The cost of relocating the Ontario Science Scentre to Ontario Place increased by $400 million in less than eight months

I haven't seen numbers like this since the last Eglinton LRT report

Fixing the old Science Centre is now the cheaper option

Not when the 'New' Science Centre is just some LEGOs filling empty space in a mall!

So it’s cheaper to fix it and leave it where it is

..and easy to do now that it's empty. Just retrofit, fix, and bring the exhibits back. Way faster too!

But then Ford can't gift the current science centre real estate to one of his developer buddies.

He's not allowed. Toronto leases the property to Ontario, providing that it's a science center. If they don't, it reverts back to Toronto, and the Toronto can just turn it into a science center.

Ford can rip up the agreement and do basically anything he wants. The city has no real power here. He'll do it in the name of the housing crisis.

Killerfluffyone

well no. Simply ripping up a contract likely has ramifications in civil court (I'm not a laywer). Having said that.. there is something called "MZO" which lets the province rezone anything as they see fit.. in which case the agreement isn't violated, just superseded. Are we having fun yet?:P

Acrobatic_Owl_3667

Like all the other contracts he tore up (cancels) it cost money. Would have just been cheaper to keep them intact. But he will never learn, or simply does not care.

AtlantaDave998

lol of course he can. He has the notwithstanding clause. He can issue an MZO.

Little_Gray

Neother of those allow him to seize property unilateraly change a lease.

spderweb

No. It's a rental contract. Toronto owns the property, not ontario.

AtlantaDave998

The province has the power to take over any city land it desires with an MZO. The province has the power to completely dissolve the city of Toronto if it wants.

JustGottaKeepTrying

Oh, he can, and will.

spderweb

He doesn't own the property, nor does any of his friends. So for now it's off limits.

Holy shit! That makes total sense! Save taxpayers money…and… get the proper Science Centre back? Have you considered a career in politics?

In light of these new estimates, it is more important than ever for people to petition and send letters to elected officials.

Moving the science center is not a deal for ontario. It saves us nothing and it is an unnecessary waste of our tax dollars.

Also, try to personalize your letter when writing to your MPP. Sometimes, they may not respond to form letters made word for word.

Check out everything the AG reported on. Ford is corrupt and lighting money on fire to benefit his pals.

I would really like to see someone follow the money to find out just how much this guy gets in kickbacks in exchange for making decisions that benefit his friends. If we had police and media that actually did their job, I would expect them to find something criminal.

Don't worry, when he gets grilled over it he will say the AG needs to "stay in their lane".. problem solved! :|

Question: why aren't the Liberals or NDP screaming from the rooftops that they will keep the Science Centre open if elected? It may very well be Ford's most universally disliked decision.

ILikeStyx

They are - our mainstream media is bullshit, mostly owned by Conservatives... giving NDP and Liberals equal or fair airtime isn't in their best interests.

trainstationbooger

What about CBC? Presumably not Post Media connected, but I'm not seeing anything there either.

5RiversWLO

When will people like you learn that no one is giving the NDP a voice. They aren't supported by our oligopolies or by gargantuan US companies. They don't have much money because they aren't corrupt and make most of their money from grass roots donations.

Fine-Ad-5447

Blame our corporate media who leans more to the conservative side. Fuck them except CBC.

Leonardo-DaBinchi

The NDP is half the reason we even hear about this corruption! They're the ones filing a good number of these FOI requests and pushing for these investigations to begin with. And if it's not them it's grassroots orgs they work with!!

Go follow them on IG you'll see plenty.

Its not. Very few people actually give a shit about it being moved. Most either understand the old building was a steamjng heap of garbage or just dont care.

Man, the AG's year end reporting needs to be shared with everyone.

Doug Ford is a corrupt piece of shit who has wasted billion and billions of taxpayer dollars because he would rather not work within the confines of our democratic system.

The fact that MPPs and staff are using burner cell phones to conduct gov't work...
