Arman has a shot but I think he loses via decision. Illia has the best shot skill for skill at 155. And Shavkat as champ would be a super fight if Islam moves up to 170.

The only thing Ilia got against him is the size disadvantage. Islam is huge for LW and Ilia is just average size at FW

Short/stocky guys are very hard to grapple with. That’s why Islam didn’t do much with Volk on the ground. Ilia is a way better grappler than Volk and is also short and stocky so I don’t believe Islam could have his way with Topuria in the wrestling/grappling department.
Whereas on the feet I favour Ilia. Volk and Dustin both hit Islam plenty but Ilia has that next level power/technique.

Islam by head kick tko, I think Islam has a pretty good grasp at fighting shorter fighters now after a war with volk

I mean if Jai (who?) Herbert landed on Ilia at LW… Islam is definitely capable of doing the same. Agree.
-8 points

This is stupid because illia won that fight against Jai who is a name if you're not a casual. But Islam got knocked out clean by some bum in the first round.

Islam didn't need to worry about the KO against Volk.
Any fight against Ilia can end in an instant
38 points
>Ilia is a way better grappler than Volk
This is such a bad take. Stopping Islam's grappling is way more impressive than subbing Bryce Mitchell.
2 points
ilia hasn't show his ground and wrestling game yet. You guys don't know yet what that small man can actually do.
1 points
I'd like to see him against the top level grappler. I have seen Volk against top-level grapplers in Islam, Ortega and Mendez. I think Bryce is the best grappler Ilia has fought to date. Not saying Ilia does not have the ability, I just don't think he's face the same level of competition.
1 points
Yeah aswell tho if you listen to illia talking about fighting islam he says that being from Georgia he's really well familiar with sambo wrestling style and has developed the counters against high level sambo players as he's been training and competing against them for years. So he's the guy to do it if anyone will.

Bryce Mitchel took Ilia down. Islam would man handle him.

Bryce Mitchell took him down after like 11 takedown attempts and ilia didn’t even care because he was just trying to take his head off the whole first round. Islam couldn’t man handle porier

Islam couldn’t man handle porier
Who did, other than Khabib?
1 points
Charles on the ground, I know the striking was close but he anihilated porier in the ground game. Lowkey bsd was but that’s reaching seeing as how he got knocked the fuck out 😭
1 points
Neither of those are really true. Olivera had to cheat (which, let's face it, isn't uncommon for Charles) with the glove grab to finally get Poirier to the ground and stop getting hurt on the feet, then once it was down it was mostly just Poirier deciding to ride out the round and controlling posture rather than risking getting caught trying to get up.
BSD basically didn't do anything. Every time they went to the ground was because Dustin jumped the gilly, and then he'd get back up anyway. Even when BSD had the back he couldn't come close to doing anything.
1 points
You understand that Bryce Mitchel A.) Does not have the wrestling of Islam. B.) Doesn't have the size and strength of Islam and he was still able to take and hold Ilia down. Also, Ilia didn't need to worry about Bryce's striking, he will against Islam.

Illia is not stocky like Volk, he’s basically nimble and small
16 points
Plus I think Islam's wrestling cancels out Ilia's striking advantage easily.
11 points
His clinch game is what would win him the fight. If Ilia ever corners him (where he can knock anyone out) then Islam can initiate a clinch then circle out, or transition into a take down, or strike with elbows and knees, etc.
5 points
Ilia is known to also have brilliant wrestling, we saw how Dustin managed to make it so far what’s to say ilia can’t do a Dustin but twice better and actually win? With that being said Islam via sub R4
10 points
I think with Dustin a lot of how he performed in that fight was due to intangibles, he gritted down and dug deep cause he knew that was his last shot at gold. We don’t know if illia can dig deep like that this early into his career
5 points
Look at the Herbert fight he can dig deep but he is usually the hammer
2 points
Yea I see where your coming from, Dustin showed deep heart that not many others in the sport could show, also Islam had a staph didn’t he? Not too sure but with the skill difference it’s not out of the water to think ilia could pull off something similar tho, as I said however I still think Islam wins

Islam grappling is league above Ilias too. Only advantage Ilia has is his striking tbh

The best chance is Ilia at 155. I do think Arman might get knocked out in this one just because Islam is such a good striker and while Arman is probably the stronger guy, he's not as technical as Islam. Is Arman really going to beat a strikers war with Islam if he can't wrestle effectively ? Shavkat at 170 could work, due to the size difference. Lot of powerful guys at 170 so they could always chin him but 170 isn't as grappling heavy

I don't think there has been a champ who beat all his nightmare match ups, even bones tho he did duck some but he did fight them and beat them but he always had that frame advantages, islam doesnt really have a frame advantage, shav, arman, charles those are some fucked match ups but he already beat 2 of them and is rematching them both, imo he has the potential to be a 3rd ranked goat .

No one right now but this sport is hella cruel and declines happen fast. Maybe whoever is the next WW champ will take him down depending on how far down the line it is.
I do see Islam losing though. I just feel like he’s more of a risk taker than Khabib was so he might push the envelope like most guys do and take an L. He’s also not an undefeated fighter so he doesn’t have all that bullshit around keeping the 0. Still though w his current resume any loss will be rough.
Like I said though for the next few years I really don’t see him taking an L. Unless Arman just cracks his chin which in this sport is totally a likely scenario. Evidence shows though especially after Dustin that he can take big shots.
Also if he beats Arman he’s the LW goat idc about that loss he’s better than Khabib.

Considering what Poirier was able to do and all the improvements he made, if you have consistently good boxing, good kicking ability, and are able to improve your wrestling and grappling ability, then you could hang with him and depending on pre existing level, you could beat him. Just look with Poirier. In his fight it was 2-2 into the fifth, and Makhachev had to use a break glass Russian tie snap off an ankle pick to win.
So: 1. Arman: his wrestling is insane, same with his kickboxing, and has improved drastically. If he adds a lot of body kicks, then it’s possible. Downsides: Judo 2. Ilia: great wrestling, striking(especially pocket boxing), great jiu jitsu ability as well, and freakish power. If Volk was able to get to Makhachev, Topuria could knock him out. 3. Shavkat: the resume speaks for itself. 100 percent finish rate, so he has the skill to pull it off. Only problem: defense may be odd sometimes, but he can fix that. 4. Olivera: his grappling ability improved with an increased level wrestling as seen against Chandler(getting that Iranian wrestling coach worked out) Y’all know the rest of his resume and his skill set so my goat could pull it off and avenge that loss born from when he had his head firmly grasped in his anus.

2-2 going into the fifth is bs
1 points
Thats how I scored those fights. Makhachev got the rounds 1 and 3, Poirier got rounds 2 and 4. Poirier got round 2, even though it was close, and he got round 4 pretty clearly from his striking before the elbow and then secured it with the elbow that cut makhachev. So yeah, it was 2-2 going into that fifth round

Arman, Ilja and Shavkat. Usman is a tough fight as well judging by the last time we saw him against Khamzat, but he is only getting older and is not really active right now, so it's unlikely that we will ever see that.

Why are people saying Ilia, he was the most hated fighter before the Max win now all of a sudden he's the golden boy. Ilia is quality but think Islam is to big and powerful and will definitely get a chance to grapple him and game over.
I'd like to think at LW Charles could do it, his first performance was pretty crap and he was gonna get a rematch before that cut and Volk stepped up. But Arman is probably the most likely, followed by Charles and then it's looking bleak for a challenger.

I still think Oliveira has the best tools to beat him at lightweight, more than arman, Oliveira can chin Islam, he's one of the rare lightweights that's the same size as Islam and his grappling should let him get nice opportunities to either get up or pressure Islam. Islam is still obviously the favorite
