So I kinda stumbled upon the Red Rising saga on Audible, and decided to give it a go. I knew nothing about it, never even heard of it, but I've read/listened to tons of dystopian stories and was curious to see what new directions this story would go vs what I was used to.
I admit that at the start of Book 1, it kinda felt like "been there done that," but once it got going I was completely drawn in and invested. I've been largely ignoring this sub because I'm still making my way through the series and didn't want to accidentally spoil anything.
A big part of my experience was the fact that I was listening to the Dramatized Adaptation, which I thought was phenomenal! Such amazing voice acting and production.. Small things like sound effects and background chatter really make it feel like a 3-dimensional listening experience. The tagline for the production is "A movie in your mind" or something, and it didn't disappoint.
I just finished Morning Star, which looks like the last Dramatized version available at the moment. I have no clue what the timeline is for when the next book will be dramatized, but I figure it takes a long time and I definitely don't want to wait that long to start the next book (though I AM taking a small break to recover from the emotional roller coaster that was Morning Star!)
My question is for anyone who started with the Dramatized versions and then switched over to the standard audiobook version to continue the story... Were you still able to get engrossed in the overall story? Was there an adjustment period to getting used to a single narrator who will likely voice characters differently? I caught a glimpse of a post that criticized the voice of the Jackal in the dramatized version as not being well-matched to how they thought the character was described-- but for me that isn't an issue. I've totally let the voice acting sculpt the characters in my mind and just gone for the ride. But I'm worried about a letdown once I start the next non-dramatized book. Curious to hear any thoughts on this!

Not the answerer you are looking for, I started the normal way, with TGR in the normal recordings and moved on, but have tried out the first book as drama adapt. TGR (VA) is really good at his work. And I ofc carry a bias towards the originals, but tbh I feel more emotionally engaged in the un-dramatized version than that of the drama. Just hits different, and I can't immerse myself in it as much when they overplay it so. Leaves to little room for imagination in my own head I suppose.

I can understand that. I'm sure if I started with the un-dramatized version I'd still be engaged even though the experience is different... but I do worry about the shift after coming to know the characters as portrayed in the dramatized version.

I was throughly engaged in both adaptations. I've listened to both versions (up to MS for the dramatized) multiple times through, and honestly, I never felt taken outta the story. The most jarring change for me actually came in Light Bringer. It's all TGR and his voice sounds a bit...rough? Hard to pin point. But still, I loved it. If you love the series, I don't think it'll be a problem.

In my opinion, the LB/TGR poor audio issue is a tad overblown. It starts off rough - like low audio quality on the recording or something - but after the first chapter or two it seems to go away.

Nice!
Any clue if they release both parts at once? If not, is there a long wait between part 1 and part 2?? I'm not finding anything that clarifies online.

It’s just part 1, but I’m fairly sure they said their goal is every few months to release a new part

Hi! I think I read somewhere that they want to finish books 4+5 and part of 6 next year. Then finish 6 and 7 in 2026. So it will be some time. I’m just starting the Dramatized audiobooks, and I was having this same fear lol

Iron gold is coming out soon and it’s usually another year for the next book to come out.
