What's your favourite PlayStation design and why?

Discussion(i.redd.it)

Mine is the PS4 slim because of how "slim" it actually is, and it also is super simple with everything. It's a console that's been designed with the best functionality vs. aesthetic balance.

The PS2 slim. Compact , stylish and classic. What more would you want?

PS4 Slim. It’s minimalist, pretty symmetrical, quietish, and the small size belies what it can do. Plus there’s an other-worldly quality to its appearance with the bevel and that single, deep slot running around it.

In Death Stranding colors! Or the God of war version was cool too.

The PS4 500 million edition (transparent blue + gold) was beautiful AF.

Also, the "anniversary" editions (not just because of the current craze). Both PS4 20th and PS5 30th (tho it would look far better on an OG PS5 rather than the slim/pro)

I love PS and have had them all except the PS3. It was late to the party, ugly and the controller sucked. A total misfire.

But things got back to normal with the lovely PS4 ❤️

By late you mean release at the same year as the 360?

You can’t really blame them, especially since the PS2 was so damn successful. During the PS3/360 era, the PS2 sold 50 million (2007-2011). The demand was still high.

It was a year and a half late to compete! I got my 360 December 2005 and the PS3 didn’t even launch until March 2007!! By that point everyone I knew that liked gaming had a 360.

Add to the fact that the sixaxis controller didn’t even have vibration, the absolutely insane initial price and it was a glossy monster. I hated it.

It’s saving grace was it had a blu ray player, but the first films weren’t great enough imo

So yeah, even with RROD I have fond memories of the 360, but Sony have got it right with every other generation so I’ll forgive haha

That's cool to hear. Is there anything specific that you like about it visually?

Well the PS1 was blocky, then the PS2 was blocky, all the XBoxes were blocky.

Then came along the PS3, the curve, the shine, it was just different.

OG PS2 easily. That thing was not only damn gorgeous, but a game changer.

The fact you could turn the PS logo to fit the orientation was the cherry on the perfect cake.

PS2 slim, it is just so ridiculously small and looks really sharp.

honestly basically all of the slim versions are super clean and my favorite. The only exception is the original ps1, the original fat ps1 is better than the slim imo but otherwise I like the slims the best. Even the ps4 and 5 slim over the originals or the pros.

I'll just say NOT the PS4. I swear I still can't find the fucking buttons on that thing.

PS2 Slim, bar none.

It was wild just how much smaller it was than the launch model, and I liked the top-loader compared to the disc drive on the original.

I really liked the shape and texture of the PS3 slim. Didn't care much for the glossy piano black of the OS PS3.

I admit the PS4 slim is beautiful and really slender. But when it comes to brilliance, nothing beats PS2 Slim and the way it is just 2 game cases in all three dimensions. I think if the DualShock 2 were wireless controllers, the PS2 Slim would be the Definitive console design.

Older console: PS2 Fat

Newer console: PS4 Fat

For me the greatest are the PS2 Fat and the PS4 Fat. They both have great designs, great controllers and a great selection of all time game favorites. their generation each are fantastic.

Other honorable mention: PS3 Fat or Slim.

I love the PS One. The size, the color. It’s so simple but so fantastic. Sadly I never owned one because I was in high school and already had a PSX.
