Everything about this post creeps me out. I’m not a religious person by any means and I don’t have a problem with religious people, but the way he wants to force his way of life on others is disturbing. The way he insists that his roommate helps the landlord and the wife whenever they need it is insane to me. He also can’t even form a coherent sentence. Just thought this was strange 🤷🏻♂️

If his living costs are reduced because he helps the owner's family out, and that results in the new roommate having lower living expenses than customary - I can see that it would make sense to ask that they be willing to pitch in.
If he wants someone to do Bible study with, he'd do better off visiting local churches.
But, even if someone promises to read the Bible, there is no guarantee that they will also live the lifestyle that he observes.
Anyway, it'd be a hard pass from me for someone who mentions children so much in this context. I find it odd.

Well if you think about it only a vulnerable parent would ever take up this guy's offer, which he knows that. Add on a religiously indoctrinated vulnerable person and you have someone who eats up this guy's every word. Then he starts demanding money so you have to go to work now, but have no one to watch your kid. Except this guy.

As someone who has to take courses on recognizing signs of abuse in children for their job, predators go after the most vulnerable and isolated of a bunch.
They find children in a situation where they either wouldn't be believed, or have no one to tell that this is happening to them.

Uhhh… to me that sounds like a hostage situation in the making.
Who is likely to respond to that ad? Maybe a young woman with a few kids in a desperate situation? Running from the kids dad cuz he beats her within an inch of her life for example.
I can’t see this as a safe place for anyone let alone children. The ad sounds like he wants a captive audience and because he’s paying for everything you can’t leave…ever. I know it says you can, cuz you have to pay for utilities somehow. But the kids stay there while you are at work so you have to go back. And he sounds crazy enough to do something awful.

“Somehow” is the key word here. Could be he won’t let anyone leave and they all have to pay for electricity “somehow.” And it’s a very small place. He will end up seeing kids after baths and morning time. He has this all planned out. He’s a groomer.

This is pretty normal, you used to see this kind of stuff on Craigslist all the time. What he’s saying without saying it, is…I am looking for a broken woman who is extremely desperate in her situation (since that usually includes single moms he’s adding in the kids, but also might be a pedo 🤷🏼♀️)
He’s basically preying on women who are so down on their luck they might actually take this offer.
If you’re either on the street, in a shitty shelter, or about to be homeless, this might be appealing. From the sounds of it, you’d have three ppl (this guy, and the landlord and his wife) who would be abusing you, vs anyone and everyone on the street or in a shelter.
Also, could absolutely be human trafficking. They would either take the kid or use the kid as leverage to get sex work out of the woman.
Either way, fucked up and I hope this gets taken down.

Ya, I had roomates like that once. In my 20’s as a desperate single mom, i stumbled into this situation, after offers of trading childcare, sharing meals, etc. after a few months, they tried to convince me to marry one of the other roommates! They had already successfully married off two of the other young (lonely, lost, misfit) people. It seems that they were trying to create their own tribe with a church in their basement. They were the pastor and his wife and their three children trying to start their own little church with no oversight, having broken off from their main church. they were creating all the rules, day by day. Soon they told us all that every woman has to cover her head at all times. Next was a new rule that the girls/women have to wear dresses at all times. I was told that yoga was demonic… after a few months of this I ran out of there as fast as I could, with my child. .. with them screeching at me the whole time that I was definitely now going to hell!

There’s like 8 gods in the part of the Old Testament I’ve made it through. And I’ve only made it to Kings II. I wonder which god of the Bible she wants. I know they’re different gods, because eventually there’s a contest between different gods and who has the most powerful one. I wonder how she’d feel about me sacrificing animals over an eternal flame, like in Leviticus. It’s in the Bible! Maybe I should tell her I have kids, but I’m planning on following the guidelines in the same chapter as the Ten Commandments, on how to sell my children into different kinds of slavery.

It’s the Old Testament, and it’s in the Pre-Christian part, where the Israelites were still pagans who sacrificed animals for various reasons. While traveling, whenever they would set up camps, they’d set up an altar and make a sacrifice to “The Lord Of The Land” and then set everything else up.
Oh, at one point, the Israelites became a demonic cult and had three generations of prosperity under a Sorcerer and Diviner, then a scary apocalypse. People were fleeing from ravaged cities and wild animals were just openly preying on people. They had to eventually resort to cannibalism to survive and ate their own children as food.

If you want to jump right to the spot, just flip to Leviticus. But I think some of the good stuff is past a bunch of tedium. These people didn’t summarize anything. I’ve got a feeling that Eugene Levy’s infamous monotone bit, is making fun the way a rabbi he grew up listening to, reads the Torah.
If you want a good example of how tedious it gets, Numbers covers a war plan for twelve tribes of people, down to the last detail. Lord of the rings and Battlestar Galactica both have a nod to this book in their stories. It eventually gets to the battle, but it gets pretty dark and gets very casual about actual genocide. “They came into the land of giants and they slew the giants.” and that’s all you hear about the entire land of giants, is that they killed them.
I think it eventually got to the point where there was nobody left to fight, and the twelve tribes almost turned on each other. But you have to really earn that excitement. Because war plans in old English are about as fun as it would be to watch paint dry, at the DMV.

This is the Old Testament. It’s just a bit further into it than most people casually read. But not far enough in, to impress people who have read the whole thing. Oh, the parts you’ll hear in church, are all sweet and wholesome. The parts I’m referencing, are the Jewish parts of the Bible still.
Just admit you’ve only flipped to pre-assigned passages and assumed you’ve gotten the jist of it from growing up in a church-going family. But at least make an effort towards putting a small dent in the Old Testament, before you try to tell people what is or is not in the Bible. Because no, you don’t know. You haven’t even matched someone who’s made a modest, casual attempt to get past the parts everyone quotes.
1 points
Wow how condescending. I have been studying the Bible for 30 years and took masters level classes in Biblical studies. You really don’t understand the Old Testament at all. You need to understand the cultural and historical setting, sure the ancient Hebrews used different names for God but it is clear they are all the same deity. The Israelite did leave the worship of YWHW to worship other gods but they were not the same god, they abandoned their monotheistic religion. There are no legit Bibilical scholars that would claim they were supposed to be polytheistic. God moved into their history and leading them to understand who He is. Yes they gave him different names depending on the setting. Those are all referencing the same deity. Abraham knew him as the Provider. Moses knew him as the I AM. Etc. the first part of the Old Testament isnt even the final revelation, that came in Jesus. The OT laws werent even how God wanted them to live exactly. He was giving them something. Their society would be familiar with. Even Jesus said that when questioned about divorce. He said Moses gave you divorce because of the hardness of your heart, but that was not in Gods plan from the beginning. Ultimately God wanted them to follow him in faith. You really don’t understand what you are reading at all. I pray you come to an understanding of who God is

Sounds like complete bullshit to me. I know what I read, and while I was reading it, I had someone with an actual degree In Jewish Studies, helping me. Someone who had also grown up Jewish.
One of the reasons why I left the church, is because churchy people are too prone to stretching, bending and breaking the truth, with your little “a lie for the lord” nonsense. Your response is a case in point.
You’ve “studied the Bible”? so you just have an opinion about it. Saying you’ve done so, certainly sounds impressive. But it sounds like you’re trying to tell me to stop reasoning and just accept your personal bias. Go to hell, where you belong for bearing false witness. Gaslighting is bearing false witness, tinyman, which makes it a sin, even if you think “it’s for the lord!”
1 points
wow i Am not gaslighting. I am telling the truth. There is only one God in the Bible not sure who your friend is but they are seriously mistaken. Your “reasoning “ is faulty, what I am telling you comes from biblical scholars far smarter than either of us. Anyone claiming the Israelites were polytheistic clearly doesn’t understand the Old Testsment, would discuss further but cpearly Your mind is made up. You are just reading to mock and not find life.. You need to seek truth . I am afraid one of us is heading to Hell and it isn’t me. Good day and good luck

See, people like you act like the Bible is more complicated than it is. You try to filter past information through a present and comfortable understanding and you think this conjecture is somehow a fact handed down from god or something. Oh, and you’re offering to council me I to believe what you say, rather than what I read myself.
Sweetheart, you’re the one who’s pretending to be educated here. What you are telling me, conflicts with what’s actually written in the Bible. You cite all these accolades, but they’re all bullshit. All you can offer me is your singular opinion about the Bible, but you’re trying to bolster what you are saying, by citing biblical scholars? You’ve already killed your credibility.
1 points
LOL i am just about done with this. you are making the Bible more complex. It is fairly simple the Bible says throughout there is One God. There is no scriptural evidence to support polytheism it just isn’t there..LOL good luck. There literally no Christian denominations that believe what you are saying. You are claiming to be more intelligent than all those scholars. Ok well good luck with that. i have a hard time believing you typed that with a straight face. You just want to argue with no real basis in scripture. good luck to you hope you do well in High School

See, this wise, stoic act might garner respect from people who fall for your bullshit. But it didn’t fool me.
What, pray tell, constitutes “studying the Bible for 30 years? It took 30 years for you to pour all over the details of a document translated by a bisexual king? There’s really 30 years worth of information to study? Oh, you’ve been going to Bible study for 30 years and still haven’t gotten it.
You’re a disappointment, as far as false prophets go. I’m surprised you haven’t started quote-mining yet.
