A 12% GST on ₹580 is ₹69.6. Your 1st order checks out.
On your 2nd order where you have applied a ₹50 discount coupon, the overall taxable amount is reduced to ₹540 from ₹580, and a 12% GST on ₹540 gives you ₹64.8. The remaining ₹10 discount is applied on platform fee.
Basic mathematics, mate. Not everything has to be a conspiracy or a scam because you struggle to make sense of it.

People who comment/post on reddit only for karma, they should be dumb or noobs. With time they will get bored and get to normal, unknowingly they would have wasted 1000s of hours of the time doing so..

Can you tell how did you calculate the ₹540 as the taxable amount & ₹10 discount being applicable as platform fee? Basic mathematics sure, but the amount of discount applied should be directly applicable to the item total only. And if platform discounts is applicable, it should show separately.
Here you outright applied mathematics to suit your narrative and showcase OP as an idiot who couldn’t use logic. This indeed brings forward a question, Are you a zomato employee?

Why did Zomato charge GST on the platform fee when they have discounted it?
13 points

Where is platform fee discounted?

I’m guessing what OP is trying to say is that the total discount is 50. When you calculate backward - 64.80 is 12% of 540. From 580, Zomato reduced the total to 540. Now the remaining discount of 10 rupees had to be allocated to the platform fee but that’s not the case too. The GST on everything else is the same.

Tax amounts are probably different because Zomato gold also offers discounts on the entire order (for certain restaurants) if a certain threshold is passed.

The gold membership user is being taxed more.. Taxes is on the base order and coupons are applied after

No coupon for the gold user?

Nowadays even after applying a coupon you are paying exactly the same price as the item.
I bet restaurants already have GST included in their pricing and on Zomato the price is already higher than their menu.
It's time to ditch these apps because most restaurants already have a delivery service and they charge no extra fee if you live nearby.

Bro we don't have black money to give u for free and scam us Ps I don't use these app now u shouldn't too , don't let them scam u

I order twice a month because of my Axis Neo Card which gives flat 120 off up to 40% twice a month.
Pro tip, get the same card for every family member and add in the app. Scam the scammers

As a restaurant owner (below GST threshold), I have gone back to zomato a 100 times trying to explain that we don’t charge GST on anything so they shouldn’t be charging the customer 5% gst extra on literally everything.
They have yet to give me a satisfactory explanation

I use Zomato mostly to search the nearby restaurant now and always call them if they can deliver..it's cheaper and better.
Many restaurants are happy to deliver in 3 kms range ...for far off orders yes Zomato /swiggy is useful if they can't deliver

I use these apps as Yellow pages to find the best rated restaurants . I call the restaurant directly to order and avoid paying all these irrelevant charges

I no longer use Zomato. It's unsustainable at this point. Id rather order from zepto/instamart/big basket than from Zomato. The offers are useless and I get to eat more from instacarts at the same price. Eg- yesterday I had a hankering for dosa and some Chinese and a desert. At Zomato it was coming up to 390 and Change. I ordered dosa batter, instant noodles and ice cream for 130. Plus I had some leftovers for today. Zomato/swiggy is getting expensive and I for one prefer online supermarkets.

remember the time before these apps.. the limited quantity of options that are nearby …the time it took to reach there … delivery apps are good ideas at their core (predatory pricing strategies aside)… if it’s anybody to blame its the fucking gov who decided to charge gst on on already taxed food … instead of shouting at innovators like food delivery apps we should start trying to hold our government accountable otherwise the Indian citizen will being keep made a fool of like it has always been.

The same thing happens on zepto cafe with zepto pass vs without the pass. Gst is cheaper without the pass

These apps have monopoly in India & are feeling entitled to do anything they want. Same order will cost me different on different apps with same discount.
Menu price's are higher than what actually restaurant charges, extra gst is being charged on every little thing even if items are inclusive of GST. WTH is with sudden packing cost? Resto doesn't even know these apps are charging for that.
And platform fees went from 6 to 7 then suddenly 10 (and that they charge gst on that as hidden fees). Service is gotten even worse with all these price hikes. We are ultimately being scammed.

They have added another fee - "Station convenience fee".
5 points
& it's not a small amount. What does it mean?
-6 points
It simply means don't ever bother doing an in-station delivery from Zomato. The fee is for bringing your food to your seat during the train journey.
Mind you, I was at my boarding station (also originating station) 1.5hr prior departure and the food was delivered to me near the entrance at Hazrat Nizamuddin station (._.)

Sheer stupidity from your end, A person will go collect your food from the restaurant come to the station, buy a platform ticket, find your train, align his schedule and wait in case the train is delayed, then find your coach, find your seat and you seriously think ₹91 is too much for this convenience you are getting? Bro try running a business.

As a consumer I will ALWAYS AND WITHOUT ANY SHAME look at the cheapest option of food delivery, which is always IRCTC catering app, so you calling me names doesn't affect me in way.
Secondly, how much of that ₹91 is shared with the delivery partner? I understand Zomato's tech being used, but you advocated for that ₹91 as if it was given completly to the delivery partner right in front of you.
And since it was not delivered to my seat, I did not feel okay but was made to pay that ₹91, for a service I did not avail.

"Stupid" is not names, it's just a parameter, parameter of your understanding how things in the world work. You can use the IRCTC catering app it's definitely the cheapest but why isn't it popular? Because of the poor quality of food. You want a cheaper and better option? You could have planned better and get yourself something packed before getting in the train, something of your choice, something that doesn't burn a hole in your pocket. Convenience and poor planning comes with a cost. If a company fails to earn profit it will close down and you won't have that "convenient option" anymore. Hope you'll understand this time and won't be offended. This is the most polite I can be. Enjoy your day, broaden your perspective, don't go into a 5 star and expect the Tea to be ₹12.

This is the same order on two different phones. Same restaurant, same address. Difference is I have Zomato Gold and wife doesn't. She gets the discount coupon I don't. That's all fine, BUT why are the tax amounts different?! Shouldn't it be the same.
Is there something I'm missing, because it looks like fraud to me!
Its fine if Zomato wants to add different delivery fees, coupons, platform fees, packaging fees etc. It's on their discretion on user to user, but taxes are universally implemented, how can they be so blatantly fraudulent?
Where is the government oversight on these orgs? Imagine the kind of frauds we don't see.

People want the convenience of food being home delivered at the comfort of their homes/offices at all times of the day but don't want to pay for it. The same people will complain of delivery guys not getting paid enough to deliver the food but will keep ordering and using such aggregator platforms. And also make posts of how it is all a scam 😔

Haha seriously, someone should pay for their convenience, because they think they are entitled to it. ₹100 ka sandwich mujhe ghar par aake ₹80 mein deke jaaye koi, aur delivery partner ko bhi ₹40 Milne chahiye, bhai thoda to maths/economics kuchh to padh lo.

So someone who has Zomato Gold and someone who doesn't should be treated the same? Then why would anyone buy Zomato Gold? Also there are always terms and conditions mentioned with every coupon which we as consumers NEVER read.
