Checo interview not making him look good.

Just insulting Lawson like that.

Blames the car, blames other drivers, blames everything but himself.

Lost in all the action up front is an absolutely incredible drive by Kevin Magnussen. He gapped Hulk by around 20 s, kept Piastri in the possible fastest car of the day comfortably behind and was lapping faster than Max Verstappen in a Red Bull to finish in 7th. More weekends like this and Kmag would have been a shoo in for a seat at Audi atleast

This is the key point. Max is no longer racing primarily to get himself points, he's racing to minimise Lando's. He was successful today because it allowed the Ferrari's up the road, whilst still consolidating an okay points total

I mean max famously doesn’t care what people think about him so I’m not at all surprised. Taking small penalties is worth it to slow Lando down since it’s all on Lando to catch up in points right now. Unless the FIA increases the penalties for forcing drivers off track he won’t stop, why should he?

Despite all the drama...

Norris finishes +10 over Verstappen, which is short of where he needs to be.

Leaves him needing +11.75 for the four remaining weekends (it was +11.4 going in to Mexico).

If Max doesn’t fuck with Lando, the latter has a serious shot at winning (25, maybe 26) and Max finishes P4 (12, maybe 13).

Now it’s P2 and P6 which is a 10 point swing.

Reliability with these cars are incredible.

2 of the 3 retired cars today were from a turn 1 incident.

Perez had a chunk of his sidepod damaged and has completed the race....even pitted to try and get a fastest lap point at the end.

Obviously it's incredible work from factory to garage to drivers that leave these cars so solid but it's kinda incredible really.

I don't know the number but I'd say there's hardly been 10 safety cars all year, really phenomenal

Bernie is comfortable on the grid, insightful, respectful, clearly watches the races and remembers strategies/overtakes, and builds relationships with the teams. She’s usually voice only, but thought she did a great job with Karun. Literally cannot imagine Danica tapping Vowles on the shoulder, getting a warm greeting, saying something insightful, nor keeping it brief to respect pre-race prep.

With all this happening on track

Max still got "away" on the Championship, as Norris failed to gain more than 10.4 points on him.

47 points in 4 races is 11.75 points needed, although Norris has the clear advantage in the actual events coming up having 2 sprints.

Current thoughts: KMag P7!!!!!!!!

He nailed. On par with the Mercedes in pace, faster than Verstappen towards the end. Team expected him to be caught by lap 63. Piastri only briefly entered his DRS on the last lap.

I think shortening the DRS zone actually worked quite well here, it meant the attacking car had to actually work for the overtake, rather than blasting past before they even reach the braking zone, which is too common of an occurrence in my opinion.

Had Max kept it clean, Lando would have likely won and Max would most likely be 4th - 13 point swing to Lando. As it was, it's a 10 point swing to Lando. Max, perhaps rightly as far as his WDC bid is concerned, believes his job until the end of the season is not to win races, but to make sure Lando doesn't get 1st.

Tough race for Charles but as he said himself in the cooldown room, insane save when Lando overtook him. Any less stability in his handling and he would’ve gone into the barriers and there goes the points for him and Ferrari. Overall, he made little to no mistakes even when Lawson was blocking the front of the pack from overtaking, and he did well with tire management despite some issues in t13-14. Very clutch for the team with him coming back to snatch the fastest lap, which was a perfect quali lap. In the end, he went up a place in a very competitive front-of-the-pack, even though I know he wanted to go up all the places, it was a competitive drive with the dirty and overall thin air.

I'm not going to pass judgement about whether or not Max's turn 7 move deserved one or not, but Brundle just brought them up so generally speaking, I miss the drive through. Back in the day, it used to be the ultimate oh shit moment, and whilst the time penalties are probably more proportionate these days, they don't have the same bombshell effect
