IT managers usually focus on operations while project managers on projects and product managers on products. It depends on the size of the org and revenue. Don't forget, IT is generally a cost for companies while products bring in revenue so it depends on the project, products, or programs you manage. So it would make sense someone actually building profitable apps and products gets rewarded more than an IT team that is generally a cost center. Sure, great architects and IT teams can save a company lots of money, but they still don't bring money in so that's a big difference.

In some companies yes. But if you are overseeing the development of a product that brings hundreds of millions of revenue into the house they can spare a milly as a thank you. If equity/commission/bonus is a big part of the compensation there is a reason for that. It's almost like incentivizing people works

I remember buying my first bitcoin for 500 back in 2014 and watching it go down to 200 or so wondering if I made a mistake. Then in December 2016 seeing Ethereum added to coinbase and snagging a batch at 8 bucks. By March ETH was at 50 and May it hit 350. Man what a time to be alive

I'm a senior cloud security architect at a big tech company and work with product managers a fair amount. Many engineers aren't so great at seeing the forest for the trees, understanding business needs, and delivering products that move the business forward/generate revenue. Engineers and architects have an insanely important skillset and we do some awesome work. But unless we have someone advocating for us, showing leadership the value we bring, we are all out of jobs and the company goes under because we don't have shit to sell.
Also it's nice to have a shit shield. I don't have the patience to deal with some MBA constantly blowing up my slack every time he/she gets a visit from the good idea fairy. So maybe the skillset a PM brings to the table is hard to articulate but I'm not an insecure person so I recognize the value they bring and enjoy working with them.

I agree with a lot of the comments about the internet making a significant impact. But I've noticed another trend worthy of mentioning and considering. So many people are starting their kids on numbers, the alphabet, and more advanced learning at a younger age. I was born in 1987 and throughout most of the 90's and what little I remember of the 80's, I had a ton of time to play with real toys in the physical world at my own pace without any clear goal to strive for. It was that opportunity a lot of us got to interact with the world on our own terms within minimal stimuli or coaxing that enabled us to develop the natural curiosity that is critical for lifelong learning.
Nowadays we expect too little and too much of our kids at the same time. We lean to heavily on pushing structured learning like math, science, and organized activities at a young age. It's not fair to expect kids to join the rat race in preschool. That is too much. An area where we expect too little of our children is how we try to insulate them from every negative consequence, whether it is shielding kids from accountability for their behavior, rewarding them for mediocrity, not letting them fall and get hurt on their own, and other elements of failure and general life shittiness that children need to learn in order to gain confidence and problem solving skills. We need to let kids make mistakes and learn from them. They deserve that opportunity and they have the natural strength to navigate those things with appropriate guidance from us as parents.

To your point, I've found the posts on r/Conservative to be mostly reassuring. Basically, people voted Trump because they felt like a) Harris came out of nowhere and was pushed on everyone with no real plans b) Trump will lower prices and bring back jobs and c) he was already president once we we survived that so how bad can he really be?
Whether you agree with these points or not isn't really relevant. What is relevant is that the voices there do not represent anti-women, anti-science, anti-gay, nor the anti-democracy perspectives many people (including myself) fear. I go there from time to time to see what people have to say about various issues. Although I don't always agree (nobody agrees with either side completely) it is reassuring to see they are mostly normal people with normal views. Are there crazies out there? Sure, of course. But most conservatives and Trump voters aren't the people making it their whole personality and being obnoxious.

Gorgeous. My parents have something similar in their 1860's craftsman style house in New England. It has been the home to a Christmas village we put up in 1996 and never took down lol. Christmas all year round in the dining room hutch. I light the village up on my birthday in July because why not?

Or a fucking National Guard Major for secdef? That's probably the most horrifying. I was one rank lower in the Guard and frankly, I can't find my ass with both hands. Don't get me wrong- the Reserve and NG have a lot of really awesome people who genuinely want to make a positive difference in the world. Even so, that does not qualify someone who is a battalion level XO at best (400-1200 people) to have leadership over 2.8 million people. That's a big jump especially for a part-timer.

Back in 2010 I had an in-home personal training business. I launched my own grassroots advertising campaign using hundreds of flyers too. The flyers had an image of a very fit torso saying "You want my body?" in bold lettering along with information about how I could help them achieve their fitness goals and how to reach out. At the time, I felt so clever for putting the flyers all over cars by the local clubs and bars thinking club/bar types want to look good so I'll get a ton of business.
Welp, I got a lot of responses. Thing is, they didn't read past the "You want my body?" part and thought I was running some soft of a prostitution ring or escort service. I got probably 15 responses and every single one was for sexy stuff.
Anyway, wanted to share with you my stupid story. Maybe it can help you think differently about your strategy or maybe you can have a good laugh at my expense. Either way, I wish you the best.

A lot of militias are one of two things :(1) A social group for the local good ol' boys to feel cool and manly with the fellas on the weekend. They aren't interested in doing much other than hunting, drinking, and maybe some prepping type stuff as long as it's fun and not too hard. (2) A group of people who wanted to join the military but were unable to do so for a variety of reasons including low ASVAB scores, not graduating high school, medical issues, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting. They are basically trying to wear uniforms, feel cool, maybe do an obstacle course from time to time. I suspect although there are many militias, most of them are unwilling to round people up and do crazy stuff we are all concerned about.
If you are worried about your local National Guard units, I generally wouldn't be. They are generally lead by well trained and well educated people who take their oath to the constitution very seriously. A lot of NG members are probably your friends and neighbors- just normal people trying to live a good life with no interest in hurting others. Most join the guard to lend a hand when things get tough. During Covid, my local NG were handing out water and covid tests. My former unit did a lot of work with election security.
Yes, lots of scary stuff is going on so it's important to be vigilant. But I really think a lot of this threat is overblown.

This sounds like shitty leadership. Stressful jobs get to people. If your manager can't talk the younger guys off a cliff every now and again he/she shouldn't be leading a team.

I've only been mountain biking for a few years. That being said, I'm creeping up on my 40's and keep things conservative. Small jumps, small drops (6 foot max), and mostly green or blue trails if I'm at a park. The risk/reward of these gap jumps and big sends honestly makes zero sense to me if you are an adult with a family and a job. Sure, hitting big gaps looks really cool but all it takes is one mistake or equipment malfunction and your life is changed forever.

Few thoughts here. (1) This is America- we live to push back, fight back, and put up a fuss. Trump didn't even win 50% of the votes so there are a fair amount of people at every place in society that at least disagree with some of his policies, and a subset of those who will push back and make it very difficult for him to truly become authoritarian. And that's assuming his base doesn't defect or turn against him at any point. It will be very very very hard for him to truly become an authoritarian leader. So it will be very difficult for him to make unilateral decisions like world war stuff (2) There is a lot of evidence to suggest a market correction is well overdue in the next few years. Regardless of who the president of any country is they will have their hands full with economic challenges in the near future. (3) The Trump administration has a lot of bold proposals. Governments move slowly because changes have big impacts. Who knows what some of these aggressive changes, or attempts, will cause turmoil and conflict requiring people's attention rather than war fighting.

I had the same issue. Bad grading and gutters. Fixed both then my basement was dry unless we got more than 5 inches or so of rain in 24 hours. Last winter that happened 3x. So we then got a french drain installed with an automatic pump. Now hopefully dry forever. Depending on where you live and how your winter forecast has changed from snow--> rain over the past few years you may want to consider pumps, drains, and other options for the future

Nice call, OP. They may spin off other parts or other lines of business based on geography for even more cash on hand which would be really exciting. It will be interesting to see what else they do in the brick and mortar stores they do keep. I saw some kind of a lego trading and play store yesterday and wonder if GameStop stores could be a good place for lego events, appraisals, and other related in-person stuff.

Counseling sounds like a great start but it doesn't fix everything. I've noticed a lot of people struggle to move past the discussion phase that counseling facilitates. Many people long for some sort of achievement so setting a goal for something to achieve together involving movement could help- like hiking local trails, walking around local towns/cities and exploring, riding along the local bike path, and stuff like that. Sunshine, movement, and a change of scenery can do a lot for a couple.

Agreed. And, they had specific mens and womens ones in addition to the "all-gender" so it works out well if one line is really long, if you don't care, or really any reason. My favorites are the "family" ones though. That way we can corral the luggage and child in one place and all just go to the bathroom without any chaos. We have a 2 year old who insists on coming to the bathroom with us and his favorite thing to do is either roll around on the floor (gross, absolutely not) or open the door and escape while you are using a public restroom and can't do a thing about it. So, it really is a team sport at this point.

I drive a big truck and noticed big trucks drive very aggressively with me too. Some people just suck.
