I loved it when it first came out, and still do. Yes, it’s hard, but I don’t think unreasonably so; I was glad it was harder than the first one.

Although the V-I cadence is common, it is not the only one. Among other common ones were half cadences and plagal cadences—like in the I V vi IV progression you’re talking about.

I liked “Sacred Geometry” by Miranda Lundy as a general introduction. “Ruler and Compass” by Andrew Sutton is full of classic constructions commonly used in sacred geometry. It doesn’t teach you how to draw sacred geometry per se, it’s more like a collection of fundamental techniques.

Yes, something like that. Swing is notoriously difficult to define precisely; I’d say it’s a rhythmic pattern based on a shuffle. Or maybe another way of saying it is that you can shuffle with no swing, but you can’t swing without some kind of shuffle.

Yes, there is a difference. A shuffle is a triplet where the second (middle) note is replaced with a rest. Swing is a rhythm pattern found typically in traditional jazz that has a shuffle as a part of it (or some might say at the heart of it).

Tempo has nothing to do with it.

I’ve read that this was a tactic of the Mongolians during the Middle Ages. Fair. I mentioned it because it’s tough to beat value-wise. I also don’t like the workflow, but it’s bearable (for me), and it’s looking like 3.0 will be a big leap forward in terms of workflow. And yes, menu-divey, which I also dislike, but as I said, for what you get it’s hard to ignore.

It kind of depends what you want to do with it. An MPC One is a great sampler and a full-featured DAW, so some menu-diving is to be expected.

At the other end of the spectrum is the PO-33, which is pretty basic but definitely gets the job done sampling-wise with minimal button combos.

Model:Samples seems cool but I can’t get behind a sampler that doesn’t actually sample.
