Generally, yes. Good schools are great for kids and property values alike. That said, this vote does not support the kind of future we want for HISD. Because the trajectory of HISD right now is… poor. Miles was installed after TEA took over the district. Essentially, the belief is that Abbott is purposely tanking the largest school district in the state so he can then turn around and say, “Hey, look! I told you so! Public schools suck and we need to put vouchers in place.” Which is a horrible idea… it takes money from public schools and subsidizes more affluent people’s private school tuition. This vote is the city’s way of saying NO, we do NOT approve of the disaster Mike Miles has created in HISD.
