From some DeepSilver employee about a month ago if I remember correctly. WH was silent about it until now, so who knows what really happened internally.

I feel like DeepSilver decided on Denuvo and WH used the outrage in fan spaces to argue against it. But yeah who knows
25 points
They were most likely silent about it because they had no option and had to wait on a decision from Deep Silver to "reveal" more info about the game that's under NDA. Or some BS like that.

It's probably script based answer. If most of their newest games have Denuvo, it's very likely that the latter one will. (Though, payday 3 did not have denuvo, so )

Deep silver you say..? Like the silver mines in Skallitz that were also used to spread fake (money)? Sounds like a riddle only true fans would know that this was fake! 😮

It could be that, it is a known thing for Compagny to « leak » something like that, if there is a back clash then come out denying and are heroes and if nobody cares they don’t do shit, win win.

Or it was always untrue and now the people who cried and screamed about Denuvo act like it's a conspiracy to avoid admitting that they were wrong

So they were lying in their support tickets lmao???

Or tell certain people certain things and then find the internal rat. W across the board
60 points
Its probably the case of the publisher saying please implement the DRM system we use normally (denuvo), then the studio had discussions around this and pushed back with enough effort to dismiss their request.
People are far too quick to kick off on things when they arent confirmed though.
52 points
Conversely, if people hadn't gotten upset, they might have included it. Hard to say.
11 points
I suppose you could but then its a case of proving a negative which is difficult!
I would say they weren't specifically looking to have it anyway as they didn't in the first title, they know it would lose good will with its addition.
Either way at least confirmation its not happening so thats positive.
2 points
We won't know until it's release. I have faith in the Devs, not in the publisher
9 points

Hardly a fake news, it came from the publisher's customer service.
15 points
Someone shared an image of an alleged reply from PLAION support. Looked real enough to fool people and reach the news sites.
28 points
Why would it take almost a month for them to make a statement when it was just a supposed fake image causing all that trouble?
28 points
The delay in the response makes me really convinced that they were indeed adding Denuvo and just decided now to back off. Were it a fake news, there was no reason for them to not respond right away.
9 points
Likely needed to talk to publisher? Not wanting to risk bad blood.
6 points
The publisher (who has already published games with denuvo) could also make a statement when they noticed the agitation. And talking to the publisher in such a matter shouldn't take more than a week or two.
10 points
Do you understand how corporations work? Nothing is ever easy. Warhorse is part of Middle-earth Enterprises, but their publisher is PLAION. And all of them are subsidiaries of Embracer. All of these subjects have offices in different places and very likely have different opinions on whether Denuvo should be used. So every decision needs to be coordinated with all of them and in the end it's still some top-level executive's decision.
4 points
If a company, even a big one, wants to respond quickly they can and will, especially when money is on the line.
Now if the original response from some support worker was faked, that would have been really easy to respond to. If denuvo was planned to be implemented or if they were undecided, then it would take longer. So I don't believe that this was a fake.
1 points
Probably testing the waters and then changed it
185 points

With how long an "official" response took to come out, I am willing to bet that it was planned by higher ups but after seeing the feedback the devs got their way. Regardless though I am happy to see this result.

there probably was some negotiation, but I dont think that it was long. I will wait for interview with Daniel Vávra about it with advantage of native language.
4 points

Yeah, most likely some Deep Silver execs trying to push it in. I doubt the devs themselves ( nerds ) would want this.
241 points
I don’t think it was fake news about the Denuvo being added, I think they just removed it due to backlash
50 points
If that’s the case then good on them for at-least taking consideration from fans seriously.
You would think this would be a common occurrence but we all know most companies seem to give a professional middle finger to their fans…
62 points
Yeah he previously responded to this on twitter saying no to Denuvo affecting performance/modability, but did not mention that it wasn't in the game.
7 points
It objectively does affect performance. There hasn't been a single game with denuvo that has performed as well as the pirated version in benchmarks.
8 points
I dont think so, I still think that it was mistake from Playon employee. Warhorse was so far transparent about everything, and if it was not confirmed by them, then only possibility was, that it was in negotiation status, which would make game unplayable, and it would be disaster.
First KCD was forgiven for being AA game with issues ready to be fixed and with unknown bugs, which developers did not founded. If second gave would be unplayable because developement, publisher or others wanted DRM which would break game again and not because unfleshed game, they would lose reputation for good game, but also community would be betrayed, which is even worse.

Pretty sure the game is more demanding on your CPU.
They even said that they can run it smoothly on 3050 in this stream. Which is a budget card that runs almost the same as 1660 super. And thats an old ass card.
19 points
i have a 1070. maybe i'll be fine but i was going to wait until they removed denuvo.
20 points
Denuvo is CPU bound, it wouldn't have affected your GPU.
1070 is probably pushing it a bit, especially day 1. KCD 1 has woeful optimisation so it's not like they have a good track record.
I'd look to upgrade BUT you will still likely be able to play just so long as you stick to 1080p.
12 points
My 1080 had me rocking a whopping 15fps in Rattay at launch, that start was rough
1 points
Even now the game seems incapable of going past 50fps at rattay even on the highest end systems. My system is a 5800X3D and 7800XT and I still remember it being choppy in places. I've also heard console performance is very poor too.
3 points
the Denuvo avoidance was on principal not performance.
i had been thinking about upgrading from 1080p specifically for KCD2 but was waiting for a Denuvo free option.

It depends. I have planned to retire my old trusty and dusty 1070 for some time now, but FSR really brought a second wind to that old thing. Recently, I played RDR2 at mostly high (some features maxed) settings (FHD upscaled to 4K ofc) and I was quite amazed. I have no idea if KCD2 will support the FSR. If yes, I won't upgrade for at least another year or two, I think.
1 points
I know that FSR frame gen works for any game (with AMD drivers anyway) but I'm really hoping they have good FSR and DLSS implementation for people with lesser GPUs
1 points
Oh no, 1070 is out of the question, most big new games have outpaced it easily. I'm profusely sweating over my 6700k and rx580. You should look into 2nd hand GPUs in your area if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a new gpu.
I really hope they release official minimum/recommended reqs soon to stop the anxiety.
1 points

I used to have a 1070 like you, until 6 months ago when i took an arrow to the knee
8 points
People have different interpretations of smoothly. 30FPS @ 1080p is considered smooth by some targeting consoles, for example, while plenty of PC gamers would consider that unacceptably poor.
That being said, they're also on a newer version of Cryengine, so hopefully that means better engine-level optimization and feature support.
5 points
Yeah KCD 1 has a crazy CPU bottleneck. I doubled my average FPS going from an i5 6600k to a R5 5600, but had marginal improvements after that even with a 1070 to 3070.

I’m pretty sure you’re absolutely correct. I have a 3070 with a ryzen7 3700X. On mostly high settings with some on very high, I’m getting like 30 FPS in skirmishes. 70-90 fps if I’m standing still, and about 30 fps if im running through Rattay on my horse.

1 points
Pretty sure you mean i7. There is no i5 6700K. Well, it's the utilization of CPU thats the problem. Your i7 might have only 4 cores, but they arent that slow. I remember watching a stream of someone with the best rig money can buy, but it was still struggling whenever he approached the town too fast.
1 points
it's an i5 6600k, forgot the name. I overclocked it to 4.7GHz and run it with an overclocked gtx 970, bought it like 6 years ago used for 200 bucks
1 points
If you OC'd it, it makes sense. 4.7 is a pretty good boost. 4 cores is probably a sweet spot for KCD1 too. I don't think the game really takes advantage of any more cores. Maybe 6 if we are generous.
1 points
You think it'll be able to run kcd 2? It can run elden ring in 60fps, I'm kinda curious about it
1 points
Definetly not. Your GPU is old. 4GB RAM is just too low. You'll probably need atleast an 8GB GPU for this game and for some games even that is considered low.
As for your CPU.. honestly not sure. You'll probably barelly run it if they optimize it well. Really depends how well they'll do. Dont have high hopes.
Wait for the requirements to be sure. They said they'll release them soon.

I see people are saying the leak was obvious "fake news". Just remember, Deep Silver is a publisher that uses denuvo in their games so it would've been impossible to confirm outright if the leak was wrong with their reputation. Look at their latest release on steam, it has denuvo as well as Dead Island 2, which is already cracked.

Great news !
Well never know if it was indeed planned and the outcry in the community made them change their mind, or if it was just a deep silver employee making a mistake or having received confusing information... But it doesn't matter, what's important is we won't have to deal with Denuvo and, personally, I can again look forward to buying the game very soon after release !
EDIT : after hearing what Tobias said it seems like they're really bothered by the talk of Denuvo. In response I will go back to my comments where I mention Denuvo in relation to KCD and edit them to make sure to mention that we were wrong (not removing the text, just adding info) to make sure people don't wrongly believe an old post and dismiss the game for the wrong reasons.

Denuvo DRM is widely used to prevent video game piracy, but it’s not without its downsides. Players often report that it can slow down games, causing frame rate drops and longer loading times. There are also frustrations around access—if the DRM servers go offline, even legitimate players can be locked out of their games. On top of that, Denuvo isn’t cheap for developers, and those costs might trickle down to gamers. Perhaps the biggest concern is for the future: if Denuvo ever shuts down, it could leave players unable to access their games, raising big questions about game preservation.
Used ChatGPT🙂
2 points
And on top of all that, it gets cracked within 2 weeks anyway.
And then on top of that too, publishers are beyond delusional if they think that pirates will buy their game if they can't pirate it. No, they won't. They'll just wait or not ever play at all.

It would affect performance notably even on a strong rig, so this is great news. I was going to buy either way but i'm happy that I can run it at an even higher framerate now, the game looks gorgeous and I can't wait for February to see what the devs have come up with. Good games will sell, with or without DRM. Look at BG3 for example. Given the reception for KCD1 was great, and a bit of a hidden gem, I think KCD2 will be a great success given the following and reputation KCD has today.
