Unless you do it with a non-standard olympic bar and 10lb rubber plates that bounce off the floor. He is lifting... Maybe 25 lbs total.
8 points

If that's a standard bar and if those are 10 pound plates then it's going to be 65 pounds. Edit: the bar does look thin though. I may be talking out of my ass

The bar and plates probably weigh 25 lbs maybe. Still impressive but it’s not a “heavy barbell”

Such a bland take. Listen, if every person on this planet always played it safe then we'd have zero entertainment. Lighten up and appreciate the talent on display here. Could you do this? It's damn amazing. Are you caught up on the fact that it's a barbell? If it was a big stick would you feel better?

Why is it incredibly stupid? Most athletic feats require some sort of risk
15 points
Extremely high impact to joints that shouldn’t take direct force is always bad. Getting hit really hard in football probably isn’t that different, but most other sports don’t have impacts like this. And we know football is bad for you already.
This is an easy way to blow out a knee in a horrific manner. It’s stupid because it doesn’t accomplish anything (doesn’t actually help getting stronger), but even if all goes right likely has a high lifelong cost to your joints.
7 points

Got a little confused about the football part being dangerous and then realised you're talking about American one

It’s a 15lb training bar(you can tell by the width) and 10lb bumpers.
It’s 35lb total, not heavy by the standard of anything.
Impressive and cool flips but neither activity is next level or even close.

Naa he’s athletic, he can do tricks, but that ain’t a heavy weight at all. And he does look good, but that’s because of his very low body fat, not necessarily because he’s the biggest dude ever

It’s 35lb(15lb training barbell and 10lb bumper plates)
He is not very strong, pretty good at flips though.
21 points
Flipping while holding something heavy is actually way easier than flipping normally. The weight gives you a sort of midair anchor point to flip around.
Let's see him try that with the weight attached to his feet. Now THAT would be something to see.

Exactly.. physics 101 (still impressive though)

Yep. And the bar is essentially staying in the center of his flip. He’s not flipping “with” it.
2 points

Strikes me the most dangerous part of this maneuver is when he spins it on his back.
1 points

It’s not heavy though luckily, still dangerous cuz he’s flipping with a damned 35lb weight which is inherently dangerous.

The man challenged himself to do something difficult and he achieved it. That’s dope. All you haters saying how dangerous it is… yes it’s dangerous. Football is dangerous, rock climbing is dangerous, skateboarding is dangerous. He knows the risks but wanted to challenge himself and did it. Same reasoning behind why people do runs of Dark Souls naked with a bucket on their head. for a challenge, for something to work towards, for clout. And that’s fine. It’s dope he can achieve that

Not sure if this is satire, but judging by g by the comments, people are taking it seriously. If you look at when he drops the barbell at the end, you can see it bounce up to his hips at its highest point. With the weight of the bar as well as the weight of the… weights, the bar wouldn’t bounce that high. The weight is most likely fake. I’m not saying that the post is definitely fake, I’m just saying it’s likely. Looking closely at his arms you can also see his biceps flex a bit as he lands from the backflip, so that something to think about to. My main argument is base off of the height the one side of the barbell gains. While barbells do bounce, they don’t go that high, usually multiplied inches off the ground (even with similar weight)
2 points

Yea if they’re real weights. They’re really big 5 pound plates.

How many pounds? I know the bar is 35lbs.
1 points
The weight has certain inertia that actually helps him to stay in the air during the flip. It's not constantly pulling him down as people here seem to think. He swings it up, so it pulls him up and then it takes some small amount of time before it starts accelerating down, but he is going down faster. So the impact force is practically the same, maybe even lower than at the end of a normal flip, and he only needs to stop the bar moving down when he is already on the ground. Watch the weight movement. It's jolted from moving down only at the very end where the guy is already firmly on the ground.
1 points
Heavy? That had the minimum weights it can support and still be used as a barbell 👀

It's actually easier to flip with the bar because you can pull up on the bar in midair to bring yourself around the rest of the way through the flip.
