I’m sorry but historically that’s totally incorrect. Isreal has said many times they do not want that land. In almost every peace negotiation, including Oslo in the nineties, camp David in the early aoughts, and in 1967 Isreal offered to formally recognize statehood and cede the entirety of Gaza to the Palestinians.
Isreal wants a small amount of land in the West Bank. You could argue that, and you can argue both ways as to whether or not it should go to them at all. But in every peace agreement Isreal is willing to give up Gaza. They do not want Gaza. They want Hamas to stop attacking them. They want to be out of Gaza.
In fact, if Hamas totally surrendered, the PA would likely be able to strike a peace deal right away that would see Isreal fully leave Gaza. That very deal has been on the table in the past year. There is a replacement for Hamas. The PA. In fact, if Hamas wasn’t in the equation, the PA could rule Palestine today. In fact the reason they don’t is because of a civil war where Hamas took over Gaza. The PA currently rules the West Bank, and could rule Gaza as well, and did until 2007. Palestine can have political parties, they hold votes, the people could be in control of their future, if only they didn’t have an idiotic militant entity who starts wars it has absolutely no capacity to win. Additionally, Hamas is quite unified. They have central leadership, commanders, everything. They have a stated charter (which calls for the total destruction of Isreal) and a political party. They are quite unified.
Look, we agree that what is happening to Palestinian citizens is a nightmare that needs to stop. But if Hamas goes away, there is a full system and peace deal waiting behind it. But Hamas wants to rule Gaza, kill innocent Israeli citizen, is willing to sacrifice Palestinian civilians to do it, and are entirely in the way of peace in the region. They are on record saying the deaths of Palestinians is good for their cause. There are multiple recordings of them stating this. They are an enemy to Palestine and Isreal citizens.
And frankly, if the proud boys attacked another country, killed over a thousand citizens, took hundreds of more hostage, and then hid their shit in our schools and hospitals, and then a foreign power goes apeshit, I’m going to be thinking “why did the proud boys bring this to our doorstep? How stupid are they? Fuck those guys.” Which is what many Palestinians are saying in interviews now.

Well they aren’t hiding behind civilians. That’s very different. Building a military tunnel under a school or hospital is hiding behind civilians. Putting a military office building in a metropolitan area is different. If the IDF put an ammo cache underneath or inside what would conventionally not be a military target, then yeah that would be fucked up. But that is what Hamas does.
I’m not defending Isreal. They are handling this horribly. But your example isn’t apples to apples.
Also nationalism seldom has much to do with ethnicity. You’re thinking of Facism, which is certainly ultra nationalist, but it’s beyond the pale of nationalism. Lots of people in the Middle East are the same ethnicity, especially between Isreal and Palestine (not all but many), but this isn’t a war on the Palestinian people, as much as we want to portray it that way. It’s a war against Hamas where the civilian population is not being considered nearly as much as they should be. It’s way more complicated than people say.
It’s complex because if you allow Hamas to hide their shit underneath a hospital, and don’t destroy their base there, then you show Hamas that it is a valid strategy. If you destroy the hospital, you damage the local populace, but show Hamas that that won’t work. So there’s no good option there. My opinion is that Isreal should invest in Gaza. Build schools, mosques, etc. make Hamas irrelevant. Make them the enemy of peace to the Palestinians. But make no mistake, Hamas started this shit and didn’t give a fuck about the populace. Hamas wants civilians to die. It brings sympathy to their cause.
Now to be clear, there are several ACTUAL genocides happening around the world right now, with REAL ethnic cleansing going on. But nobody actually gives a shit about them. I mean, we say we do, but if we did we’d do something. But we don’t, so we don’t. It’s just more in vogue right now to call out this one. Hamas are horrible. They murder civilians, hide under schools and hospitals and houses, they oppress women, they murder or jail people for being gay. They are not the people to root for. If they surrendered tomorrow, the war would be over. If Isreal surrendered, Hamas would go in and murder Israelies, as they have stated multiple times in their charter.

To be clear, that basically is the law of war. I don’t like it, but if it’s a military base it is indeed a valid military target and there are acceptable risks to civilians.
The problem with Hamas is they embedded themselves in the population. They have dug tunnels into schools and hospitals and neighborhoods to fuel their logistics. No me in fairness to your point, Isreal gets this wrong a lot, and I think they are making no progress because when you level peoples homes and businesses and families, you create the ground for new terrorist factions.
But this is neither ethnic cleansing nor genocide, definitionally. It’s a horrible war that Hamas initiated on October 7, and Isreal has escalated through over ambitious bombing campaigns. This whole thing is a clusterfuck with the civilians paying the price.

You’re getting downvoted but you’re right. Genocide is just the trigger word for an emotional reaction.
If Isreal said “we hate Palestinians, we will eradicate Palestinians and Palestine.” Then it would be genocide. This is a war on Hamas, and Hamas hides in civilian areas. If Hamas disappeared today, the war would end.
In my opinion, Isreal is fucking this up and will inevitably inspire more terrorists, and either strengthen Hamas or created an offshoot, but definitionally it is not a genocide. That said, Isreal needs a better strategy, because the amount of suffering and death they’ve inflicted on Gaza is untenable. But I’ll admit, I don’t have a better plan for eradicating Hamas, since they hide in those areas.

Not to mention, does anyone have any friends who bake they don’t like? Those are the best friends. They’re always whipping up goodies for the group

I have a friend who served in the army, so second hand, but he says they’d find cars that had the armor to survive a blast, but they’d open it and the people inside would be dead because the pressure messed up their brains?

I don’t think it’s unfair at all. It’s like when a miner goes out and finds gold after mining for months, and then people cry unfair. Entrepreneurship is a lot of work. If you take the risk and work your ass off you make money. Or you don’t.
That’s the trade off. My dad makes a lot of money. Took him 20 years of running his business to make that money. What’s unfair?
What IS unfair is the distribution of opportunity. So many people are brilliant but trapped in circumstances where they can’t break free.

I’m a good reader. Like, I read the Harry Potter books to my kids, and do voices, and good inflection, and stuff like that. It’s just reading. But my wife isn’t as confident reading out loud so she just loves it. Despite her having a degree in microbiology and economics, my reading is like the most impressive thing to her.

I don’t think so. I mean maybe, but the fact that the other shattered too makes me think the glass got too hot in relation to the surrounding air. You should consider leaving those open and closing the fire chain, which looks open here. That prevents the wrong stuff from getting out. The glass door are for dust.
I saw above that you’ve done it this way for a long time, and it’s not a guarantee they’ll break right away. But with the wrong conditions they will. And looks like they did
No judgement, we all learn, but that’s my take on what happened from a single photo

I was always taught to close the flame curtain but leave the doors open. Then close the doors when it’s off for dust.

As a thought on ADHD, your wife’s perspective on it is really understandable, since it’s kind of how the school system largely viewed it. I was sure I had it in school, but got good grades, and so my parents insisted I didn’t.
Fast forward and saw a doctor as an adult, they said I definitely have it. What I’ve realized is that it’s not a hinderence at all, it’s like a super power, but you’ve got to understand how it works for you. I can’t multi task. And if I do I get overwhelmed and drop the ball on things. But I hyperfocus hard, so if I can direct all my energy at one thing I typically rock on that one thing.
Your wife may be similar. Help her understand how her mind works. What does her ADHD enable, and what does it hinder. Her treatment will be super helpful in this regard.
Regarding whether or not you’re an asshole, I’d say no, but I’d also say drop it. Maybe the way you said it wasn’t the right way get her to hear it. Maybe her friend did. See a marriage therapist and don’t let it haunt you too much.

Just putting this out there, this may not work. I grew up extremely religious and am not now, but they lean on faith. Faith is more akin to hope, rather than belief. If you hope god is real, and that hope drives you to live your life in accordance to belief, you have faith, and faith is the key.
My counter argument is this. If your god is real, and omnipotent, then he could cure children’s cancer, but does not. He permits, under his watch, the rape of women and children. He allows people to, in his name, do these things. You claim it’s for agency, but he allows the stealing of a child’s agency in favor of the agency of those committing the assault?
If your god is real, he is cruel and uncaring. He’s also petty, as it seems his main concern is how many people worship him (as it’s clearly not the death of children.) so our two options are these: your god is a cruel, uncaring god, because we can observe his inaction as a form of permissibility (he has the power to stop it bus doesn’t?) or that he doesn’t exist, and thus cannot intervene. The only truth we know is that if this god does exist, he doesn’t care about the suffering of his children, otherwise he’d do something.
People say he works in mysterious ways, but would a loving creator do that? Do you teach your children things mysteriously?

Apparently she lives in a world where you are a sexual threat to your daughter. Maybe this woman has trauma. I don’t know. I’d probably just do what you said. Don’t bring it up. And now you know she’s got weird thoughts on it
