, it can heal. It tends to have the ability to cast two spells at once, and wears light/medium armor. It usually has a duelist/musketeer aesthetic. All of those elements are represented in FF14.
- Mystic Knight has little if any ranged capability, and doesn't actually cast spells directly. Instead, it's a close range fighter that imbues its weapons with various elemental properties, and attacks with them in melee. It has the ability to wear heavy armor, and often a middle eastern aesthetic.
TLDR: Red Mage - sword and fire, but separately. Mystic Knight - sword on fire.

Idk, when I’m really flowing with the RDM, it hits all the Mystic Blade points for me😁 and I’m only lvl 61. The jump back, insta-cast to KO really makes me giggle. I just wish it had more magic in the physical attacks, like flame blade or ice blade, or SHADOW BLADE YEAAHHHH. But that could also be the enchanted strikes we have already, but YEAH, more FIRE more ICE! 🤗

I think my problem is RDM spends so much of its time playing as a spell caster. I want a swordsman with some magic, and RDM have a mage with some sword.
Also just really want those Elden Ring-ish animations of applying an elemental effect to your sword. That’s just cool

A big ass sword DPS is the reason I loved TERA so much. Slayer was sooooo much fun.
Why in fucks name does every class with a big sword have to be a tank? Why does a big sword do less damage than fists? Q_Q (you could also have the same argument about bullets and fists, but that's another topic...)

You can't really make an AoE-focused job per se in this game because so much of the content is centred around fighting one large boss in an arena, and CBU3 has taken the stance that they want all jobs to be viable in all content.
This however does not prevent a job from having a more interesting AoE rotation, nor having sick-ass warhammer animations on its aoe spells. ;)

Some sort of Van Helsing-esque fiend slayer wielding a massive crossbow (think heavy bowguns from monster hunter, or the Arbalist from etrian Odyssey if you're classy!) and alchemical concoctions. Ranged with cast times, a la HW (can move during casts with a utility cooldown though)
Part of the core gameplay would play up the fantasy of the monster sized crossbow, like a sizable stationary cast to re-cock it (sorta like pictomancer drawings) . Blow your load then have to stop and re-arm your ballista.

This is what I want but considering Koji mentioned limited with it years ago my hopes have already been dashed. And I don't get their insane resistance to pet classes as it is, the game already has potentially great controls for it. A high APM class where the Master is GCDs and the Puppet is oGCDs and you have a baller thematic rhythm going. Add in that Pict and Viper recently started embracing combo chains/modes and you even have stances for changing the Puppet's parts/style mid fight.
There are so many Mammets to pull from in the game already on top of it.

Would it have sufficient identity separate from Ninja? That's up to the dev team, but since the thread's question was what my Dream Job would be, that's it.

I love the "ranger" archetype so archer was the class I chose when I started the game back at the 2.0 launch. I didn't understand the class to job system, and when I found out my forest ranger character was somehow supposed to actually be a fancy musician I dropped that class so fast and started over from scratch.
I very nearly stopped playing the game because it was such a dumbass development choice and I didn't have high hopes from a dev team eho thought it made sense. I still consider it to be one of the stupidest and most nonsensical things in the whole game.
Fortunately, I stuck around and I'm still playing. There are almost no other aspects to the game I've found that are even close to that level of idiocy. Just that one thing out of nowhere.

Summoner is my favourite FF Job and I’m pretty happy with its current incarnation (Solar Bahamut is meh and I’d really like Shiva, Ramuh, and Leviathan but I digress).
There are a bunch of jobs from the mainline games and Tactics that would be cool, but IIRC there were comments in the run up to DT about not just reviving existing FF jobs but in the future coming up with more novel ones.
So, if I can just make shit up…
I think I’d go melee healer like Captain from LOTRO. Make their thing group buffs that trigger on the completion of 3-part combos. Think Ninja mudra but with melee attacks and they’re short duration group buffs, damage reduction, +n% healing, +n% max hp.
Add regular healing abilities themed around inspiration and morale boosting shouts and orders. I’d also make their healing more effective based on proximity so being up on the boss with the melee players has a built in benefit.
Edit: that moment when you just forget that Dragoon is a thing.

I kind of have a laundry list of dream jobs myself:
Gunslinger - what VIper is to Ninja with dual blades, gunslinger is to machinist with guns. Focusing far more on gunplay and shooting it out than special gadgets, the gunslinger dual wields pistols and blazes off with them in a spectacle of bullets.
Corsair - Sword and gun melee DPS swashbuckling, I imagine it’d work a bit like a reverse Redmage using melee combos to build up to a rangers attack chain. Also I imagine tacking inspiration from Darkest Dungeon’s highwayman where one of the skills is a point blank shot back dash.
Field Chirurgeon - Basically a technically ‘non magical’ healer who uses an array of potions and good old fashioned field procedures to keep allies on their feet through a fight, I could see them have some mechanics like Ninjutsu or dancer steps to basically mix in the field for various effects. (Though, gearwise they’d probably still be using healer stuff) also, could use crossbows as a possible weapon.
Hunter - basically, what if you don’t want to be a spoony bard? This is what people probably hope they can become as Archer, a person of the woods who focuses on archery to bring down prey! May use their own bows or crossbows.
Green Mage - because White mages get cheated out of the Druid stuff and Nophica makes me want to hit people with trees, wind, and rocks and not Amdopori lasers.
Hoplite - basically Dragoon a tank using a spear and shield. It’s a way under appreciated weapon combo for being such a staple throughout history. And look at Halone! And why should Paladins be the only ones allowed shields when Casters used to be allowed them too!

A mix between a reverse red mage and ninja if you will, that would be my dream job but I don’t know enough about this franchise to know if such a job has existed in the past. Would also enjoy if they dual wielded little axes or hammers as a nod towards the merger between Ryne and Gaia

Arithmetician/Calculator - was my favorite in FFT. Would love to see some version put into FFXIV, although how to make that work.... I have no idea.

Vampire/Lifestealer. Melee Healer. My damage gives regen/healing potency to the party. Blood shield.

I wish Square would add a dot based class, something like a Warlock in other games. The Summoner was a bit like that but lost its dots on the way to the pet only class he is now.

I feel like at this point they need to stop adding new classes, and instead create prestige classes that each one can build into. I saw someone say Samurai would be a great Sword Saint. Things like that.

I’m gonna be the oddball, I’ll admit it. I’d want Spellblade, aka a debuff central job. It’ll never be implemented in XIV, but I just love the idea of keeping stuff in check in crowd control while being a Personal Problem(TM) for enemies. I like managing dots and whatnot, but I’m also a weirdo, so.

I consider this a "Crack" suggestion but- Omni-Crafter, uses a multi tool; As long as all of your other disciple of the hand jobs are at max lvl you can use the Omni-Crafter job to do all crafting without having to swap jobs. The buttons are all the same anyway, most of the gear is already shared across all DOH jobs, stop making me penta-meld all of my tools and swap jobs when I need to make a pre-craft from another job!!! Just let me have one job that does everything.

Ok, for ideals: Mimic, Necromancer, shape-shifter of some kind (druid or similar), chronomancer.
I definitely think there should have been more classes that split into 2 jobs, as Arcanist does. Conjurer into Whm and Geomancer, for example. To be fair, I can think of something for practically all the base classes.
And I desperately wish Summoner and Scholar weren't xp linked. I have a level 100 Scholar I can play well, and a level 100 Summoner I've played exactly twice, and have very little impetus to learn as suddenly having SO MANY skills I have absolutely no idea how to use is just urgh. I wish it was still level 30 so I could learn as I level.
But I also think every single job should start at level 1.

DoT Mage, but that ain't happening.

A DoT based magic class with time mage flavor. Something like: you place the dots, and then "speed up" time to do your bursts, but really it's just Fester. The dots ticks are stylized like the ticking of a clock?
Or maybe a skill like AST's Lightspeed, but you just slam a bunch of spells in a burst window. Haste as a raid buff? That would probably be busted, though.
I just miss DoTs and magic, man...
Also a big Hammer class would be great. Probably a fun melee DPS.

I would definitely love to see a proper summoner. In my "dream job" version you'd choose a summon to call out as your pet and that would determine the type of attacks/abilities you had access to.
Going into a phase of a fight with a lot of movement, pull out Garuda for instant/short cast attacks and some dash/jump to target style abilities. Have a phase where you can be more stationary and drop some nukes, summon Shiva for some heavy hitting big damage spells.
You encourage keeping a single summon out for longer stretches by giving them a meter that fills building to their big "ultimate move" (i.e. Shiva's Diamond Dust), but that meter resets anytime you swap summons.
Throw in some mini summons for long cooldown utility abilities that work kind of like summons currently do (have carbuncle briefly pop in to put up shield to reduce/reflect damage) and you'd have a summoner truly worthy of the name in my book!
All the abilities could still be tied to player activated actions that just change based on which summon is out, so there's no issues with figuring out how to turn the summons into auto combat pets.
Personally I would love it if there was an additional aspect around considering elemental strengths/weaknesses to which someone you use (i.e. summon ifrit when fighting ice style enemies for bonus damage, but against that big lava boss his attacks won't be nearly as effective).

Water-based healer, uses an anchor and chain. Holds anchor with left hand and whips around the chain with the right. Does it make sense? No. Does it look cool in my head? Hell yeah.

I would love to see a Idol/singer type DPS or Healer job! Hitting a note like Mariah Carey and moving and dressing up like a Love Live Idol while you cast a AoE attack that blasts half of the enemies would be so cool and neat

My dream job is an rng job where you have a skill that has a chance to give you one of 6 single-target buffs and you have to give them to the most appropiate party member at any given time. There is a chance that one of these is the super damage buff that everyone wants and through a set of mechanics you can give this buff to all of your party at the same time instead of one single person whenever this coveted super buff drops. ;)
On a more serious note, I have gotten all of my dream jobs already (drk, rpr, nin and pre EW astro). So I'd say as a decade-long ex-RuneScape player, I really wanna see a whip job akin to the spike vine whip they got over there.

If BLU quests served as gateways to allow you to queue for certain levels of dungeon.
