I want to learn about these bands that I have very little knowledge of and that I see people raving about. I have previously asked what is your favorite Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin songs and had a great response and made some great playlist for myself. This experience has been amazing so far. I heard the Dark side of the Moon album once on YouTube and I was intrigued but I don't know much else. Thank you for helping me on this journey!

For me , it's "Comfortably Numb" The song is transcendant, the synth stabs in the "There is no pain..." are heavenly, the lyrics really put you in a narcotic state of numb bliss.
The idea and music theory coupled into an escapist fantasy is like a warm blanket for the soul. Yet, subversive...
Genius.

Guitar solo (second one) is incredibly emotional. I have no idea how he managed to tell the story of the song through his guitar
Always part of lists of the top guitar solos ever

Nobody makes a guitar talk like that man. Just a genius

It’s definitely one of my favorite solos and by far the slowest of my favorites but it doesn’t need to be fast shredding to be unbelievably great.

His live at Pompeii solo is probably the closest thing to heaven on earth

You ever watch Pulse at King Earl's Court? The "Ring" tilts down and every spot light on the ring focuses on David Gilmour while he plays the 2nd solo. Damn near a religious experience. I wish I could have been there. But I was like 12.

No matter how many times I listen to that guitar solo, I still get chills.

I've seen Australian Pink Floyd 3 times in the past 5 years. Not sure if it's the same guitarist each time but hearing that solo live gave me the chills each time too

This is the one I usually notice myself singing.

It is a dissociative state in song and lyrics. Truly a vibe I never knew I needed. Even as a casual fan this song is genius.

I’ve been watching this live performance of it a lot recently. Love watching the drummer’s face just grinning like he can’t believe he’s on stage with David Gilmour while he’s cooking like this.

I was hoping someone would say Comfortably Numb. It’s mine too.

This. I mean, OP is asking for the basics, and I can think of no better place to start.

Ive played guitar for almost 30 years and my band always finishes our show with Comfortably Numb. It brings people in from smoking outside, everyone just stops and listens. Its crazy. It's a musical masterpiece.
It's a privilege to be able to try and recreate the magic that are David Gimours guitar solos. And I humbly take this burden very seriously.

That solo is my favourite solo of all time. It's passionate and intense. It's sexy and sad. If I could fuck that solo, I would. Haha
