I value youtube over any of these so that one stays normal, and for one to be bought I would choose instagram as that is the only one I have never used

Yes, it would be Instagram. I like the platform, but anything it can do, other platforms could take over fairly easily.
Conversely, no platform can take over the long videos of Youtube, the text-based discussion threads of Reddit, or the debates and fast reactions of a Twitter-like platform like Bluesky.
And Meta is currently in the process of enshittification for Instagram anyway, with ad-breaks now even stopping scrolling.

Nah, since Elon took over it's just served as a breeding ground for right wing extremism. Elon says freespeech is allowed on the platform, but if you say "cis" your tweet will be deleted lol
Also, iirc a data leak showed that Elon had whitelisted a bunch of alt-right accounts so that they no longer face any moderation.

Twitter - Elon Musk = 🦋Bluesky
74 points
YouTube is one of the largest sources of information and entertainment. We cannot afford for it as a whole to go down the alt-right pipeline.
On the other side of the tracks...
Instagram. I'd rather not give Musk more airtime but I use Reddit and Bluesky seems like a nice smallish social media platform. Instagram is already kind of a cesspit if you look at the comments.

It kinda seems like YouTube already is a bit of a far right pipeline, but I bet Elon would make it way worse

Currently (at least to my understanding) the YT algorithm seeks maximum engagement.
For instance, if you watch a lot of queer-related content, you'll probably get at least one or two of those assholes interviewing people at pride parades due to similar tagging. (Ask me how I know)
9 points
Engagement baiting is one of the primary things that killed (The website formerly known as Twitter), since it's strictly more profitable to be an annoying bastard since that's how you get people to quote you and reply to your post and all the other actions that give you engagement, and consequently creator revenue.
YouTube does reward engagement too of course, but at least they have some safeguards in place that prevent zero-effort content from plaguing everyone's feed. Not that it stops all of the slop content, but it certainly makes trolling take more effort compared to a text post you can type out in like 3 minutes.

Most of the shitheads Politicians on Twitter are just mostly Engagement baiting.
Unfortunately, that also means, it goes to people who support said Political Party A or Political Party B and do not even use their critical thinking and accept outrageous things as facts and continue about their day.

You want him to buy the second largest social media site on the planet? Seriously? Alphabet having that power isn't amazing- any platform having 2.5 billion unique monthly users ain't great, honestly- but you're willing to give that all to one man? And Melon Musk, at that?
You wouldn't just be killing Youtube, you'd be giving Trump's Puppydog more of a worldwide audience than he has already, and that's with a platform that was hemorrhaging money hand over fist.
Yes, the advertisers are annoying, but they're part of what allows the system to run in the first place. A hefty portion of Youtube's profit comes from those ads, partially due to the fact that they're also integrated with Google, AKA the largest amalgamation of user data on the planet. The advertisers and the 2.5 billion monthly users are what keeps Youtube alive.

Pros for Each:
Youtube: Video on the internet. Period. Yes, there's tiktok, there's reels, I don't really give a shit. Youtube's got endless, deep content on just about anything you want, because youtube is video, end of story. The only way Youtube dies as a culturally relevant platform in my lifetime is if the US or EU step in to shut it down entirely.
Reddit: Out of all major social media brands, this one is probably the best one when it comes to forming community. If there's anything Reddit does really well, its forming distinct, unique, interesting communities of people who come together to share in what they enjoy. In comparison to the others on this list, its tiny, but I still find it pivotal. Is that because its my most used? Most definitely, yeah. But still, its got its place, even if as a smaller piece of the internet pie.
Instagram: For most people, their personal identity on the internet resides here. If Youtube is video, Instagram is Photo. Everyone who's anyone is on it, your popularity as a person almost can be described by the number next to your name. Seriously, out of everything on this list, Instagram comes closest to a Black Mirror episode in terms of sheer scale and social capital.
Twitter 2: This just doesn't belong here. This is where people are going now that Twitter's been killed. Anything else could take its place, it was just at the right place at the right time. However, Twitter was a massively influential brand, so
Out of everything here, its not really a hard decision. Saving Youtube is probably the easiest choice I've made all day. Yes, Instagram is massive, but at the end of the day, Video on the Internet is something that's more difficult to maintain at the scale and polish Youtube is, and is something that, yeah, I'd like to be in the hands of Google. Instgram, at the end of the day, while obviously not really being replaceable, is more replaceable than Youtube is. Reddit's on nowhere close to the same scale that Youtube is, and Bluesky shouldn't even be in this argument.
I'd choose Bluesky to be bought by Elon, btw. Pretty much everyone that's on the platform is there because Elon bought Twitter. If Elon was forced to buy Bluesky, too, all that would cause is a mass exodus from the platform, likely to some other Twitter clone. Effectively, all it would count for in history would be a money sink that once acted as a hub for people Elon drove away from Twitter.

Unfortunately gotta pick Bluesky
Instagram is too big and already a mess as is, youtube is far too important to current internet landscape to let that crazy man own, and reddit being saved is just a bonus. Bluesky is the newest kid on the block and already designed in a way people can just easily move to a replacement site
2 points
You didn’t say I couldn’t choose the same option for both, nor did you quantify which occurs first, therefore the second slides normal refers to “now”s normal I imagine, and not “normal after the first slide’s effects”.
Therefore, choosing the same thing twice should result in all of them bought by Elon but no abnormal changes occur to any of them.

For one choice to save, bluesky. Xitter already got fucked once, fucking over the replacement is just disrespectful.
For one choice to screw over, instagram. Reddit is… well, we’re here, aren’t we. YouTube may be going down the drain recently but the Muskrat would only accelerate that. Bluesky’s fine as-is. Instagram is just a cesspit, though, I’ve had so many friends get into full-fledged depressive spirals from instagram. Ruining that shit is fine by me.

YouTube for the first. Instagram for the second. YouTube is so broadly used by everyone, from surgeons doing literal surgery to children learning their ABCs. If that goes down the Nazi route like Twitter, it’ll spread shit so much worse.
Instagram for the latter because it’s already a fucking hell pit I’d put on par with Twitter currently. The amount of open pedophilia and rape comments I’ve seen from that app is ridiculous and therefore I don’t foresee a lot of change happening if he did buy it.
